The Subway of takeout pizza joints embraces fresh ingredients and store-made crusts..
In Short
These bright white storefronts are accented with green and red details and photos of the chain's boyish founder. The simple menu focuses on standard pies and chicken-centric specialty pizzas--the Hawaiian BBQ, BBQ chicken, and bacon and chicken club--each topped with fresh ingredients like baby portobello mushrooms and roma tomatoes. A selection of sides includes bread sticks, cheese sticks, chicken strips and a handful of dipping sauces.
True Vegetarian Pizza.
I'm not sure if most vegetarians know this or not, but I'll put it up just in case.
Papa John's cheese does not contain animal rennet, which is a stomach enzyme used to cultivate normal cheeses. It is not vegan, but is still a better choice than most cheeses since it does not contain animal rennet. I also believe their crust and sauce is vegan. They have a FAQ on their website that clarifies this.
So, Papa John's is a good choice if you are vegetarian, not vegan since it uses a more "humane" cheese. They will also do a vegetable pizza with no cheese, which would make the pizza vegan.
Worst Papa Johns Service Ever.
The good: the pizza is still made with papa johns ingredients in a papa johns oven.
The bad: everything else. This papa johns has to be the only pizza place in history to give out coupons on their own pizza boxes and then not accept them 2 weeks later. Their excuses? The expiration date (I was ordering in August, expiration was in September -- I don't get that). Then they said they were corporate coupons (then why do you put them on your boxes?). Ridiculous. Talked to the manager, same story. Wasn't even that great of a coupon. Two weeks later, I made the same mistake of ordering pizza from this place. They had one of two pizza's totally incorrect (the expensive one) and forgot the extra garlic sauce they charged me for. They said they would refund me the pizza but not the garlic sauce. That's just bad business. I've heard of pizza guys getting stiffed -- but now the tables have turned!
Wait, that's not all. Before they suggested the refund, they said they could bring me out the correct pizza in 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I called their bluff. I hung up, called again and asked how long the delivery wait time was. 45 minutes. Interesting.
One last beef, and I only insert this because a lot of people have a pet peeve about this. They didn't cut the pizza through the crust, meaning we had to tear the slices off before we realized they weren't perforated enough for that. Luckily I have a pizza slicer at home.
