Best hole in wall in town. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Watkins grill. Food is fantastic and the staff is friendly and outgoing. They make you feel like they have known you for years. You must stop in and try them out. You will not be disappointed. The whole place is this OLD SOUTH decor so if your from the north, like I am, it was slightly intimidating but was easily relaxed to find that they were from the North too with ties to the deep south and confederate solider ancestry.Try it you will not be disappointed.

Do you know how I know you're fries are bigoted.... because I'm eating my delicious, old-fashined greasy spoon cheeseburger (called the "General Lee") beside a picture of Nathan Bedford Forrest. This is the old southern, "hertiage not hate", almost to the point of being concerned that the regular in the corner booth is going to stab my fancy-ass, kind of restaurant. But, be not afraid, this place has some of the best blue plate specials in Raleigh and the owners/staff are absolutely welcoming in every way.

I know you've passed this place next to that rat-trap Circus burger...what the hell, take a chance and stop. I am very glad I did. -Whitey

Great food. I tried this grill for breakfast yesterday, 2/21/09. Food is a passion of mine. I've been to many restaurants in North Carolina and this grill compares Moose Cafe in Asheville. Thank you!

good food, and after five visits, you are adopted in their family (lol). Good food, family run and a family atmosphere, try it, you'll like it!

from breakfast to veggie plate, and a full lunch, the servings are full, and the plates will be empty, the food is this good!

THE BEST HOLE IN THE WALL. my friend (misslaurap - last review posting) turned me on to this place not too long ago. I can't believe I had never gone before a couple/few months ago and i've lived here for most of my life. The first time I went I had Chicken-n-Pastries (mondays). Not only was I surprised at how quickly the food came out, but it was BANGIN too! I've had the meatloaf - yumm! (choice of 2 sauces - both EXCELLENT), chicken livers (fried to perfection! - not too try - just the right moistness.

They are quick-to-serve, friendly, CHEAP, and the food is DAYUM good! How does "smack-ya-mama-good" sound!? YUMMEEEEEE! I would definately recommend this place to ANYONE!

Real Food, Real People.. I feel like I'm in the South!. I love Watkin's Grill! I have been going there for years and years. It is a family runned restaurant that sits off of Wake Forest Rd right near Capital Blvd. There is a definite "Southern" spark to this place. With all of the memorabilia on the walls, and the polite country accents of the wonderful ladies that work there you just can't get more down home then you do at Watkin's! They have daily lunch specials that are sure to please the pickiest of diner's as well as the person who just wants ham and cheese on wheat. They are quick to serve you and are eager to please you as a customer. I can't say enough good about his place. With that said, don't expect for this to be a fine dining experience because it's not! This is a place to get great hushpuppies on Friday with Fried Fish, or squash casserole and Chicken n Dumplins on a Monday... it's not uptight or pretentious... it's just good food from good local folks! Try Watkin's!!

great breakfast. Try the hobo eggs - eggs scrambled together with sausage (or bacon). You can easily get a full breakfast w/ coffee or drink for under $5. Staff is very friendly.

Cheap Eats. A seat-yourself restaurant. Family owned and operated. Best bets are breakfast (anytime) and daily specials served with tea and two veggies.
