Excellent Business Lunch. I often go here for lunch. Business is done here and it has always been about good food and good conversations.

Not a Good Dinner. Seafood bisque was extremely fishy tasting - like old seafood in a goo, Not good. Waitress did not even notice that we did not eat it - or did not ask. Chop salad - yuk - even though I ordered a crab cake on top.

Wine was ok but glasses washed in chlorine gave wine a chlorine taste.

Bread was very tasty as always.

Food seems to have gone downhill!!!!

Wonderful dinner. We had reservations for 6. The wine selection was good and the server knowledgeable. When he didn't know about one, he pleasantly said "I'll check on that with our expert." The food was excellent. Out of 6 people, no one got anything that was the least bit disappointing.

Great food & service, smoking patrons a problem. The food is excellent and beautiful. The decor is elegant but casual. The wait staff is well trained, attentive, and really seems to know the menu for food recommendations. The price - expect $40-60/plate with drinks and full 3-4 course meal. That said - the tables are very close so it's less than romantic and they allow smoking at the bar which spreads (with the overhead fans) throughout the small restaurant. So be forewarned if you have issues with smoking patrons and smelling like smoke when you leave. At this price, there are other restaurants in town that are totally non-smoking with excellent food so it wouldn't be my first choice despite the service and food being top notch.

Wonderful food. I've been twice now, once 6 months ago and again last night. I could definitely tell the difference in the restaurant. The previous time I had the carpetbagger and while it was good it wasn't awesome. This time around I was much more impressed.

The scallop dish (on the changing part of the menu) on top of a corn-and-crab risotto was wonderfully cooked, slightly caramelized on the top and bottom and wonderfully fleshy in between. The bisque I had as an app was wonderfully creamy with crab fritters that were cooked quite well (slightly crispy on the outside). The bread pudding with caramel was outstanding as well.

The cocktails that I've had there have been well executed (last night was a sidecar with a perfectly sugared rim). The wine list doesn't knock me off my socks as much, but it's fine. They have some interesting varietals by the glass (such as the Gruner Veltliner that I had last night) as well as the more traditional varietals.

New South cuisine classics served in a sleek atmosphere.. In Short
The modernist decor feels cool, uncluttered and serene. White walls, graphite banquettes and glossy black chairs make use of texture and shape for visual interest. The New South menu offers appetizers such as the coriander crusted seared tuna served with succotash salad and barbecue vinaigrette. Entrees include shrimp and grits with andouille sausage and mushrooms over creamy stone ground grits. The Carpet-Bagger features filet mignon with parmesan fried oysters, and roasted shallot mashed potatoes.

THANK THE GOOD LORD JOHN WRIGHT IS BACK!!!!!. I heard threw the grape vine Chef John Wright was going back to Glenwood Grill after a year since his departure. I had to get reservations at once, as I had quit going to the grill since he left. The atmosphere is the same but I heard remodeling is coming soon!! A brand new menu greeted me as I sat down with some friends that were also excited the Chef was back. WHAT A MENU!!!!

The potato and sesame encrusted tuna was the best dish I have ever had in Raleigh NC. If you like tuna GET THIS. No more sushi bars for me when I want tuna, this is it! Then we went for the Lobster Fritters which were so tasty, I picked up my cell phone called my mother and slapped her mobile phone style. The fritters were crispy on the outside, and tender and moist inside with a unbelievable sauce drizzled on the plate. If you fancy something light and refreshing try the brushetta. This is a great light summer app, which is great to share or keep all to yourself. We also enjoyed the Prawn app with a corn relish, and as everything else my table fought for the last bits of this dish. If you have been to the Glenwood Grill in the past year, I understand if it was not your favorite, but try again. This old Raleigh treasure got the right Chef back and you can taste it. Chef John Wright is right on again with his flair for southern cuisine. He brings his Charleston roots to this little mid-Glenwood resturant and I can only expect the flocks of Chef John Wright fans to follow. Some old dishes are still on the menu, as I had the Carpet Bagger, but they have all been tweaked a bit. Now that Chef John Wright is back everything seems to be just a little bit better in the world. VIVA LA CHEF WRIGHT!!!!!!!

Not all that. This place is overpriced for the quality of food. The atmosphere is cramped and cold. We felt like uninvited guests - everyone in there was stiff. The tables are so close together that it's awful for a romantic dinner. You can hear every word of conversation at the next table, which is about 10 inches away. The atmosphere was boring and uninviting. There are so many better places to eat in Raleigh than Glenwood Grill. The place is probably going to go out of business.

Inspect your glasses carefully. Neither me or my date were wearing lipstick but while munching on bread, sipping water and wine, we noticed that each of our water glasses was wearing lipstick. I assume it was only a dishwasher issue but it was enough to taint what was otherwise a delicious meal. They did serve (at no additional charge) a fine bottle of Italian spring water in well washed wine glasses after the lipstick discovery.
