There are NO antiques at Father & Son antiques.
I'm unsure how they can call themselves an antique store. 95% of the merchandise is not older than 1970. There are a few pieces of furniture and knick-knacks that may be from the late 50s-60s, but other than that it's your average garage sale junk. The clothing is basically stinky nylon/acrylic 70s stuff and mid-90s clothing straight from goodwill (nothing that anyone would actually want to wear). They have the gall to overcharge for this junk too! It's a very specific aesthetic here, if you're looking for some 50s/60s housewares I might recommend it. If you're looking for clothing I recommend Get Dressed (about two minutes away on North West st), but even they have gone down hill. It's such a shame, Raleigh is really lacking in great vintage.

Junky, overpriced, better stuff @ the Goodwill.
I made my second and final trip to Father & Sons today. The first time I went, back in the Spring, I thought it was pretty cool, if a bit overpriced. Today, it was junky, hard to move around, nothing in any semblance of order, there were two "mobiles" hanging up for $8. that were for sale @ Target on clearance a month ago for $.25. A deer Christmas ornament from Wal-Mart for $.97 was for sale for $3. It could be a much cooler place with some degree of order. Some of the art for sale was REALLY cool, well done and appropriately priced. Some of it looks like a kindergartner did it. I also went to "Stuff" for the first time today - if you like F&S, you'll love Stuff. They don't have as much, but it is orderly and much better priced.

The hottest retro furniture store in the Carolinas rejuvenates weary shoppers..
In Short
Walk through the front door of Father & Son, and you're immediately transported to a time when men came home from a day at the office, fired up a briar pipe, donned slippers and sipped away at a dry martini. Full of modernist goodies, this store will make you burn every furniture catalog you've got stacked in the corner. Chosen with a collector's eye, each piece is furniture as craft, not pre-fab product.

excellent store, inflated prices.
While I am glad that someone in the area is supporting second-hand designed and retro furniture etc, the prices at father & son are a bit over the top, and have been getting more absurd lately. I still shop there, but i usually leave a little annoyed.
