What People Are Saying About Disco Rodeo

In Short – Disco Rodeo is the freshly named version of the Ritz--a staple of Raleigh's live music scene. The club has not only been renamed, but redecorated as well. The renovated interior features a brand-new dance floor, as well as rows of disco lights. The venue plans to carry on the musical traditions long established in this big, open place--namely to offer the best local and national touring bands.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Every weekend is reserved exclusively for Latin music, with Friday nights primarily given to live bands and Saturdays for dance parties.
- Where to Sit:
- Once inside, the balcony provides the best view and gets you out of the crowd, but be sure to drink plenty of water--it gets very hot.
Worst venue I've ever been to
by csburdick at Citysearch
I wish they allowed 0 stars as a rating. I don't care if Jimi Hendrix rises from the dead to play one show and it's at the Disco Rodeo, I will never, ever come back here.
I've never been to a worse venue, and I go to a lot of concerts. The physical place was decent, but the management made it a miserable experience.
We went to go see Bassnectar with two opening acts. on 9/22. We got there at 9 and waited for over 2 hours in line to get in, missing both opening acts and part of the main act, despite being there on time. The one line they had for Will Call also served as a box office to purchase tickets. Later, they clumsily split the line up into three, sorted by last name, and people who got there an hour after us were inside long before we were.
This was a techno show, but for some reason, "No Glowsticks Allowed." Really? What's the point of that? When going in, every person got searched and patted down thoroughly, making it take even longer to get in. They also didn't allow you to go outside and smoke, so everyone gathered in the bathroom to smoke, making taking a simple pee an eye- and lung-burning experience.
This is the worst management from any venue I've ever seen and I will never be back here.
Pretty typical rock club
by Dr Smooth at Citysearch
I read a lot of the reviews here, and I have to say I was dreading going to this club for the Silversun Pickups show on June 20.
But you really have to take people's opinions with a grain of salt.
If you've never been to a hole-in-the-wall rock club, this might not be the place for you to go see a show. This ain't Solas, folks. It's a no-frills, barely more than a warehouse kind of joint.
I have to rebut a few points:
- the "corral" in the center of the club: probably not ideal for a general admission rock show; maybe lots of fun on a normal night of Tejano. But it's only about 6 inches off the floor, so it's not as big an obstruction as some reviews would have you think. In fact, we stood behind the enclosure for the whole show, and we had no trouble seeing.
- the heat: yesterday's high was in the mid to upper 90s, and the place was warm, but not uncomfortable. They had big ceiling fans that they turned on after the opening act, and I thought air moved nicely throughout.
Sound was average. Hard to judge, since Against Me is just a wall of punk rock energy, and SSP is just a wall of noise, so combine that with the metal warehouse roof, and it's amazing that I could recognize the songs. So maybe the sound is pretty good given the acoustics of the room.
Beer prices weren't terrible -- the selections sucked (Budweiser variants, Modelo, and Tecate, all in cans), but I think they were only $4. That's not terrible if you're there for a big show. I wouldn't want to pay that much for crap beer if this was a place I frequented, but for a big show, I can put up with it.
The bathrooms (at least the mens room) were ATROCIOUS. You know those horror movies set in old mental hospitals? That's what you feel like you're going to as you walk down through the service areas of the club to get to the mens room. Pale green tiles on the wall, ramshackle stalls (at least one stall wall was just a sheet of unpainted plywood, no doubt a replacement for one that was broken during a fight), the Home Depot pricetag was still affixed to the inside of the urinal, indicating a complete lack of personal pride in the place. I've seen shitty bathrooms before - some of my favorite clubs like the Cradle and the Lincoln have terrible ones, but this one takes the cake. Every second I spent in there was too long.
Other than the bathroom horror show, I felt safe at the club, both inside and out. It helps that the crowd there was pretty low key, nobody looking to start trouble as far as I could tell.
Security kept making people stop taking pictures with their phones. Really? In this day and age? I thought most venues and artists had given up that battle long ago.
Interestingly, patrons were not allowed to leave and come back in, not even for a smoke. I don't smoke, so it was no big deal, but I thought that was different.
All in all, this was a pretty typical club show for me. If you're comfortable going to shows at places like the Cradle, Local 506, the Lincoln Theatre, and the Pour House, you won't be uncomfortable at the Disco Rodeo. I think some of the big complainers here are more the Walnut Creek and RBC Center type of concertgoers.
- Pros: Big venue for mid-size rock acts
- Cons: Mens room is horrible
Nice place

I went to disco rodeo just recently and i gotta say that its a nice place the way everything is set up gives off a good vibe and gets you pumped...bad thing is they need to play more than one kind of music i was there until they closed and they only played 3 songs that were different....!aren't clubs supposed to mix the music up.?there's people of all ages there so why didn't they mix it..it makes it more interesting..but other than the music problem its a decent club and i would recommend people to check it out.!
