This beautiful park features a lake, plenty of trails and a slew of rocking chairs..
In Short
One of Raleigh's most scenic parks, Lake Johnson is a favorite destination for joggers, walkers and bikers. The trails themselves can be challenging (thanks to a few steep hills), but they're shady and frequently offer gorgeous views of the park's 150-acre lake. The park's shelter is stocked with rocking chairs, making it possible to rock away an entire afternoon while watching people paddle around in rental boats.
Nice Trails. The nature trail here is a great place to walk, run, or go for a bike ride. It is very long and challenging due to numerous hills that run throughout. The best thing is that most of the trail is shaded which can be a great advantage on a hot summer day.
dog droppings. The park is very nice. It is sad that many dog owners allow their dogs to soil the the paths so everyone else has to watch where they step; disgusting!
Great Paths. I have enjoyed Lake Johnson ever since I discovered it existed a couple years ago. Most of the time there are enough people on the paths that it feels safe for those (women) who like to run or walk solo. There are an abundance of ducks that are not very shy at all! Also it is really peaceful to rent a canoe (only $4) and paddle out to the middle of the lake and take it all in.
Quiet escape. This is my favorite place to go for a long walk in Raleigh--there are plenty of trails for variety, and the hills offer a good challenge when you really want to sweat. Nice deck, great rocking chairs.
