response to the review left by shannont1922069750. We were surprised and confused by this review. An email to us from the bride is posted below our response, and it reflects a much different tone than is reflected by the review, calling into question the credibility of the review. We have been honored to participate in nearly 100 weddings so far in 2012, and as you can see, have not received this type of public feedback from anyone else. Please see below.
Thank you for all of your help. The cake looked amazing! The detailing was perfect. I would like to note, we had a filling for each later, but instead received buttercream only, instead of the fillings. The cake flavors were delightful, but definitely would have tasted better with the fillings, hence us choosing them. Quite disappointing, as we had picked out a pairing filling to maximize the flavor of the cake. I recall them being written during our meeting, so this must have been a failure on execution. Thank you again for the beautiful cake!
I purchased my wedding cake from Edible Art. They talked a good game; however, on the day of my wedding the cake flavors were wrong, and the cake had no fillings, the decorations were descent. Hardly any of the cake was eaten, due to the lack of fillings, and the cake layers being the wrong flavors. We now have an entire cake sitting in my freezer. The worst part was I had told all of our guests how excited I was about the cake and all of the details we had picked our with specific fillings for each flavor. They even called me on the day of the wedding because they lost my cake topper. All of the details of the cake are written on one sheet of paper. One sheet of paper that is very simple and easy to read and is dummy proof, a sheet of paper that wasn't followed at all correctly. How hard is it to follow directions on one sheet of paper? Apparently, for Edible Art, that is impossible. We later heard from a co-worker, his girlfriend used to work there and said it was the most unorganized place she had ever worked and they consistently book more cakes than they can handle. Very disappointed. I read the reviews before I booked my cake and I only wish I would have listened to the bad ones. Please ladies, carefully consider choosing Edible Art for your wedding day. I cannot change my fate...but you can!
Awesome Cake!. I have used Edible Art for 2-3 cakes per year for almost 6 years, and I have always had a positive experience. The staff at Edible Art, especially Sandra, has worked with me on both size and design. I usually email my invitation, and they always come up with a great design. The cake is always delicious, and we always get rave reviews. Ask for the buttercream icing!!!! Yummy!
The Best...Period. Edible Art recently prepared two cakes for my daughter's first birthday party--a larger cake for guests and an individual cake for her. The cakes were beautiful and well worth every penny. The taste was unforgettable. I've had cakes from Whole Foods and other higher end bakeries, and Edible Art definitely takes the cake. No comparison.
Beautiful Work. Lovely cake for my sister's bridal shower. Everything I've ordered has been delicious and beautiful. Try the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache.
Very Impressed!. I've sampled several cake slices recently, and they were exceptionally tasty. Many icings, fillings, and layer flavors available. Almond/Amaretto/Vanilla butter cream was quite possibly the best cake I've ever had. Their artistic skills are impressive, and there is ample seating in the bright, trendy cafe. Highly recommended.
Poor Presentation & Unedible.
We ordered a cake for my daughter's high school graduation and birthday and were very disappointed. The cake came to us with the wrong colors (orange instead of pink) and the top tier of the cake had slide off.
Yes, we didn't check it before we left but assumed that a quality company would make a quality cake. We were wrong.
We called to see what could be done and the answer was 1) nothing and 2) we'll have a manager call. No manager ever called. We also emailed photos. We live 45 minutes away.
It was a disaster and we couldn't put the cake on the table ... used cupcakes instead. A day later (Sunday), since it was too late, we tasted the cake ... no taste and the middle was not cooked thoroughly.
Spent over $100 for a cake that didn't look too good either ... for that price expected fondant to be used, not just frosting.
My wife commented afterwards that she wondered if the business had been sold since the quality had gone down and she recognized none of the people.

I need to share an experience that I had today with Melinda at the Edible Arts location on Hillsborough St. in Raleigh. I called and asked to speak with the owner. Immediately, the tone of voice of the person who answered the phone changed from slightly friendly to rude and asked who's calling and what is this in reference to? I said that I was a colleague of the owner (I screwed up his name and said Brent Reynolds; its actually Bobby; sorry Bobby its been a while) and indicated that I needed to speak with him. I informed Melinda that I worked with him during the years that I was involved with the March Of Dimes annual charity events and that I had done some business with him in the past and that I wanted to bring him some more. Instead of correcting me about the previous owner's name, telling me that there was a new owner and moving on to business, Melinda proceeded to interrogate me as if I was somehow lying about knowing the owner at all, "and when was the last time you spoke with him?" "I've worked here for thirty years and there's no Brent Reynolds here; Mechille is the owner and she's on here way out to deliver an order, you'll have to call back." At the end of all this I was exhausted and just hung up.
I did'nt realize that Bobby Reynolds had sold Edible Arts, but I'm sure he would be beside himself to learn about this type of poor customer service. Sound business relationships, friendly service and excellent quality are the elements that built the name that Edible Arts used to be known for while Bobby was at the helm. Melinda could have simply corrected me about the ownership and moved on to making a sale on the two cakes that I had planned to order from them today for two clients of my catering firm. It sounds as if some of the employees of the new Edible Arts feels that they are so busy and so great that they don't need to be considerate of every customer that calls on them. Maybe they think they don't have any competitors that would be more than willing to take on the orders of a catering firm like mine. Well, hopefully all is well with Bobby Reynolds, I'd love to know what he thinks about this.
