Problems

by usedtobeastylist at Citysearch

If you want a hack and slash hair cut, go to this place. There was a large section on my head that hadn't been cut, but I didn't discover it until I tried to style it later. Parts of the hairstyle stood up (where thinning shears were used) and other parts were flat (where the stylist--and I use that word lightly) where she apparently didn't thin as much. I fixed it, since I was a hair stylist years ago and learned that you never go back to a place that screwed it up the first time. They'll just screw it up again.

It's funny that everyone at the salon looks the same and they give the same hair cuts. I waited for a friend outside of the salon one day and I was early so I was able to see five people leave the salon. They all had the same look....short and punked-out/standing straight up in the back and top...short sides...lots of thinning shear butchery. My friend loves the place 'cause she likes a punked-out hot mess on her head that she feels is eclectic. If you're over thirty, I wouldn't recommend this place.

And as a hairstylist years ago, I know a little something about hair styling. These individuals don't have their foundational cutting skills down solid. Call me old fashioned, but some things will never change with hair styling and the foundational cut is one of them. These stylists seem to be focusing on trying to do advanced cutting techniques that are popular today, but they don't have the basic skills practiced enough. And you know what happens when your foundation is weak...the hairstyle collapses.

I will never go back.

  • Pros: The "mother ship" of punked out, thinning-sheared hair
  • Cons: they miss swatches of your hair, foundational skills lacking

Great experience

by jfhughes at Citysearch

I visited Salon Blu's Brier Creek location today on a whim. I was in the area, and needed a haircut, and had heard some good things about it. I called them, and they were able to give me an appointment with Felicity immediately. Felicity was very sweet, and did a great job on my cut. She gave a wonderful, relaxing shampoo scalp massage, took her time with the cut, and then blew it out, as well as flat ironed it, which was a treat. Cost was $45, and I found that very reasonable.

I will definitely return, and would highly recommend Felicity.

  • Pros: Walk-in appointment, friendly stylist
  • Cons: none that I can think of

I adore this place!

by SLW1983 at Citysearch

I have been seeing Casey at the Falls location for almost 4 years now and as long as she is there, I will never let anyone else touch my hair! The first time I sat in her chair I had an awful, long, plain hairstyle that some clueless stylist had given me at another salon. Casey has given me exactly what I wanted each time. I usually don't do anything different and she is fine with doing exactly what I want. Stylists at Salon Blu do NOT give everyone the same cut and they don't want everyone to "look like them" - as long as you communicate exactly what you want and don't want then they are happy to give it to you and make you look amazing.

  • Pros: Friendly desk staff, and my stylist is phenomenal!

Insults don't get repeat customers

by kittlen at Citysearch

I went to Salon Blu I believe twice, and after the 2nd time, I decided I would not return. My stylist went on and on about my gray hair, as if she were offended that some of my hair was gray. I don't pay that much money to be insulted.

  • Pros: Able to follow directions
  • Cons: Constant insults, Way too pricey

Thea does AMAZING highlights

by KS1982 at Citysearch

Even though I had to drive almost 30 minutes, I took a friend's suggestion to let Thea highlight and color my hair.

She was great. She asked what I was looking for and we talked about what I could expect (given the terrible color I had gotten from my last stylist).

I love my color and the cut is great too!. If you are looking for someone with just enough 'edge' she's the one to go to!

  • Pros: Great highlights, not too expensive
  • Cons: a bit far from my home in Durham

Love Tracey At Salon Blu

by CSMobileUser2 at Citysearch

Tracey at the Brier Creek location is awesome. I attempted to put in a take home haircolor and just about destroyed my hair. When I went to her, she knew exactly how to fix my hair and gave me the best color and haircut ever. She also gave me a treatment that left my hair soft and shiny. I am very happy with the results and I will definetly be back to Salon Blu to see her. Thank you Tracey

The greatest salon in Raleigh

by superawesomefabulous at Citysearch

Salon Blu is seriously the greatest salon in Raleigh, I tried two others when I moved here and Salon Blu is the greatest. I moved here from NYC, so I was used to upscale salons, and Salon Blu is worth the money. Casey and Rachael B. have done my hair and they were amazing. They listened to all of my needs and they used their creative eye to take my hair to a new level. I have never been so pleased. My roommate also gets her hair done at the salon and she went from dark brown to platinum blonde and it looks great. They can give you a classic cut or an edgy punk rock cut. But no matter what, it's great! right on Salon Blu!

  • Pros: everything
  • Cons: nothing
