A Nightmare! A horrible experience at this place. I feel those people know NOTHING about the cars. I bought a car here about a couple of months ago, soooooo many problems happened! I had go to different auto repair stores because those people couldn't fix it up at all!
Purchased 3 cars and loved the buying experience.
I've purchased 3 cars from this family owned business and rely on them to help me maintain my cars. They have gone above and beyond in helping me. I plan to purchase another car for my youngest daughter next year from Raleigh Auto. Thank you Prices!!!

We are not happy with our purchase
On July 3rd, 2010 we purchased 2001 Honda Accord LX four cylinder engine with automatic transmission. This car was purchased to replace a Honda Civic which was totaled in an accident the week before. The car was intended for my daughters to share as transportation for school and work. This car had 98,970 miles and seemed to be in good condition when we inspected and test drove it. We received verbal confirmation that the car was in excellent condition with no mechanical issues. The dealer made a point of emphasizing that the car was purchased through the Carmax auction system and emphasizing the point that Carmax wanted their dealers to be happy so they would take back any cars where a major defect was found.
The first week the car ran well, but the AC seemed to not be cooling as well. The following week we started to experience transmission issues when the car was cold. When cold the transmission would slip out of gear unexpectedly. When this happened it would act as if the car was shifted in to neutral. The engine would rev very high, then the transmission would then catch and the car would lurch forward. The transmission would also shift very hard, with the car making a loud clunking noise and lurching when moving the gear shift. Since the intended drivers were teenagers this was very worrisome and unsafe, as the car would unexpectedly slip out of gear until it warmed up. I contacted Raleigh Auto Inc and informed them of the issue. I was told this could be caused by many things and that it was most likely due to either incorrect transmission fluid or dirty transmission fluid. I took the car to Raleigh Auto Inc and they changed the transmission fluid.
The day after I picked up the car it still exhibited the same issues. Additionally the check engine light came on with the code P1751. I again contacted Raleigh Auto Inc and took the car to their shop. In addition, by this time the AC had stopped working completely.
Raleigh Auto diagnosed the car and said that it needed a shift solenoid and the AC just needed to be charged. They did this work at a cost of $200. When I picked the car up it ran better, but this was always the case once it was warmed up. This is where things went from bad to worse. The AC quit completely after 24 hours. Now in addition to slipping the transmission is also leaking fluid, which it was not doing prior to this repair work.
I contacted Raleigh Auto again. They asked I take the car the Honda dealer as the diagnostics were beyond their ability. I took the car to the Honda dealer and also to an independent transmission shop rated highly by the BBB. Both confirmed that the transmission is bad and needs to be rebuilt or replaced, the cost between $2,200 and $3,000.
Raleigh Auto Inc is not going to fix the problem unless we pay for the repairs. This is disappointing considering the assurances that were made prior to purchasing from them. We would not recommend purchasing a car or having repairs done by Raleigh Auto Inc or u
Used Car Nightmare. I thought I had found a good deal on a car to replace the honda civic we lost in an accident. They seemed like nice folks to deal with during the purchase process. Things changed once there turned out ot be a significant problem with the car. After 10 days the transmission started to slip. This has become worse to the point where the car is dangerous to drive until it warms up. I have had two independent diagnostics done. Both come back that the car needs a new transmission, cost $2,000-$3,000. Raleigh auto attempted a fix and now the problem has gone from slipping to leaking transmission fluid. I would prefer to resolve this positively and have tried but we cannot come to an agreement. I would not recommend purchasing a car or having service done by Raleigh Auto.
Great Auto Shop!. This business is locally owned (Raleigh, NC) and they are wonderful to deal with. I recently had problems with my 1993 Mercedes 190e (2.6) and they did a fairly complicated job for me at a VERY fair price. Lloyd Price Jr. does much of the work and he is an extremely intelligent and trustworthy mechanic. He is also a drag race enthusiast and he restores and upgrades some pretty hot classic muscle cars. He also works on Mercedes and other foreign cars. If you've got a European, American or Japanese car and you want to start a relationship with a mechanic who cares... contact these folks. You'll be glad you did:)
