Save your money. Likely worst Chinese food in 20 years in Raleigh. No service, at all. Wish I'd just driven by and thrown my money out the window.
Incorrect menu. Went online and ordered from their online menu -- two items from the "Top 10 Gourmet" list -- paid more, but hey, we'll also get salad, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. When the food arrived, salad, egg rolls and crab rangoon were not there, so called the restaurant, figuring they made a mistake and would come back out with the missing food. Instead, guy on the phone insists that the items are ordered are NOT on the "Top 10 Gourmet" online menu (which I was looking right at, and were), so they're not bringing it out.
Great food; unique atmosphere. Love this place! Love eating here! Location is easy to miss tucked away in shopping center, but definitely a good date night locale. There's a really cool koi fish pond, lots of fresh flowers & the waitstaff are so friendly/helpful. They also do really good take out & they deliver! Honestly, no complaints besides the bathroom being a little sketchy, but I'm coming for the food--not to hang out in the bathroom. I would highly recommend this place for a variety of reasons--value, quality & overall atmosphere. All the regular staples with some Thai food mixed in the menu--lots of selection. Go here; you won't regret it!
First time, very disappointed. Complete failure at service!.
Went to the 8pm movie at the Colony last night and we decided to try the Peking Garden beforehand instead of the usual fare down the street at NHM.
I arrived about 15 minutes before my friend and thought I would get a table and take time to peruse the menu. While I stood at the sign that said "please wait to be seated" for the next 9 minutes I could not for the life of me get the 2 waitresses that were working the rather empty dining room to even make eye contact...let alone even make a sweeping glance across their dining room. Many people seemed to use the place as a take out as lots of people arrived and stood around with me just waiting around for their already called in orders. Finally a man (the owner or manager came out?) came out and handed out bags of food. So I was finally noticed! "You don't have take out?" "No, table for 2 please."
Great I got a table now... friend still on way so experience is still salvageable, right??!?. I planned to order 2 glasses of water and a sake while waiting and still maybe time to look over the menu! No. Remember I was seated by the guy? Well he apparently doesn't wait tables, no that is left up to the 2 gals who seem to again be making sure to not make eye contact. It was if I was seated in no man's land! Finally my friend shows up, I wave friend over. Waitress finally comes by, immediately asks if I know what I want. Lessee, 5 page menu, 2 minutes to look at it for me, 45 seconds for friend. I order 2 waters, 1 Sho Chiku Bai Sake. "What?" "Sho Chiku Bai Unfiltered Sake, please" "Whaaa" "Unfiltered Sake, please" "Ohh ok". Did I get the 1 brand of unfiltered sake listed on the menu? No, I got some SUPER sweet, dessert sake....yes it was unfiltered but don't even remember what it was but I will shun that bottle if I ever see it again!
On to the menu. Big menu. Lots of choices! Too bad I am now pressed for time have to make a split second decision! My friend mentions movie time to waitress, we order. He gets General Tso Chicken, I get Chicken Thai Bangkok.
Friend appears to like his GTC, I try it, rather sweet for what it is supposed to be and the chicken is heavily breaded. My dish is advertised as "Served with mixed vegetables in a hot basil sauce". Yes there were mixed vegetables and it was a rather healthy portion and fresh vegetables, points for that! However it was neither hot nor was there even a hint of basil flavor let alone a leaf I could find! It was not bad, it just was underwhelming and saucy and mostly flavorless. If I order something from the menu that has a "spicy" designation then by god it should at the very least be the equivalent of 1 alarm chili! This was bland and could have been any other chicken dish from the menu!
Finally, we are winding down. Movie is coming soon, would have loved to try a dessert but there is just not enough time. Waitress wants to take plates away, friend asks for boxes. I finish plate while he boxes the rest of his from his "serving plate". I look up and realize that my serving plate with the other half of my food is gone, styrofoam tray still laying on table next to me flipped open and empty. C'mon man?!?
There is much better chinese/thai/vietnamese choices all over N Raleigh. This place needs to fix their service issues before worrying about their menu. I am sure it serves well as a semi-affordable take/out delivery for some people, but if this is your idea of authentic asian food or even "thoughtful" asian food, you need to get out more! I doubt I will ever be back.
A very disappointing experience. We stopped for dinner at Peking Garden after the 7pm movie at the Colony. Several tables were seated when we arrived. We ordered and found the food bland and tasteless. It was also way too expensive. We had eaten there in the past and the food was good and cheaper. Is there new management? I stepped into the mens room and found the entire place soaking wet including water dripping down the walls, puddles covering the floor and water all over the fixtures including the toilet seats. When I asked about the condition, I was told that they just washed the floors... sorry. As we sat, someone was sweeping up in the other side of the room. Every stroke of the broom clunked either against furniture or the shovel he was carrying. This all contributed to a totally aweful experience. We will never go back there again.
Best Chinese Food in Raleigh. I've lived in Raleigh for about 15 years, and this is by far the best place to get Chinese food that I know of. For one thing, it's not some greasy all-you-can-eat buffet place, but a real restaurant. So the food is well prepared, and tastes great! Prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. The staff is always pleasant, even when the place is packed which it usually is on the weekends.
found hair in food. I would not recommend this establishment to my worst enemy. After waiting for over an hour for a delivery order, I found long wavy black hair in my food. I called Peking Gardens and told them what I found in my food, the gentleman that answered the phone told me he would bring my money (32.00) back to me. After waiting for another hour and no one coming to pick up the discusting food and returning my money, I called again and was told that they were very busy and I could bring the food to them and get a refund. I nicely explained to the man that I didn't go out to get the hairy food and I didn't feel I should have to go out to bring it back and get a refund. After all isn't that the point of getting a delivery order.(DUH) So as I set here writing this review, I am still waiting for someone to pick up this food and bring back my money. I only hope other people do not go through what I have been through this eveving. Hopefully Wangs Kitchen will be getting a call from me soon, as we are starving by this point.
Terrible Take out service!. Ordered take out for the first time and it was awful! Our order was delivered and they forgot one of the dishes that we ordered and payed for. We called and an hour later they redelivered the wrong dish!!
What happened to the dim sum??.
They had the best dim sum in town..always fresh, and delicious and then suddenly it stopped and no mention of it returning. What a disappointment. Other than that, it's the only place to actually get Peking Duck which is exceptional.
BRING BACK the DIM SUM!!
BEST CHINESE TAKE OUT EVER!!!!!.
After moving back to the states from the U.K. I feared that I'd never find take out chinese to come even close to meeting my new expectations, had actually purposely avoided eating chinese after my return. At the insistance of co-worker's I had tried Wang's and a few others.... each time unimpressed.
One afternoon I came across a Peking Garden menu in an old menu folder at work and decided why not. First of all I was impressed by the variety of items on the menu, while the old favorites are offered so are a few original and unexpected dishes. My first time ordering the food was excellent, and delivered quickly.. however my appetizer was missing. I called and was reasurred that the next time I ordered that they would make up for it. Well, tonight I ordered again.. I explained what had happened before and was told no problem. I got my food, quickly and still steaming hot. Not only did I receive my free app, but I got a double order (I even checked just to make sure that I wasn't charged).
The food is excellent, among the best chinese I've ever had.... I appreciate the quick delivery and friendly service.
I HAVE noticed that the bill can really add up, however each time I've felt that I received exactly what I paid for. I also like that the take out is delivered in nice plastic sturdy containers with tight lids. No styrofoam or paper boxes that come apart and leak all over the place.
I've never gone in to eat, however after reading reviews I'm curious about these friendly fish they keep talking about..
I vote Peking Garden a 12
