Great Chinese, not cookiecutter.
Usually, any time asks for a recommendation for a Chinese restaurant for Raleigh, I have to add the qualfier "good for Raleigh." NeoChina and Red Lotus fall in that category.
But after finding this treasure, I can say without qualification--this was great Chinese food...in Raleigh!
We started off with the hot tea (a bargain at $2/pot), sake (another bargain at $5/bottle), and Curry Puffs, not a very traditional Chinese dish, but very tasty. The appetizer tasted and looked like four small empanadas, filled with chicken and curry. The texture was perfect and the filling flavorful.
Our main dishes included the Steamed Seafood with Tofu, which was much more interesting than it sounded--the dish was topped with a modestly spicy soy paste and was served on portable burners to keep it warm.
The other dish was the Roast Duck, Hong Kong style (hot). The duck was cooked perfectly and served in generous portions.
All in all, I feel like this was a real find!
Great food but no Dim Sum. We went here on a Sat afternoon hoping for good dim sum since the city search posting said they had it. Well we walked in right at noon and the place was empty. Apparently they haven't had dim sum in a couple years but like many of the ratings on this site it hasn't been updated. We ordered appetizers expecting the worse since you expect at least a few customers at lunch on a weekend especially when right next to an oriental grocery store. we were surpised at the good quality and originality of the food. the peanuts with little tiny fish were amazing and everything including fried dumplings were made fresh. Definetly recommend this place. It is still a bit dingy but i will definitly be going back. this was oh so close to 5 stars.
Seperated from Raleigh Chinese food norm.
I love americanized chinese food. General Tso, Sesame Chicken, and Sweet & Sour pork. While most reviews say the authentic chinese food is great, as are the dishes mentioned. Great food, high quality meat, as opposed to other Chinese restaurants in the triangle. A++, best Chinese restaruant in the triangle.
Does not allow lo mein substitution for rice, small disappointment.
great authentic chinese food. if you're tired of the typical "chinese" food and you want to try something more authentic, then definitely come here! i recommend asking for the sweet and sour fish, which isnt on the menu. excellent! also, the stirfried spinach, which was yummy, but not really worth the price. also very good is their calamari. mmm...
Authentic!. If you want REAL Chinese cuisine, try this place... BUT don't order the typical so called "Chinese" food. Try something authentic... like the steamed fish (COD/Chilean Bass), eggplant with garlic sauce, mapoor tofu (bean curd with spicy sauce), fried pork chops (it's not like the southern fried thing), etc... The food is excellent and authentic! You know the food has got to be GOOD cuz a lot of the Asian population in this area frequent this establishment.
