don murry's - 20 years w/o DON, and finally out of business. Don Murry's ran a good 20 years after Don sold it, but they are finally out of business.

It will be missed.

Pawn shop now! Looks better & cleaner.

My Aunt and Uncle owned this place. They sold it to people from India.

Now, I'm not holding any animosity towards anyone from India, but adding curry to the recipie was a mistake that could only be made by a foreigner...lol.. (BBQ does not have curry).

I once tried to swallow any silly feelings I had about the place and go in and try the fare. It was a disaster. The siding was falling off of the outside! This would not have been allowed when my aunt and uncle ran this place. The food was horrible, and contained CURRY! I dont think you could make this up. They went out of business, or sold, I heard...I dont know which, but I cannot go back there anymore, it's too upsetting. They also watched me like I was going to steal something, and the family feeling was gone..but this might be because I had diffrent memories of the place...when the iced tea was free....lol.

Best place to get Poisoned if it was still open.. I cannot remember how long this restaurant has been closed but it has been several months and I cannot say I was sad to see it go.

Several of co-works and me went her for lunch and it was by far the worst experience that we had ever had. The wait staff was unfriendly and rude. The five of us all got the buffet and it was just a horrible mistake. The majority of the food was cold. It was the general consensus that even if it had been hot it would have been bland and dull.

However the fried chicken was another story, it was not cooked all the way through. One of my co-works took a bit of the chicken and immediately realized that the center was raw. When this was brought to the wait staff attention, they did not apologize or offer to compensate her in anyway. They just said let me take that and go try another piece. Needless to say that did not happen. We all just paid and left.

Great BBQ on the buffet.,. One of my favorite lunch places. Great bbq on the buffet, better than Carolina BBQ or Smithfields BBQ. Buffet also has home made chicken pastry that is very good. The best days to go is for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they served fried porkchops on the buffet. They are awesome! Service is first notch, no smoking, which I love!

A Raleigh barbecue landmark for more than 30 years.. In Short
With a sprawling multi-room building with wood-paneled walls and the feel of a Shriners hall, Don Murray's offers plenty of space and a large smoking section. Order a sandwich off the extensive menu or join the rest of the clientele (local business folk and blue-suited government workers) and fix yourself a plate at the buffet. Also on the buffet: fried chicken, boiled collards and chicken pastries (umplings).

Classic NC BBQ and more. The BBQ is tasty, though it can be greasy coming off the buffet. Make sure to spoon from the top, or order off the menu. Fried chicken is good too. Actually, my favorites here are the fried trout and the amazing chicken pastry.

Better than most. Don Murray's is pretty good, and the lines to get in will confirm that. It is authentic east-coast North Carolina barbeque, which means chopped pork with a vinegar-based seasoning....not a sauce. There's no tomato or molasses, which is exactly the way God intended. Those who think barbeque is ribs, burgers, or chicken with a thick, tomato-y, sweet sauce will be disappointed. Anyone who knows what barbeque is supposed to be will be delighted.

Time to Remodel!. The barbeque is as good as it gets, but the decor needs to be buffed up a bit. Also, doesn't leave the impression that it's the cleanest place around.
