When you eat at "The Grill", you are suppose to get reserved seating in rows 1 and 2. "The Grill" is a flat menu, $27.50 per person and GRATUITY AUTOMATICALLY ADDED!! Yes, for 2 people, they auto added the grat and now I know why. Our server (and the house) knew they were overbooked for the evening (it said so when I looked at their RSVP list. So, our server was extremely rushed the entire evening, my drink went dry several times and I had to ask for more, my wife asked for ice twice before I stopped her and asked her specifically to "bring me one glass of ice" very directly. The appetizer was ok, the salad was small, my salmon was excellent, my wife's Cordon Bleu Chicken was under-cooked in half of it and you could see pink. We got a free desert for the undercooked chicken. The cheesecake was great. We left in plenty of time to get our seat and were told to not to worry, we didn't have to wait in line since we ate at "The Grill" and we already had a table reserved for us in the first or second row (B5 to be exact). We sit at the bar and wait about 15 minutes so we didn't have to wait in line (HEY we had reserved seats because we were patrons at their $70/couple restaurant). So, we go up and stand in line about 5-10 mins, the place is PACKED, we get up and hand them our PRE-ARRANGED SEATING TICKET, and we are shown to our table...which is filled, the guy seating us goes back and tries another table...it too is filled, and the third time, he places us in a table in the back of the reserved seating where you would sit if you made reservations at the bar. This was ridiculous, we flat out were disappointed on so many levels. I figured it out when we were leaving that the reason that they intentionally overbooked the place is the fact that John is so good that they figure most people will leave more laughing and forget about their crappy experience before, I say Nay-Nay!!
- Pros: John was absoluetly awesome
- Cons: Auto added grat, overbooked house, undercooked chicken
The place isn't what it used to be...the comedians stink

It is true that Goodnight's is in disrepair...but that's never mattered since it's always been about the standup comedy there. Unfortunately for Goodnight's, the comedy has taken a downward turn also. Stay away from Fajita Marguerita Night on Wednesday's...it is nothing but hacks! There is nooooo local talent whatsoever! Just awful!!!!
- Pros: Only place to go to see big names on the weekends
- Cons: No talent hacks during amateur night on Wednesday.
Not what it used to be!

Following is an email comment that was sent to the owner's of Goodnight's Comedy Club:
Unfortunately, this is NOT GOOD FEEDBACK!
My wife and I, and a few friends came to your Club last night (amateur night) for dinner and the show. We have not been there for a few years, and it was not how we remembered it. The place was run down and filthy. My wife was quite concerned about sanitation and having dinner there.
Even the before entering the Club; one of the two outside entry lights was burned out (left side facing), the front windows looked as though they haven't been cleaned in months. There were cobwebs all over the interior. Discolored and bare spots in the paint (and this was just in the foyer)! Electrical boxes hanging off the walls!
And this is all before you even get downstairs... should I even mention the Men's restroom and the peeling floor paint, and apparently you cannot afford a hand towel dispenser!
Without writing an essay... the place was a DUMP !!!
Are you in financial distress? If not, you certainly will be soon if changes are not made. We were not the only people to notice the decay.
On a positive note, you would be a great candidate for Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares TV show!
BIG NOTE! Just Realized that CitySearch's 5-Star Grade System is Far From Accurate !
The Rating above is 4 out of 5 Stars ...if you divide 38 Stars into 13 Reviews...which is what they have,
that comes out to a RATING of 2.9 STARS .....
what's up with tht CitySearch ?????
- Pros: Comedy was Good
- Cons: The Place was disgustingly Filthy and in a state of disrepair
HORRIBLE, MOST HORRIBLE

Beware--make sure your beverages are what you order. Orange juice served in place of margueritas. Manager rude. Service slow because not enough staff. Owner will not call despite several emails requesting. They also serve drinks removed from one table to another. I SAW IT HAPPEN AFTER i PLACE MY FINGERS IN THE PITCHER!!!! fOOD BEST OF NIGHT AND WAS NOT WORTH THE $10.07 PAID FOR FAJITAS.
GUESS OWNER DOES NOT CARE
- Pros: Great ambience
- Cons: Rest destroyed ambience
Awesome for something different.

I went to Goodnight's about a month ago to see Chris Titus. I had so much fun. It is nice to have the option to do something different and this was it. The food was great and the show was hilarious. Just like any busy bar you might wait a little while for a drink, but that goes with the territory. I could probably get drinks a little faster if there were not so many people there, but then the atmosphere wouldn't be so energetic and fun. The seating is a little tight, but again that adds to the feel. I have been to comedy clubs in New York City and the seating is much tighter there. All around the set-up may be a little frustrating but it is part of going to a Comedy Club if I wanted space and super fast drinks I would go to a dead bar or stay home. If you want to do something new and have a blast I suggest going to Goodnight's, but be willing to go with the flow and have a great time laughing like crazy.
- Pros: Atmoshpere, Affordable, Something Fun and Different
- Cons: Parking and A Little Crowded
Not what it used to be.

Charlie Goodnights is no longer the comedy club it once was. Wednesday open mic night is still cool (free admission if you eat in the upstairs restaurant), but otherwise it's rarely worth the $17 charge. Headliners are C-List at best, drinks are overpriced and the tables are crammed so closely together that you can't move.
After Bruce Bruce
by johnmaccarthy
I went to the Bruce Bruce show and boy was it weak. Bruce Bruce rocked but there was no one at the show may be 100 people. And the wait staff didn't come order my drink until the opening act was off the stage. I will not be coming back and as for the other reviews they must have been posted by people that work at Charlie Goodnight's.
- Cons: Service, Staff, Managers
Family Fun Saturdays
by celipka
The other Saturday I took my two young children ages 6 and 8 to Goodnights for the Family Fun Saturday show with Brad Reeder. We arrived and had a great lunch that my kids loved! Hot dogs and Hamburgers, what every kid enjoys. The show was great and interactive. The kids were allowed up on stage to tell their own knock-knock jokes and also got balloon hats at the end of the show. They enjoyed the magic tricks, the voice impersonations, balloon animals and the jokes. It's a great way to spend a day with your kids and still have time to go out and enjoy the weather!
- Pros: Food, Parking, Cost
The last review writer was an idiot

I have recently moved to Raleigh from San Francisco and love good food and stand up comedy. Having gone to many comedy clubs, I have found that Goodnights is the best one that I have visited. Having been here since January, I have enjoyed the club several times for both dinner and the show and found out that a new owner and management team has taken over. I have never had a bad experience. The service was outstanding and the food was flawless. and I was most impressed with the customer service and attention to detail that was provided.
- Pros: Parking, Customer Service, Diverse Menu
Do you remove the bad ratings
by manysports
The food and service is horrible. All the postitive ratingss are atleast as old as 2002. The only recen review is 2006. I bet you remove the bad ones because many people tell me the food has gone down hill. Be fair. Goodnights needs an overhaul and the reviews will force them to do it. This will save their restuarant. Call it tough love. Do the right thing. The food cam be very embarassing on first dates as well.
- Pros: comedy, drinks, NOTHING ELSE AT ALL
- Cons: FOOD, SERVICE, FOOD
