I agree with ru4real!! ( Bad Overall Quality).
Me and my girlfriend ate there for the first time last night and i was extremely displeased all around. Cleanliness, food quality and service were obviously not high priorties for the dinner staff of Mecca. However, i did over hear one of the servers say to another customer that there was a whole other staff at lunch, so i might be willing to try lunch there someday. I will say it will not be anytime soon, i guess i developed sort of a taste aversion to Mecca's after last nights experience.

Great place for lunch, one of the best in Raleigh!.
I love the Mecca. I have been eating there for years and it's always the same friendly staff. They have plenty of seating with a counter and booths. I have only been there for dinner once but it's a great place to go for lunch; I recommend the spaghetti.

Not sure what the last reviewer's problem was....
But this is one of the best places to eat in all of Raleigh. The burgers are right up there with Five Guys (better than Char Grill), and they have fresh vegetables. If you like REAL collard greens, this is the place for you. The staff is very helpful, and I've never had any problem with any hostile employees (or owners.) They do not take credit cards, which is a minor inconvenience, but, otherwise, it's the perfect place for a good, quiet, no-frills dining experience.

Bad Overall Quality.
After going to mecca for over 7 years I have now found the food quality has deteriated. The staff seems friendly and knowledgable. The owner seems hostel and not too concerned with making the customer happy so that they will return. I took a colleage there last week. All he wanted was a hamburger, fries & a coke. I ordered a vegi plate & tea. When his order comes he gets 10 fries??! Then when they want to charge him full price for a half class refill ??. Not to mention the place is so dirty I'm amazed it passed inspection.

Dishing out American diner classics since 1930..
In Short
Its vertical neon marquee might suggest Vegas rather than Raleigh, but don't be fooled--plenty of Southern agendas have been set at this restaurant, only a conversation away from the state Capitol. A long narrow corridor flanked by dark wooden booths and a bright-red soda fountain, the Mecca is a combination of classic diner kitsch and original art nouveau excellence. Stop in here for breakfast, a business lunch or a quick cup of coffee.
