Best so food so far
by JAMNC1
I order a Lamb Madras (not on menu) with coconut added and it is fantastic. My wife like the Lamb Curry. Friendly staff and consistent food.
- Pros: Best Lamb Madras
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
The best chicken curry in Raleigh
by RSG2066
I am from India and my staple entree at Indian restaurant is Chicken Curry with breads ( Naan or Paratha or Roti) and they have the best authentic curry in Raleigh. The breads and rice are excellent. I have only tried the buffet a few times and I like the fact they are one of the few Indian buffets with samosas on the buffet. Yes it is not a great location and all of you "followers" who are concerned about how many people are in the restaurant order samosas as an appetizer and Chicken Curry with Paratha as your entree-give me excellent food over ambience any day !!
Not great

We've been here a handful of times and always experience these things: A dingy atmosphere, no other customers in the restaurant (or once one other party), and a buffet of items that have become stale from sitting around.
We may have come at bad times (week nights). Maybe the lunch buffet is much better. We were unimpressed however and will probably not return.
The restaurant has the BEST food anywhere

When my husband and I go here, we always end up doing the buffet rather than ordering off the menu because it gives us an opportunity to try different dishes. I never tried Indian food until I was an adult. I used to live in Dallas and New Orleans though, so I already loved spicy Mexican and Cajun food. I loved Indian food the first time I tried it, but after trying different Indian restaurants, we can't go any other place but here. We LOVE it! In fact, it is our favorite food anywhere. If you have never tried Indian food and you are afraid to try something new, but you're curious, start here. They have a buffet, so you can sample small amounts on your plate and decide which dishes are your favorite. Pretend you're in India while listening to the Indian music and enjoying the food. I know some people are afraid to try restaurants from other nationalities because they fear they will be the only Americans in there and there will be a language barrier. That's not the case at all here. Everyone speaks English and many American customers are there too. Try it. You'll love it too!
- Pros: Delicious food!
Food not so great
by hooknew
We went to Taj Mahal on a Saturday evening. The first sign of a bad restaurant is that it is pretty empty on a Saturday evening. The food was subpar, especially considering the price. The malai kofta was not cooked properly. The paneer pakoras were served cold and not very tasty. The dessert definitely didn't taste like it was made from scratch, it tasted like it came from a can. The rice was the best part - which says something about the rest of the food! I am Indian so I am picky about Indian food, but I must say this place was among some of the worst Indian restaurants in the area. If you want good Indian food I would suggest Azitra.
- Pros: Fast Seating, clean
- Cons: Food was terrible
Ambiance matches strip mall location and food was just okay

Ambiance matches strip mall location and food was just okay. Convenient location at Capitol and Calvary but location is tucked away next to grocery store.
- Pros: Buffett
- Cons: Ambience, emptiness
Strip Mall Location, Strip Mall Flavor
by euncapher
My friends and I do an "Ethnic Dinner Night" once a month. For Indian night, we picked Taj Mahal based upon Citysearch's rating. It's in Mini-City off of Capital and Calvary. The location is kinda crappy because it's in a strip mall. We've found other great places in strip malls, so it wasn't a big deal. They also have a buffet, which I recommend if you've never tried Indian food and would like a little bit of everything to try the flavors and find out what you like. It wasn't the greatest Indian food ever. It was actually kind of bland. For the strip mall location, it seemed to have strip mall flavor.
- Pros: Buffet allows you to sample different things, great service, friendly staff/hosts
- Cons: Average food, kinda pricy for what you get, strip mall location
Excellent

The food and service here are wonderful. The owners are personable and attentive, willing to give suggestions and seem like they really care. The food is flavorful, and if you like spicy they do that well too!
- Pros: Great food, Great service
- Cons: Far from my house!
We love it

For what it's worth, our family chooses Taj Mahal for very special family occassions. It's kid friendly, great food and great people. We can't get enough.
The buffet is well stocked, fresh food, and well seasoned.
Try the goat, lamb, or chicken with a nice red wine or a Kingfisher ... you can't go wrong.
- Pros: Great food, easy parking, fast seating
- Cons: strip mall location, a bit pricy
