Tips for Cloos' Coney Island

I was greeted with "If you order bacon, I will hate you forever." Scared to order bacon, I ordered a hotdog at 1:30. At 2:20 I told them I needed to switch the order to go since it took them FIFTY MINUTES TO MAKE A HOTDOG! On top of that, for my wife and I to eat it was $19.20. It wasn't even that good. I'd much rather go to Roast Grill where you get a good dog for a good price and friendly service.

Grab a clue, Cloo. I go to Cloo's because it's the only place in town that serves Detroit style Coney Dogs.

I am intensely annoyed every time I go, because the service is so slow. The only way I can explain this is because Cloo is from Detroit, and couldn't hack it serving up Coney Dogs the way they're meant to be served: FAST. It took 30 minutes to be served 5 hot dogs, and fries!!! This is totally unacceptable.

The coney dogs were good, but the loose burger was dry.

There are plenty of smart MBA students at State that can teach you a bit about process optimization. Get the food out faster, and you'll have better turn over, and higher profits, and a much better customer experience. The whole concept of cook to order you're trying to emphasize is dated, and pure lazieness.

Plus, I don't think it it'll k1ll you to update the place - it's a total dive. Go visit Athens Coney Island on 13 and Woodward next time you're back in Michigan; they'll show you how it's done.

Quite Possibly the best cheese fries in the universe!. This restaurant is a fantastic pick for people who aren't watching their calories and want a tasty indulgence. The cheese fries are phenomenal (Made with ACTUAL shredded cheese, not any of that nacho cheese sauce!) , and my boyfriend loves the chili cheese fries as well. The staff is friendly and conversational. Sometimes it's hard to find a table because the place can get pretty packed on the weekends, but otherwise this place is completely worth the trip. Though my favorite items at Cloo's involve meat (great sliders, chili dogs, etc.), there are also quite a few option for vegetarians as well.

Sense of home. I am from MI so was extremely excited to find a coney island down here. At home they are about as frequent as McDonalds. Not to my surprise the owner is also from Michigan, this being obvious with all of the Detroit memrobelia on the walls. The food was so, so. Not the worst I have had, but nothing compared to what we have back at home. I had the chicken pita and my boyfriend had the chilidogs. The chicken looked sketchy in my pita but it tasted alright. I was starving so I would have eaten about anything at that moment. My boyfriend who is a chilidog fanatic was not impressed. It wasn't very cleanly; if you are familar with Detroit, think LaFayette Coney down town. Needless to say we have never gone back. Andy's is a better bet if you are looking for a little piece of home. If anyone has the coin please open a National Coney island or Pheonix Coney. I guarantee with all of the northerns here you will earn your money back quick.

Not a good experience ...... My wife and I wanted to follow the "path less traveled" to places that serve great fries, bugers and dogs. (like Al's French Fries in So. Burlington, Vermont) 5 star.

We did our research, read the reviews, and ended up at Cloo's Coney Island Hot Dogs. What a monumental disappointment! If you love to rub elbows with other customers trying to leave via the tiny walkspace, while you shout your order to the order-taker - then read on.

I ordered two plain "sliders", two hot dogs w/mustard and relish and fries. (only one size avail). My wife order a plain hamburger and fries. NO drinks, just water. Total $15.76. Yes $15.76.

We went outside to one of the three round iron tables available and waited .... and waited ... and waited. I finally went back inside and said, "How are we doing with our order?" He said, "You're order is next". (ever here that before)?

I went back outside and fortunately the fellow at the next round iron table had a great 15lb. Westie that could do all kinds of tricks. .... So we watched the puppy ....and we waited .... ... finally a young fella brought us our fries in a pouch of aluminum foil. Honest to Gosh they were so salty my wife had to send her's back! (I ate mine cause I'm a wimp). The cap must have fallen off the salt shaker!!

At a later date we got the 2 sliders, 2 dogs and a plain burger for my wife. I'll be kind here. They were AWEFUL! ..... (and what is up with relish that is greener than MotherNature ever imagined? )

I hate to write bad reviews. I do. I was looking forward to an excellent experience at Cloo's. It didn't happen, and it cost too much to find out.

Best Hotdogs in the Triangle. Best hotdogs in the Triangle without question. I've been to every hotdog establishment in the area and nothing compares to Cloos. They cater to people from all parts of the country by offering a little of everything including Chicago Dogs, Detroit Dogs, NYStyle, etc. They also offer variety of other menu items. What I like most about their hotdogs is that they're all beef. Not those poison-infested pink dogs you get at some places. They're all natural casings which pop when you bite into them. I recommend a Detroiter and a slider for anyone trying it for the first time. The chili fries are outstanding too!! Very kid friendly. If I had one complaint, it would be about the seating and ordering..both could be improved. Just be patient when you get there. It's worth the wait!!!

Best Hot Dogs. Seriously the BEST hot dogs in town. You know it's a good dog when it pops when you bite into them. I was raised on good Hot Dogs as a Yankee and Cloo's serves the best!

What a Find!. We just tried Cloo's a few days ago after reading about it here. I was going for the Sliders- having grown up on sacks of White Castles- and was surprised by how good their little burgers were. Then I saw the Chicago style hot dogs on the menu. We lived in Chicago for 15 years and loved our hot dogs. Cloo's was like a taste of home! I almost screamed when I saw the bright, green relish only found on a true Chicago dog! The fries were fresh, hot and crisp. The lemonade was excellent as was the sweet tea. Prices here are so reasonable for the food you get. The owner was a very nice and friendly man. We spoke for a while about food and restaurants in Chicago. The other workers were very nice as well. We are definitely going back - A LOT! Gotta go try the cheesesteak! *** UPDATED INFO!!(11/08)*** You MUST try the BBQ chicken sandwich! Grilled chicken breast, grilled onions, bacon, cheddar and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce! OH MY GOD!! So good! We go as often as possible - food is consistently great! Still great service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
