Best so far in Cary
by RussellinCary
We have been here repeatedly and never had a bad meal. It is a great restaurant with, I guess, a contemporary American menu. Food is tasty and generally not overcomplicated. Wait staff are well trained. They can cook fish as well as steaks properly.
As a result, it is popular, so be prepared to wait especially on Friday nights.
Good job !
- Pros: Atmosphere, food
- Cons: Can be a wait to get a table

Great steaks. Would recommend to a friend. I love to take my co-workers here after work and we all have a great time with great food and great service.
Good for a Monday night, nothing to rave about

Food is average, service is average, bar is nice. Non smoking in bar is nice. Medicore but OK if you have no where else to go
- Pros: Good bar
- Cons: Average food
Nice flavors
by nydanv
The food was average joe type food with a spin. Lots of powerful flavors from the wood that fish or chicken is cooked on. Great beer selection. I would go again.
- Pros: Food is packed with flavors
- Cons: Gets busy after 5:30
Very Disturbing
by kenngraphic
My wife and I have dined here several times and the service is consistently slow. But our last visit Friday, July 27th at 7pm left us determined to never return and to express deep concerns about our server. When she came to our table she was very pleasant but after putting in our order that did not include drinks, appetizers she became very rude. Apparently she felt she would not receive any tip because of the size of the order. She then brought our drink in a broken glass and then ignored our request for bread. After 1/2 hour and seeing her serve other parties ahead of us I had to ask for a manager. After that she returned to table and become somewhat billigerent. We then asked for another waiter. After awhile he checked on our food and found that she had not put the order in! I just hope she was not acting this way because my wife and i are a mixed race couple... we will never return and will make sure all our friends, family and co-workers hear the details of the story.
- Pros: Food is good
- Cons: Service is consistently slow and you may be targeted based stereotyping
Great place for large groups
by mommy0703
I have eaten at Stonewood several times with a large group of people and the service has always been outstanding! Seating was prompt (although we did make a reservation ahead of time), our server was attentive, and the food we ordered was delicious and cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend coming here if you have a large group of people (remember to call ahead), for a romantic dinner/special occasion, or even if you're just craving a good steak. I also recommend getting the baked brie appetizer...it's amazing!
- Pros: Service, variety of food offered, desserts
- Cons: parking can be a problem especially on the weekends or when they are really busy

For a steak stop or special dinner-a-deux, this comfortable restaurant offers an American-style menu of traditional chops and grilled seafood.
Not Your Average Chain
by darlla
Stonewood Grill is a chain restaurant, but you would not suspect so. While the menu is no-nonsense and very consistent, the dishes are created by an executive chef. You can read about "Chef Mike" and get a few of his recipies in the restaurant's magazine called Causal Flavors, free to customers and published every season.
Stonewood is best known for its steaks and fish, grilled on their Oak grill. The grill imparts a very nice flavor, meats are spiced well and not overly so. Side dishes are not quite as glamorous, they are your basic potatoes, steamed vegetables or rice, but you have a choice and substitutes are never a problem. Quality of their steaks is outstanding, and I have never seen a steak come out of this kitchen that was not cooked exactly as the diner specified. This restaurant is not Outback, it is in another league.
If you could possibly have room to eat more, the dessert list is enticing with spins on classics like Bananas Foster and Chocolate Bread pudding.
The interior is warm and inviting in dark wood, with large booths, accented by lamps and decorative art. Not a white tablecloth kind of place, so you can come casual and be relaxed. Expect crowds on the weekend.
- Pros: value, consistency, great steak and fish, great service, casual atmosphere
- Cons: no "specials", not a ton of variety, they stick to what they know
Average steakhouse
by grantman
for the discerning steak eater, this place should be avoided. Service was average, the seafood dishes we had were mediocre and the steake was not worth the tab. Skip it and be just as happy at outback or if you want to spend a bunch try, Ruth Chris'
- Pros: none
- Cons: expensive, poor value
One of the Best
by jlawmd
I could not say enough about this restaurant. The food was EXCELLENT!! To be all honest, this was probably the best steak I have had in the last 10 years. The service, well, let me put it this way - it was our servers first day, and her service was better then any other restaurant I have been to, since I moved to NC 6 months ago. I will return many, many times. If you have not tried Stonewood yet, please take time to do so.
- Pros: Food, Drink, Service
- Cons: A bit pricey
