What People Are Saying About Sammy's Tap & Grill

In Short – The game, your friends, draft beer and deliciously unhealthy food are the essential components of the experience here. A sports bar that caters to N.C. State students and anybody who enjoys the aforementioned virtues, Sammy's is something of a Mission Valley institution--even if the name sometimes changes. Outdoor seating, plus occasional live music and trivia, augment the televied happenings. Sammy's has four satellites and over 25 televisions, so if you're looking for somewhere to watch the game, look no further.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Particularly apropos come tournament time, Sammy's has portable speakers for your table so you can see, and hear, the TV.
- On The Menu:
- The menu is full of tasty bar food that goes well with the Budweiser that patrons consume by the pitcher, and there are nightly food and drink specials. The kitchen is open all day--although it may not be the best place for a quick lunch.
Warm & Welcoming - Best Place in Town
by RayJerome
I’m a born Yankee but have lived in Raleigh for many years. One of the things I miss about living up North is the neighborhood taverns – the places you can go and feel at home, comfortable, appreciated and welcomed. If that’s appealing to you, then the only place to go in Raleigh is Sammy’s Tap & Grill, because it’s all that and more.
Let’s start with the food. I’ve been going to Sammy’s since he took over and never have I had a bad meal, whether it’s a quick appetizer or salad, a pizza or burger or the best wings in town, bar none. The menu is impressive and far beyond the typical “bar food” found in so many places around town. Prices are more than reasonable, whether it’s for a rack of incredible, melt-in-your-mouth ribs or a mound of extra crispy wings with one of Sammy’s special sauces. Sammy and his crew go to great lengths to serve food that’s fresh, well prepared and appetizing. And with the variety, you will never be disappointed that you couldn’t find something that wasn’t appealing. If you’re a beer drinker, there’s plenty to choose, from the standards to the exotic, along with a full bar of mixed drinks. Like the food, you can always find something to quench your thirst.
Service is prompt, attentive and professional, whether you drop by on a lazy weekday afternoon or come by to be part of the crowd on a football game day Saturday or Sunday. Sure, the place gets crowded sometimes, but with indoor, covered deck and outdoor seating, you can usually find a place either to join the crowd and cheer on your team or have a quiet conversation with a colleague or new-found friend. It’s easy to see that Sammy’s wait staff is well trained and the whole business well managed. They look and act like they are genuinely glad you’re there.
Tucked between NC State’s main campus and Centennial, Sammy’s of course attracts a college crowd. But don’t dismiss it as a “college bar” unless you’re talking about faculty, staff, coaches and of course students, along with neighborhood families, office and blue collar workers. Sammy’s is more than just a place to go for good food, good prices and good service. It’s the place to go to be comfortable, appreciated and most of all well-taken care of.
Sammy's Tap & Grill- Simply the Best!

I have been going to Sammy's for 10 years. It is simply the best sports bar/restaurant in town. The food is incredible. Best Ribs in town! TV's at every glance and always locked into the latest sports event and not CNN or other meaningless channels not related to sports. Wolfpack fans, Sammys is Wolfpack central.
Here is to another 10 great years for Sammy's Tap & Grill.
Best Sports Bar in Town

If you haven't been to Sammy's, I highly recommend it. Good Food, Cold Beer, Great Prices...
Sammy's is by far my favorite place to watch a game in Raleigh. There are TVs everywhere so I can see multiple games going on at once. I've tried a lot of other places and this is without a doubt the easiest place to watch any game I want.
The food is GREAT. I love the Ribs. The wings (and boneless wings) are cheap everyday, even on game days. I've really never had anything I didn't enjoy from the menu...and I've had quite a few different items.
Sammy's is located right near NC State's campus, but isn't overrun by college kids. The waitstaff, on the otherhand, is hot college chicks and they're always friendly and enjoyable.
Check it out!

Loved the burgers, they were handpattied and the bacon was delicious. The fried were crisp and fresh and the beer is under 3 bucks everynight. Thumbs up!
Eh Not Impressed - Not Inspired - Wasted Money

Beer specials never go below 2.50 a pint although many ale houses do, wing specials never get to .25 a wing and aren't cooked with the sauce (it was piled on afterward) , waitress was rude the entire time and impossible to deal with (whatever happened to working for tips), people are crowded and knocking you over in your chair while sitting at a table, old timers are picking fights when cheers are made for the winning team, the bar flies are regularly disgusting, restrooms are nasty, volume of surround sound flat screens is so loud its distorted, there must have been 600-1000 people crammed into the place, I have enjoyed Sammy's on and off since 2004 but do not recommend going there.
