STAY CLEAR OF PEAK FITNESS!
by msudawg
This "health" club is a bunch of scam artists. They are opening many health clubs in the South Eastern US keeping them open for about 1 year and then closing them. The Knightdale facitily closed within a year and all the equipment was gone within days. They then force you to drive to another facility further from the original location. I have tried to cancel my membership but you are just fed a bunch of lies.
Buyer Beware! STAY CLEAR OF ALL PEAK FITNESS CLUBS- they make promises of things that they have no intention of keeping.
- Pros: NONE

You never give a gym your account number!
by zenobia0000
You get what you pay for. it is probably the cheapest gym around, but you get what you pay for. for 14 bucks a month, you can't expect too much. At least the one downtown has decent equipment.
I used to work in a gym, and I can tell you that you should NEVER give them your account information and do monthly withdraw. Pay up front. It's usually cheaper and they don't keep that info and they CAN'T automatically renew. Put it on your credit card if you need to, but never let them have that info, you would be suprised how unsecure it is also.
Same goes for the training service, btw.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: people
Nasty, Filthy, and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!
by edrockster
Long ago, Spa Health Clubs was a great chain of value oriented health clubs. Their prices were fair and their facilities were clean and in good condition. A few years back Capital Fitness bought out Spa Health Clubs, and the decline began; but Spa Health Clubs/Capital Fitness were still a reasonable place to work out. A year or two later, Peak fitness took over, and what was once a gradual decline became a jet powered dive off a cliff. I've never been to a nastier gym. A good number of the aerobic machines don't work. The roof leaks in at least one location. The hot tub has been broken in Chapel Hill for nearly a year--and the pool deck hasn't been cleaned, as best I can tell, since Peak Fitness took over. The sauna in the Durham club has all kinds of questionable matter on its floor, and the aerobics floor has been damaged beyond repair due to neglected roof leaks. If you're thinking about buying a gym membership, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This place is the worst!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Filthy facilities, scary clientele, broken equiment
Scam Fitness (Fuquay Varina)
by 74wolfpackfan83
Supposed to be able to cancel but as other reader said have to move away (almost out of state). We keep getting extra charges on our account and nobody knows what they are for but we are not being refunded our money. RIP-OFF! Do not join. Make sure you cancel (get it in writing) before time is up because they will scam you out of more money for the same amount of time you initially joined for. No one will return calls and customer service does not care because they are getting paid whether you are happy or not.......
Okay Gym, but...
by justin3473
This is an okay gym with 24/7 access, personal trainers, and a nearby parking lot, but it has one major weakness:
its integrity. I have discovered (through my own experiences and talking to others) that they will lie to your face about their gym's contract. I was signed up by the store manager, and he personally told me that I could cancel my account at any time. This is true, but there is a stipulation: you must move at least thirty (30) miles from your current location and fifty (50) from any Peak Fitness location. If you do not qualify under these terms, you MAY NOT cancel your account. Hope you enjoy paying a gym you now hate a minimum of $880, because you are stuck there for two (2) years. And don't forget to turn your auto-renew off, because if you do and your two (2) years roll around, you will be automatically renewed for another two (2) year agreement.
I think the worst thing about all this is that the employees are encouraged to lie to customers about the contract details (at least at one location where a friend of mine once worked).
- Pros: Nice downtown location, Nice atmosphere
- Cons: Bad management, Bad Contracts
capital fitness better known as peak scam fitness
by vanness07
This company has set it up really nice. They can screw you completely and have no responsibility for their actions. The Peak Fitness in Raleigh Downtown is basically rude maniacal and for lack of a better word uncomfortable . They dont have to make you happy because abc financial is the collecter of your money . Who also owns all the Golds , Peak , and several other fitness companies . The automatically withdraw you money and automatically renew your contract. which they tell you that it is so easy to cancell. This is a bunch of BBBSSSS. Do yourself a favor and write on every message board you can to keep these scam artist out of business. When did the usa turn into a bunch of snakes in the grass.

Worst Customer Service - Forget Peak Fitness...more like Weak Fitness
by unclebobby
So I fell for their pitch and signed up. I should have read up on Peak Fitness before I ever stepped foot in there. If I had, then I never even would have given them a chance. Basically, anything you read about them on the NC Attorney General's website is true.
Some things I found while working out there:
1.) They do not seem to care about sanitation
2.) The "trainers" are generally not qualified or at least to not have a highly regarded certification
3.) The price is not the price....pretty girls pay less than guys
4.) There were lots of "no neck" guys there...how can you legally get that big????
Do yourself a favor and don't join Peak. The YMCA or Gold's Gym would be much better options. I left Peak with 11 months left on my prepaid membership to return to Gold's Gym.
- Pros: Price
- Cons: Everything was bad - other than the price
Worst ever...Peak Fitness and Professional Fitness
by Zanny471
Professional Fitness operates out of Peak Fitness/Beyond Fitness. I bought 36 sessions and worked with a trainer for months. My trainer left?quit?fired? The remaining trainers said they were resetting schedules and would get me a new trainer. They didn't call me. When I asked at the gym they could not find my file. No one would take respondsibility to researching and getting back with me. I asked the Peak manager for help but he said it was not his problem. I then went to the main Professional Fitness office for help. The phone number I was given was invalid. I then had to do my own research to get a valid number. I called and the voicemail was either full or no return phone call. I sent emails and did not get a reponse. After paying for my 36 sessions in full they are now billing me for an auto-renewal. Only now do I get a response and when I asked for my paperwork and remaining sessions they wanted my credit card information.
As for the facility itself. I had been a member since 2003 and watched the place go downhill.

This company is not about building bodies, people, community nor good will. It is obviously about profits and profits at any cost. My experience seems not to be an isolated occurance but one that is quite widespread. Please read the other 16 reviews after you have finished this one. But my story is simple. I prepaid for my gym membership for 2 years--in full up front. After attending the gym for a while I decided to sign up for a personal trainer. My personal trainer was Todd. He and I worked out for almost a year or more and then Todd was promoted and told me he could no longer train me so I decided to not retain my gym membership as my trainer was no longer available to me. I had fulfilled my contract for personal training as well. My contract with the gym lapsed I no longer had access to the gym but for almost a year they have been billing me for a personal trainer. I spoke to the manager at what is now Peak Performance and to their corporate office and no one is able to make a decision. I have called Todd several times and he won't call me back. Peak Performance claims that the personal trainers are seperate from their club but the Personal trainers do not operate at any other clubs. Peak performance recieves monies from the trainers contracts and is able to advertise that their clubs offer these services. I have been in business for over 30 years in the Raleigh market and have never tried to charge my clients month after month for services they did not recieve much less have access to. It just seems shameful that in todays business world with a truly growing community and vibrant economy like the one here in Raleigh, NC that a business like Peak Performance and or their affiliates need to destroy their reputation by bilking funds from their clients.
- Cons: Not fair nor equitable in their business contracts nor dealings. Unable to communicate through issues.
Only join if you like throwing away money!

I joined the Spa Health Club because my mother was a lifetime member and loved it. My experience was akin to many of the other reviewers, meaning very satisfied under old management; EXTREMELY disappointed under Peak Fitness!
I signed a contract for a personal trainer and was overcharged. Their mistake. Not only would they not put the money back in my account, but they refused to pay the insufficient fund charges as a result of their mistake. The personal trainer manger at my gym (Elliott Rd) took no responsibility to remedy his error and made me to contact their head office in Raleigh, which I did. I needed to workout after talking to these people as they were the most unhelpful, unorganized, RUDE, and disrespectful people I've ever encountered in customer service. The told me a bunch of lies about how my check was in the mail and refused to give me supervisors names or job titles when I demanded answers. When I asked to meet personally with someone at their location to get this matter resolved, I was told that I would not be allowed in the building since they had personal information on site. (Hello! So does the gym location!) I was also told that my account was closed but then got a bill from their contracted accountants stating that was overdue two months!
I finally did get my money 6 months later, screamed and fought until they removed overdue bill and made them pay the NSF charge, and then I never looked back.
Needless to say I''m much healthier (mentally) as a result of leaving.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Everything else.
