Do yourself a favor and call someone else.... We called Newcomb and Company when our office air conditioner stopped working. Their technician came out to our office, claimed they fixed the unit, and then sent us a bill for over $600. The unit only cooled for a few hours and quit working almost immediately. We then called another company who came out to the office and found the air conditioner disassembled, and actually found the missing screws and some parts thrown into the woods next to the unit. The second company we called was able to fix and re-assemble the unit without incident, and the unit has worked fine since that time. Adding insult to injury, and even though we clearly explained our findings to Newcomb and Company who chose not to rectify the issue or alter the bill, they made the decision to send our unpaid invoice to a collections company who continue to call us over a year after the fact.

Huge Markup on Parts - Short Warranty - Buyer Beware.
Tried to sell me a $129 condenser motor for $624. I just ordered the motor from CDN Systems. The part incudng overnight delivery for a total of $200. If you are interested in seeing for yourself - just google part # F48K58A01 . That is the part Newcomb wants $624 for - see for yourself what a huge markup this is.
Just called to cancel my service with Newcomb. On August 21, 2007 they replaced the Condenser Motor. It was a $624 part and they tacked on a $90 fee because I live 3 miles south of Garner (Their technician however lives 5 minutes down the road from me).
Now on July 12th, 2010 the motor they installed not even three years ago is dead. I called them out again. They told me I'd have to get a new motor - Another $624+whatever labor. I took a picture of the part, then went to Google and found the EXACT replacement part (same UPC Code even) for $129 brand new with a warranty better than Newcomb's 1 Year warranty.
Tomorrow an ex-Newcomb employee and I will be installing my fan. Total Cost comparison:
Using Newcomb: $771 total (this was the total in 2007
Quick google search and use of a screwdriver: $201 and a beer.
Finally Some Moral Fiber!.
I am a single female parent and I called Newcomb for a free estimate on replacing my system. I was worried about getting taken advantage of after dealing with other businesses. My salesman was very professional and honest about what did and did not need to be done, guiding me through every step of the process. I was so impressed by his honest demeanor that I had recommended him to another single friend before I scheduled my installation. She was equally impressed and hired him for her installation. I wish we could find honorable salesman like Michael in every line of business! I was equally impressed by the men who installed the unit. They were very pleasant and cleaned up the area so well afterwards you could hardly tell they were there.
Thank you for having such honorable people on your staff! It's nice to come across a company with some moral fiber these days!
The Best HVAC Contractor I know. I wanted to express my appreciation for your efforts on both our recent condensing unit replacement and the previous new furnace and ductwork for the addition to our house. The combination of expert professional guidance and willingness to be flexible allowed us to match our budget and schedule with our desired scope of work. The results were excellent on each occasion. The personal attention made a huge difference. We really appreciated our salesman working and communicating with us even while out of town to get us back on line quickly in our most recent project. I have long known Newcomb and Company to be an expert team player in the design and installation of commercial HVAC projects but prior to working with you I had no idea that the company provided the same high quality of design and installation for their residential customers.
Did me wrong.
I had Newcomb and Company come out to my house to diagnose my problem of my AC running, but not cooling. They went out back to look at my unit and immediately told me that some part on it was no longer the industry standard and that if it turned out to be the part that was faulty, they would not be able to replace that part and would instead have to replace the whole unit (it's only 5 years old). But not to worry they said, the government is offering tax credits for the purchase of new HVAC systems! So right off the bat they are trying to put in my head the idea of a whole new system before they even diagnose the problem.
They said there was 0 refrigerant in the system, which may or may not have been true... anyway they added some in order to do a leak check, but they claim they did not find the leak. So the options they offered me were to try a chemical stop-leak for $480, or do a fancy diagnostic for $600 to find the leak (which is still just a diagnostic), or a totally new unit.
Instead of doing any of these things, I called a different company. They came out and the first thing they noticed is that "somebody" had incorrectly replaced the outdoor service control switch, so that the unit would not have even come on the next time I had tried to run it. Interesting. Further interesting is that the second company immediately found that the service valves were leaking. They sealed the caps for a nice cheap price.
So- you do the math. Dishonest? Incompetent? Either way I'm out the $95 service fee.
