In Short – Known more for its live music and beer specials than its sandwich menu, this Hillsborough Street hotspot is a longtime favorite of NC State students and local music fans. By day, lunchtime crowds in search of Italian subs swing by to eat and socialize on the patio, but by night, the live concerts transform the space into a loud, lively hangout. Sadlack's shows are typically free and open to all ages, securing its reputation for being undergrad-friendly.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Even though there's rarely a cover charge to see a show, guests are encouraged to tip the bands.
On The Menu:
Sadlack's has a good selection of vegetarian subs.
Where to Sit:
With its outdoor patio and laid-back atmosphere, this eatery is perfectly dog-friendly during the day.

Food is pretty good.

I ate lunch there recently, and the Philly steak sandwich is pretty go. The price is okay too.

good food, good drinks. Interesting people. I'll be back to watch the people go by and have a brew. Not pretentious at all.

Tasty subs and AMAZING HOME-MADE POTATO CHIPS

by fgriner

Dude, this place is yummy. Great sandwiches and the best potato chips I've ever eaten. Decent beer and vegetarian selection but a little smoky inside. Two pieces of advice: one, bring cash for tip if you're using a card because they don't print a ticket with a tip line; two, order the "shut up and eat it"--it's a yummy surprise, and you're not disqualified if you're a little picky up front (I requested no mayo).

  • Pros: Great food
  • Cons: A little smoky

Great Sandwiches

by kayknowles

I have been visiting this establishment for many years and it hasn't changed. The sandwiches are FANTASTIC and there is noone in our area that can make them like Sadlack's. The staff is always friendly and attentive.

  • Pros: GREAT SANDWICHES, FRIENDLY, INEXPENSIVE
