view & uploadBeware of service department. I brought my 04 Solara in for an A/C relay replacement and inspection and they would not pass the inspection because of a "seeping" power steering rack. They installed an aftermarket unit and the parts charge was double the retail price of units sold virtually every other retail outlet. Making a profit is one thing but double the price is a sin. The repair bill came to over $1200. They also charge for a disposal fee for parts that they sell to scrap dealers, another hidden rip-off charge. Then they call you to try to coax you into removing reviews.
We had a great buying experience with Alan Hillman. We never felt pressured and he was great at explaining everything to us. He was friendly and easy to talk to; he was familiar with the products; he made sure to get the best trade-in price for our old car; and he made a very long process seem relaxed somehow. I have had prior experience with Leith, 12 years ago, and it was not as nice an experience buying that car. But the service department has always been excellent, minus one new technician who misdiagnosed my old car and repaired the wrong thing. I appreciate that Toyota values training and each tech does get weeks of training every year; you know that they are familiar with the latest technology as well as well-versed in your car. They also tend to go above and beyond when they can, doing little extras to make sure their customers feel special. I am glad to continue a relationship with Leith Toyota.
I purchased my Camry from Leith in October and the buying experience was nothing special. I would rate it about average. Some issues I had: they had my address incorrect on all the paperwork; they forgot to give me back my keys after diving my trade and it took them 5 days to get them back to me; the window were not very clean but streaky; they forgot to fill my tank with gas. However, I went back 3 days later to have service install a body side molding and trunk mat and they were very accommodating. So maybe service is better than the sale dept. I sincerely hope so.
I have consistently had positive experiences with Kassandra Benson at Leith. She explains things fully and will let me know if there are service items that I DO NOT need! She has been helpful and is very knowledgeable as well as being personable and friendly when working with her. I highly recommend Kassandra.
Have now purchased 2 Toyotas from Leith Toyota. Joseph Davis helped us with both purchases and I would recommend Leith and Joe highly.
I want to tell everybody on the web my
very bad experience with Leith Toyota service department. You should think twice before having your car services there. The service guy I dealt with was totally after the $. I agreed to have a diagnostic check because my car had the engine light on. So they did find the problem and gave me a call on the phone about it. The service guy described the cause of the problem. So I immediately realized it was the job another repair shop did. So I told him I wanted to call the other shop to see if they could fix the problem for free. However, the guy encouraged me to fix the problem there and it would cost me $300. I told him wait and let me get back to him. In a couple of hours later, I couldn't get back to him by phone. So I sent him an email telling him not to fix the problem. He then replied later by email and said it's fine; he's not going to fix the problem. Just when I was about to thank him in a reply email, he called and said on the phone that the technician had fixed the problem during the diagnostic test, and it would cost me $180 or so. I said we had discussed not to fix the problem over the phone earlier. He then changed his story and said I misheard the earlier conversation and that his technician was fixing the problem. I said that's not what he said. He then said I had to pay for it. I asked if he could unfix the problem. He said no. I said how he could force me to pay $180 that I didn't agree with. What happened if it were $1000. He said it's not $1000. It's only $180. I said if he's assuming I really had $180 to give him. I said if it were $20, I would have paid. Next he said I could ask the other shop to pay for it. I said why the other shop would pay for it. That's just not right. After a long exchange, I finally said I am going to report to WRAL TV and I have his email reply, he then said I would take care of it. This guy lied to my face and didn't care about his lies. He wouldn't even let me talk to his supervisor. So, if anyone is thinking of taking your car there to service, you should watch out. I definitely would not take my car there at all.
10/25/2012: So I got a call from the service guy's superior today after he said he saw the online review I made. He tried to understand what his guy did to me and wanted to offer me free maintenance services to his shop next time and to personally shake my hand. I told him I would not step into his place ever again because I don't want anybody there to hold my car hostage. Next, he would like me to reconsider taking down this negative post. I told him in today's social media world, if his company gives bad service to customers, he should expect bad reviews online. My thinking is that if he said what he said that he has over 3000 customers coming to his shop in a month, and people are happy with their service, and this was an isolated case, then my bad review should be buried on this site over time. So I don't think I should take the post down. Other customers can decide whether they want to take their car to the shop after seeing this post. I don't really want to screw the service guy up. I hope he learned his lesson, and tries not to lie his next customers.
Alan Hillman at Leith Toyota was wonderful, very caring and professional when I went to buy my new PriusC. Thanks for all of your help!
Scott Hairr made the purchasing of my new car such a great experience. Thank you Scott for your exceptional customer service.
This was a great buying experience for my wife and I. Scott Hairr was a superb salesperson. He is extremely knowledgeable with 10 years experience at Leith. The dealership at Leith is professional yet relaxed and comfortable throughout the buying process. Their follow up is the most thorough I've experienced in the Raleigh area. Scott was also prompt in giving us status updates as things progressed. Each individual on staff was most helpful. We are enjoying our new Avalon and will definitely recommend Leith Toyota/Scion to our friends.
John Desmond is the best service advisor at Leith Toyota. I would recommend that you ask for him by name when you schedule your service. He is always available, has a terrific personality and is HONEST. I keep my cars until they die (last one had close to 200,000 miles). When my last car was in rough shape, John told me it would cost more to fix it than it was worth. He said even if I brought him cash, he wouldn't take it because he wouldn't want to rip me off. The service team does not make a commission on car sales. This spoke volumes to me in order to prevent me from wasting money on a vehicle that wasn't worth it. I appreciate his honesty and trust his advice. My vehicles have always been serviced and repaired on time, with excellent quality.
