Great Hotel BUT.... It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!
You'll Regret Staying Here.
Let's mention the pros first: The hotel is close to downtown and just outside of NC State - so there's definitely a convenience factor. Also, the staff I talked with was courteous, which was nice. Though I should mention they openly talked negatively of a colleague in front of me.
Now, the cons: Man, where to begin?!
First off, I call question to the cleanliness - there was hair in the shower when I went into the bathroom for the first time, and the floor felt dingy. The furniture looked and felt cheap. Next, the noise - the walls are paper thin. I'd hear people walk down the hall all night, and could hear someone in the bathroom next door several times during the night. It was like I had to suffer because they ate bad pizza or something.
But then the little things: The wi-fi was awful. My phone's 3G was pulling up sites twice as fast as my computer would. When you're here for business purposes, that's just inexcusable. Also, the televisions are at least 15 years old. The quality is really poor.
Last but not least, I should mention the air. The hotel is on a two pipe system (not making this up, they tell you this when you check in). So there's no individual air settings. You turn it on, and if the air in the hotel is blowing cold, you'll get COLD until you turn it off. If you turn it on and the hotels blowing heat, you'll get warm until you turn it off. It was 71 in my room and I wanted it to 68, but nope - the heat came on. I was stuck.
All in all - just don't stay here. It's better to pay $20 more a night to stay some place you'll actually enjoy.
Wish I had.
For more than 50 years, this hotel's familiar green sign has signaled budget-friendly lodging for families and business travelers..
In Short
Since its 1952 debut in Memphis, Tenn., Holiday Inn has become one of the most recognized hotel brands in the world. Kids rule here: Children age 19 and younger stay for free when sharing a parent's room and as many as four children per family (age 12 or younger) eat for free at hotel restaurants. Other amenities include 24-hour business services, an in-room coffeemaker, iron, hair dryer, room service, a swimming pool and a fitness center.
Too Noisy-Will Not Return.
I stayed at the Brownstone Holiday Inn over four days in December of 2006 for a conference. I had many hotels to choose from and chose this one simply because this is where my conference was located. This was my first stay here. See my pros and cons below.
Pros
Good food
Nice experience getting breakfast for room service and prompt
Good television reception with large screen
Nice desk for me to work on my computer
Very spacious room
Spacious bathroom
Good cleaning service
Front desk clerks were always very polite
When I made a noise complaint at night, the front desk took care of it right away
Large tub in bathroom
Good experience with room service for breakfast each morning
Easy check-in. I was able to check in at 10:00 am instead of 3:00 pm.
Next to the YMCA
Next to a park
Main lobby area was very impressive looking
Cons
Very loud construction made it impossible to have peace during the day!
Bulldozers were digging into the street right next to my room.
Part of the street next to the hotel was closed due to construction.
Ice machine on my floor was broken
Noisy traffic going down the road outside my room
Evenings were loud with kids running around and screaming outside
Hotel is located in a busy, noisy part of town
Balcony door would not open
Several plugs in the room would not work
Parking during the day was almost impossible due to so many conferences going on
Vents rattled when I turned the heat on
Non hotel guests walking everywhere outside through hotel grounds made me feel unsafe
You can hear every sound in the hallways
Very loud and clear when someone in a nearby room turns on their water
Mattresses were very firm
Dim lighting in room
Bottom Line= This is an older hotel in one of the busiest parts of Raleigh. It is neither the best or the worst hotel you could stay at. I would not choose to stay here again because of the noise and traffic all around the hotel.
