Outstanding

Garner location. My family and I just got back from dinner there on the recommendation of another couple. The restaurant is under the original ownership again, and the food is great. They have re-done the interior by ripping up all of the old carpeting, and cleaning up the decor. All of that aside, the food is back to what it was originally. Great tasting seafood that is not masked by over-breading.

I had the fried shrimp which was lightly battered and probably some of the best tasting shrimp I've had in awhile. My wife had the broiled flounder that was cooked to perfection, along with some scallops that were excellent... plump and juicy with a great sear to them. The kids got catfish that was great: perfectly battered and seasoned.

All in all, this was probably one of the best seafood dinners that we have had in quite awhile. The new ownership has brought back that great tasting menu that they were so well known for years ago!!

AMAZED

Falls of Neuse Rd. location. My wife and I decided to finally give this place a shot. We are actually pleasantly suprised. The decor is decent to good. Exactly what you would expect from a "fish house." I can honestly say the food was great. I ordered the popcorn shrimp . They were hot and fresh. I ordered the small plate and it was a struggle to finish because the portion was not that of a small. I don't really like fish but I'll be darned with my wife's grill salmon didnt look good and smelled great. She got it with a mango salsa but I would probably do without not a fan of mangos period. My plate was ten dollars and hers twelve maybe. Which I think is a great deal. I saw they have a five dollar lunch I wish I worked close by because I cant seem to under five dollars even at McDonalds. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We will most definetely come back.

Falls of Neuse CS

My wife and I were excited to use a specail coupon (you know the one, lots of leverage with a group) anyhow, We were greated by a courteous hospitable staff. Our only complaint was the food. It tasted as though it had been reheated after days of sitting out. I mean it was not pleasurable. From the looks of the other patrons I can almost be sure we were not alone in our displeasure. Our server offered to box up the heap of uneaten mushly mound of popcorn shrimp and we declined. The fried dough ball that occupied my stomach, wispered something to me in my sleepless night. It said: "Please do not subject me anymore to this unhealthy distasteful nightmare." I must comply with the stomach don't you know.

Would much rather eat at Denny's

I don't really have anything at all good to say about Captain Stanley's. My family was excited to go there as there is hardly anywhere in Raleigh to go for seafood. We went last year to the North Raleigh location for a special event/holiday, and it almost ruined the day for us. The food was edible, but just that - not good at all. I think that Long John Silvers is probably 5 times better in terms of taste and preparation. They have a very limited menu as far as actual seafood choices go (no calamari, really?) that is well overpriced for the type of food and quality. We used to live in Myrtle Beach for years so we know Calabash style seafood - this was more like Calatrash seafood. For simple fried fish/shrimp I would much prefer the Seafood restaurant at the Farmers Market - much better quality, larger portions, lower price. The service was also terrible, probably the longest we have waited in any restaurant in the Triangle while it wasn't even busy. With all the great restaurants in the area, please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

By Accident...

by Leaniemadden

We happened on this place by accident - while driving around Raleigh. Had no idea until we parked and went in -- not lavishley decorated. But the food and service was great. 45 mins after arrival place filled up. Upon leaving there was a long line outside the front entrance.

They must be doing something right. We've visited other (Fish) restaurants in Florida/California -- no complaints here!

  • Cons: Good Price - good food - Service very good as well
