Great place, just be careful if you go in the late evening
by sspade at Citysearch
Found this place on the recommendation of a friend. Went during the day and couldn't believe that I'd not heard about it before. Came back that evening with a date to show her and we got mugged. It wasn't very well lit and it was already an overcast day, so we never even saw the guy coming. I think it's occasionally populated with the local homeless at night. Definitely check it out, but be careful.
- Pros: Smells great
- Cons: Can be dangerous...
A wonderfully scented getaway set behind the scenes.

In Short
Art, tranquility and a sea of roses entice visitors into this secret hideaway behind Raleigh Little Theatre. The scenery bursts with color, inspiring daydreams, photos of the kids or soaking up some sunshine. Avoid the main pathway so you can enjoy secluded spots with your sweetheart--or picnic among the flowers. A covered shelter provides a great vantage point for people-watching.

i'm a new yorker, soon to move to raleigh, and i wanted to find THE spot for a picnic on a recent visit to see my love. he expected to pick the location, but with the net these days, you can find anything, plus reviews!
well, i found this place and its one review and that sold me. we went and had THE greatest picnic! tucked behind the rose garden on the far end (we were two of only 5 people in the whole park) we layed around, dazed at the sky, the trees and flowers, and ate (what else) cooper's bbq. it was quiet, peaceful, relaxing, and romantic. and it was a saturday! i fully expected kids and families to be running around. this was heaven.
i definitely recommend this spot and all the flowers werent even in bloom bc it was early spring. cant wait for late summer.
- Pros: free roses all over, secluded, quiet
- Cons: roses are seasonal
A beautiful, relaxing, romantic hideaway

I've been to the rose garden so many times, and the gorgeous view and luscious fragrances never cease to take my breath. It's a wonderful place to relax and read a book alone, have a picnic with friends, or stroll with your sweetheart. The setup of the garden makes it ideal for small-medium outdoor weddings, especially since the flowers are already taken care of! The roses are amazing in size and color, with many varieties of every type of rose. Rose lovers should definitely check this place out!
- Pros: Free!, Quiet, Spacious
- Cons: Bad parking
