Steer clear of this disaster
by AJB531
This place does not take reservations which is fine as many places in Raleigh do not, but they have no waiting area or bar. You wait in a 4'x8' entrance way with no seating, this went over well for 30 minutes with my 5 year old. When we did sit the wait staff was some of the worst I have ever encountered. We had a group of 6 adults and 3 children and all ordered at the same time- some sushi, some from the menu. Food was coming out sporadically and in no particular order- 1 salad, then a partial sushi order, couple more salads, cup of soup, another partial sushi order, then an appetizer. At that point I had to ask for my dinner and was told the other stuff was ordered first, which was a lie as I was the first person to order at the table, that is why it came out first. Never heard such a thing in my life- I thought dinner was served by the course not the order the waitress wrote it down. Of course at the end they didn't fail to add in their 18% mandatory gratuity.
- Cons: Customer service is horrible
Great food and atmosphere
by MiguelH
The sushi at Mizu is just outstanding. The experience of watching them making the rolls, grabbing food off the train and the service are a great combination. Although at times it feels like it might not be the best restaurant to take your kids but you see plenty of parents bringing their kids in. Its a nice restaurant if you are going on a date or just feel a little adventurous and have some time to sit for a good meal. A definite restaurant to recommend to others.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: not enough restrooms
cold service
by alicecolin
The customer service is under average. we decided not to go back again after a very bad experience. The food takes unsually longer than other japanese restaraunt we dine in. Staff there are very cold and unpleasant.
Wonderful locally owned establishment... Confused by previous reviews...
by didley75
Me and my family have eaten at this establishment since its doors opened and have never had an issue. I absolutely love how I can come in and have a great Japanese meal and still have that local owned feeling also. The rolls have been a big plus with all of our family along with the bento boxes. I usually never post on these forums but I was informed by a friend I recommended of these last few ratings. I have read them all and while I cant speak for your experience, Mine and my families have always been wonderful. This includes the way my children have been treated. I will say that on many occasions I have seen people bring food in while we were there. This I know has been an issue with the management and was even annoying to me as a customer. Just the few I have seen were from deserts from other establishments to two pyrex dishes containing hot food. I do sympathize with your issue "unhappy21" but lets not be so blinded that we feel our rights are the only ones that should be protected. You would not do that at the movies or they would tell you the same. This seems to me to be the situation must have become so bad that they had to start enforcing this rule for everyone. One big problem I have also is when we do have a complaint we want to hurt someone. What is this and why? Over food?. This is a locally owned business, aren't we supposed to support them not make sure everyone destroys them. This makes no sense especially in the case of "unhappy21" because he/she never had a problem with the food just the fact that she was embarrassed about a cheeseburger. Uhg Im sorry to rant I just don't like to see local gems get knocked out contention over a few touchy customers. I very much enjoy the place and its staff and I especially love the Oozy roll. The atmosphere is quaint but the food makes it GRAND. So I say if you want very good hibachi especially the Sea Bass or sushi where you can taste the freshness then give Mizu a try its one of those locally owned hidden gems.
- Pros: Wonderful dishes for a romantic night out / great place to relax by the sushi bar after a long day.
- Cons: None that we have experienced.
If you want to be humiliated, go to Mizu
by unhappy21
I have never written a review, but because of the awful treatment we received at Mizu, I feel it is my duty. We are very frequent customer's of Mizu. We have spent hundreds of dollars in the restaurant. We have friends that go there now because of our recommendation. Last week, we took my 5 year old to the restaurant, as we often do. We stopped and got him a cheesburger to eat, as we have done in the past. We attempted to be seated just to be told that we were not allowed to have my 5 year old eat his cheesburger in the restaurant. They expected him to eat off of the menu. Is there a kids section on the menu? No. I understand policy, but what I don't understand is the way in which the policy was enforced. After we were embarrassed by managment by the words she was using and her tone, the entire restaurant just starred. Mizu would prefer to lose good customers, along with several of my friends, rather than treat us with respect. I asked the manager "so you would rather lose good customers than allow my child to eat a cheesburger?" Her response was "yes." In this day and age, where I think we all decide very carefully where to spend our money, wouldn't you rather go somewhere that you know values you as a customer? Mizu is not this place.
I will put the word out to as many people as possible to never eat at Mizu again.
Rip Off

I eat a lot of japanese food. I ordered the sashimi deluxe which has 20 pieces of sashimi, but I asked for no salmon. Instead they gave me 2 pieces of imitation crab meat for 2 pieces of sashimi. Tuna and hamachi were decent sizes, but red snapper was very thin. The sashimi deluxe cost 30.00 and cannot fill you up. Go to Kanki, Hiyashi, Carolina Sushi & Roll, or Mura. Avoid this place.
- Pros: Parking
- Cons: stingy on sashimi.
not worth it
by AStew
We went here on a Thursday evening and it was very busy. We ordered from the hibachi grill and my husband also ordered sushi. Our waitress was not that great. She forgot my husband's salad and they brought my daughter steak when she ordered shrimp. The fried rice wasn't good. I've definitely had much better! The train with the sushi plates was cute & kept my kids occupied for awhile. We would not go here again.
- Pros: cute train
- Cons: horrible food
Awesome Tasting Food!!
by robcitrix
This is one of my favorite restaurants, hands down! I went there this week and the manager brought some sushi over to our table "on the house". Awesome. I saw another reviewer commenting on the service. This is not fast food people. If you want fast food, there is a Wendy's around the corner. Whether you get the sushi or the Mizu steak, they are all fantastic. Enjoy yourself at this fine establishment.
- Pros: Great food!
- Cons: Limited seating. Tends to get crowded.
overrated
by beenc
The hostess seemed to think people waiting for tables were invisible-- very annoying to have to wait when it isn't busy at all. Train-- not such a big deal. Looked like a lot of the dishes had been there for a long while. Tried a couple of things off it and it tasted like it too. The sushi was just ok. Two of the rolls had shrimp tempura and in both rolls the tempura was way overcooked and not very tasty. The wait staff display great disinterest and come and go so quickly it is hard to ask them anything. Rolls were small and therefore over priced. The tamago was freshly made and great. Overall this place isn't worth it-- try Hayashi down the street-- it is a cut above!
- Pros: Chef very nice!!
- Cons: sushi quality
Best Seabass Dish I've Ever Tasted!!! Diamond in the rough!
by mjdelacruz
Mizu is like a diamond in the rough, small and barely visible but with food, ambience and hospitality so good you can actually feel the chef's love of cooking. Their seabass is something that makes me crave and want to go back every chance I get. Me and my son drive 25 minutes just to eat at Mizu. I also like their appetizer called sunumono which is a seafood salad and their ice cream dessert that is rolled on a rice cake. I hope they open one in Brier Creek. This restaurant is one of a kind, the people are very jolly, entertaining and the owners very humble and low key. I am too busy to cook so I eat out a lot. Mizu is definitely one of a kind for the Triangle area.
- Pros: Great taste, wholesome food, plenty of parking, cheerful and efficient service, great value!
- Cons: Location far from Brier Creek
