In Short
Red-eyed gravy might be the last thing people expect to find at the urban City Market, but through the doors of Big Ed's is pure North Carolina country cooking. A bustling place that is half eatery, half vestige to the old South, this breakfast haven is no place for small appetites. Try the pancakes and be sure not to miss the scratch-made biscuits. For those not in the mood for breakfast, some lunch fare is available.

I've had fried oysters at numerous seafood places and was a bit skeptical at 1st. I typically think of Big Eds as just country cooking but I have to say these were the absolute best oysters I've had anywhere! They were lightly breaded and very light all around. they were recommended by one of the most courteous employees ever and he didn't steer me wrong! Keep up the good work Big Eds..I will be back!

Southern cooking at its finest! My first trip was an adventure - not just because of the food, but to soak in the culture! The food is good (not necessarily good FOR you!) and the service is good. My favorite is to come on a Saturday morning with the kids - sausage is awesome!

The seating is tight, but you don't mind because it means you can get a seat quicker. The food is just down-home. The wait staff is friendly and responsive even in the tight spaces. The Saturday morning we were there, there was a band playing out front.
