Not a single propitious moment!

by crunkdaddytaco at Citysearch

Not a single propitious moment! To say they fell short is generous… they forgot their shoes at home. I created this account with the sole purpose of leaving a negative review. My true Mexican dining connoisseurs (one with negative remarks above) got it just right.

Hostesses? El Terrible! Specifically the Latina. They quoted a 45 minute wait… Reasonable. Even offered to take our phone number… above reasonable. Waiting two hours (honest, no exaggeration), only to have someone steal our reservation… inconceivable! Yet, through some majestic negotiating by the clever reservation thief, we were blamed!

Bar/2 hour wait- So we spent some time at the bar, waiting for the inevitable phone call not to arrive. The beer selection was poor, as they decided to focus their energies on fancy mojitos, margaritas, and any combination of spice and liquor with a bourgeoisie element, that would make any true Mexican cringe. Asking for their most exotic beer, I received a beer that the tasteless “king of beers” would trump any day. This had me hoping that the King of Beers was coming in and the Paupers of Beers (their beer list)fleeing. That, of course, led to thoughts of Communism, deep down knowing that only a tyrannical communist leader could turn this experience to a positive one. I have never felt such patriotism at a Mexican bar. Oh, also, did I mention that it took them a timed 22 minutes to bring us chips and salsa that wasn’t free… $6.

Décor- Frou-Frou esque. It was a dusty hodgepodge of what us Americans think Mexican restaurants should look like, and what the few Mexicans in the back convinced them to be true.

Seating- Once I voiced my displeasure with the hostess on the seating debacle, her being convinced we were to blame, we were sat in the middle of the walk way, having them pulled an attached two by two table from a six top.

(Im hoping my displeasure, NAY! disgust is perceptible)

Waiter- By now it’s much later in the evening. Hes overworked, and had no patience, courtesy, or any general couth left in him to deal with the general public. Didn’t refill our overpriced chips, took a significant amount of time to put in our drink order, making a flirty stop at the hostess stand beforehand, and once our food arrived, didn’t check on us, leaving us to fend for silverware. We had a couple of friends join us, only further irritating the server, which he made most obvious come time to split the check.

Food- Marginal at best! Not worth paying $14 for two tacos and rice on top of $6 basket of chips. I was not impressed with the portion size, the temperature, and most importantly, the flavoring. By this point I am starving, and the two day old slice of pizza at the 7/11 would have sufficed.

The only positive attribute this restaurant can boast, and even that came at a glimpse, was the smiling Hispanic gentleman that brought us the food.

Bullet Point Summary- I really got going there, huh?

Hostesses- Terrible. Especially the Latina. You’ll see!

Bar- dreadful

Ambiance/décor- dusty and tacky

Food- Marginal at best

Price- gotta take a second mortgage!

Terrible service, Decent food, Overpriced

by panda911 at Citysearch

I went to Dos Taquitos on Creedmoor Road for the first time. I was pretty excited, because they way I've heard people talk about it, it seemed like it should be a pretty amazing place.

I should have known customer service would be lax at best when we entered the restaurant and the hostess looked at us then continued a conversation with another girl, hugged and kissed her cheek before even speaking a word to us.

Finally we were seated. I like quirkiness as much as the next gal, but the haphazardly set up tables and the immense darkness was nothing more than annoying after the first 30 seconds. Add to that the A/C wasn't on and it was a stagnant 80 degrees inside.

It took 10 minutes for the server to even come by to say "I'll be with you in a couple of minutes." (During this 10 minute period, multiple other employees walked by us, but I suppose since we were not in their section, we were of no consequence. No team work at this restaurant, I guess.) Five minutes later, he shows back up, gets out drink orders and runs off without asking if we want to order dinner. Ten more minutes go by, and we get our beers. We still haven't ordered, but we've been ready... Nope. He scampers off again. Several more minutes go by and swings by to say, again, "Be with you in a couple of minutes."

At this point we are contemplating leaving. We are both restaurant managers and usually give most servers and restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but this was getting ridiculous. We decided that if we were at least half way finished with our beers by the time he returned, we would just get our check and leave. He got back just in the nick of time.

The food took about 15 minutes, which compared to lack of promptness we had seen so far, this was actually a pleasant surprise. Our dinners were decent, but not nearly worth the price. Fairly tasty, but no better than any other Mexican restaurant.

We usually like to hang out and drink a few more drinks (hence, more revenue for the restaurant) but the service was so poor and the atmosphere so uninviting that we just wanted to get out to go hang out somewhere else - which we did.

I will definitely not be back. Even if the food had been to die for, I still can't get past how nonchalant and unprofessional the staff is, and what poor customer service is provided.

Great Atmosphere, Not so Great Customer Service

by rojo2412 at Citysearch

I have eaten at this restaurant 2 times and I have to admit that I will not be going back. The atmosphere is amazing, especially at night - very fun, stimulating and enjoyable - BUT, I felt that the food was not worth the price.

I have eaten at many mexican restaurants and I have to say that I would have preferred a good ole' combination platter for 8.99 compared to the fish tacos I got here for $16.

Lastly, my last visit was with a small party. It took about an hour after being seated to be served our entrees and after we were done and checks were paid, we were sitting and visiting. Around 2 hours after being initially seated, we were asked to either move to the bar or leave because they needed the tables. I have NEVER been asked to leave a restaurant - whether people were still waiting to be seated or not, it is called common courtesy and good customer service.

Due to this incident, I do not plan on going back. I'll stick with my combination platters, thank you.

Dos Toquitos Centro!

by designo5 at Citysearch

Great food, fabulous atmosphere, friendly service and L O V E the Mariachi Band serenade while eating 7 moles!( I find it slightly irritating that people tend to review mostly after a bad experience. But rarely when it's great!)

This place earns it's five stars.

Over-rated

by HHuff at Citysearch

I met some girlfriends for a much needed night out. We were seated outside, and I was glad b/c it was SSSSOOOO dark, I wouldn't have wanted to be indoors. We arrived at 7:00, and it was AT LEAST 8:15 before we EVER saw our food (on a Monday night). We had to hunt down our server to order (of course he was giving us our "time" to chat he said). The food was "OK" I thought. Certainly NOT worth the price. We paid separately, and after tip for my 1 menu item and 1 sangria, I totaled at $25. Nothing to break the bank, but overpriced for what it is in my opinion. I will not return.

  • Pros: Different style/atmosphere
  • Cons: PRICE, quantity, service

If only I could give LESS than one star....

by emcook at Citysearch

*Food-mediocre at BEST (I've had better at Taco Bell) and WAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced--$50 for 2 chicken chimichangas, 2 margaritas and a beer. Wow. Really? I wanted to throw it up so I could return it and get my money back.

*Service--slow since our waitress was preoccupied with SOMETHING more important than us AND they stuck us in a corner next to a table with 2 screaming babies-NOT cool-we moved

*Alcohol-Corona is Corona, but the margaritas were lacking flavor besides tequila

*My advice--if you want authentic, delicious Mexican that won't drain your wallet, THIS ISN'T THE PLACE TO GET IT! I will NEVER go back. Ugh.

  • Cons: WAAAAAAY overrated

Not a good experience

by 5432 at Citysearch

Definitely NOT worth the 40 mins we waited to be seated (after being told when we called from the car there was no wait....we arrived 8 mins later). Then after we were seated, we waited another 45 mins for our food to arrive.....not cool when you have 3 hungry children. The waitress was pleasant but came by every 10 mins telling us that the food will be here in "just a couple of minutes..." Of course, that is always the signal words that mean your food has even been started by the chef yet. We will not be going back.

  • Pros: Cool atmosphere, good music
  • Cons: Lousy food, overpriced drinks, waited way too long

Great atmosphere, terrible food

by avanidancer at Citysearch

My husband and I just moved here from Asheville. Wanted to find a good Mexican spot. I read the good reviews and we wanted to try it out. It's very unique and has a cozy and romantic atmosphere. We loved the lighting and the train. The food, however was another story. That's why I give it 2 stars. The price was very high so I expected the food be a good amount and tasty. It was very bland and small portions. My husband got the fajitas, which just came with a few pieces of chicken, some onions and side of lettuce, guac and sour cream. No beans, no rice, nothing. The meat wasn't tasty at all. I could have made it much better at home. $14 for that, which was an outrage. I got the tostadas which were 3 small bowls (not flat tortillas) of meat and veggies. No taste either. I would consider that an appetizer, it was $12. We didn't even get to order drinks because the meals were so expensive and we were expecting average prices. Maybe we are spoiled by Asheville's great food, but the prices should be the same. Are there good Mexican restaurants in Raleigh? I hope so. I was really upset to pay that much for the amount and quality, and I was hungry when I left. I barely ate anything. It's too bad because we love the place. I don't think we'll be going back.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, decor
  • Cons: tasteless food, small portions, expensive

Amazing food and atmosphere.

by DustyLee at Citysearch

I've been going to Dos Taquitos for years now and have turned many friends onto it. The food always tastes amazing and fresh (because it is). Don't listen to the haters on here who seem to have personal issues with the place.

The decor and ambience is really cool. Very Mexi-kitch and every now and then I hear a little Cafe Tacvba on the sound system. Frida Kahlo is everywhere which is pretty amazing and artistic. The whole decor is very artistic and inviting.

The only issue I have with Dos Taquitos is that they claim they are authentic Mexican cuisine. I think they would be better off saying they serve Latin cuisine because a lot of the dishes are South American as well. Then maybe some people would stop whining about how "it's not REAL mexican" or "psssst, the owners are Columbian"(which I find to be irrelevant and mildly racist).

Personally I enjoy the fact that they offer a variety of different Latin cuisine. If I want authentic Mexican, I know where the taquerias are. It's a little harder to find garnachas like these. Even the sopes are different than the traditional ones I've had. People just need to open their minds a little and try different things. And Dos Taquitos needs to embrace their variety a little more.

  • Pros: uniqueness, fresh food, frida everywhere
  • Cons: misleading menus
