The Black Flower never disappoints! I had the best raspberry Mojito there last night for their Mojito mondays. Tracy and Jamie were behind the bar and they were so much fun to chat with. They had a really good group of people in and out all night, which is hard to find on a Monday night.
I think I'm going to have to go back for their house band on Wednesday night. I've been told it's always a really fun show.
You really should give this place a try if you haven't already.
A fun and eclectic mix!. I always have the best time at the Black Flower, and lately i
the most unpretentious bar on the Glenwood South strip.
I've been going to this bar for about a year and a half now pretty regularly. It may be the closest thing to Cheers we have in Raleigh, complete with a cast of regular characters that add oodles of flavor to the experience.
Unlike Cheers, this place often has a DJ spinning or some live music playing. There's a dance floor that is unusually roomy for such a small & intimate bar.
There are regular mens & lady's bathrooms, but the regulars know that there is a third bathroom just past the lady's room that cuts wait times down.
Staff is always friendly and sociable. They usually have someone working the front door, but they are just checking ID's. They never seem to charge a cover, even when the local bands are playing.
One of the highlights of this place is the drink selection. The owner is a sort of Dr. Frankenstein mixologist, so there are a number of signature drinks here that you just won't find anywhere else. Some of the favorites to check out are the hot spiked cider (owner's mom makes home-made cider, which is then spiked with Tuaca). Or another one you'll see a lot of regulars drinking is the Sex Panther.
They don't serve food here, but Moe Joe's is next door. I've seen plenty of people bringing in take-out food and the staff doesn't seem to mind.
I've also seen people bringing in friendly dogs which have been welcomed.
The smoking area is small and outdoors, which can get uncomfortable when it's cold or raining. But I can't fault the bar for that; thank your state government. But they do have a small awning out there and during the winter months they have an outdoor heater going.
The crowd here is diverse and often eclectic. Such a great place to meet new people! It's thankfully devoid of rowdy frat boys.
A Horrifying experience....def won't ever forget last night!. For the first time only after knowing this place existed for 2 weeks, I went to experience what the black flower was all about. After realizing its one of those hole in the walls that you stumble into on the way to your car, only because you want just one more beer before you head home...I left just like that. The a h*ole that walks around with glasses and a hat on the calls himself the "owner" of this establishment turned this hour experience into hell. After accusing us of being on the "black list" and attempting to put his hands on a friend of mine...we spent the next 30 minutes talking to cops...trying to get something done about this. He was completely out of line and whats so odd about it is that I've obviously never met this guy before so how in the world could he of known who I was and what would make him think for one second it was ok to act that way toward us? He's a real jackass if you ask me! Should of known it was going to be a rough night after going through there "security" or door man...there real winners! Not... (the sad thing is they act like they think they are! haha) The bar itself was a little dimm..and could use a better paint job. Bartenders were cool but a hot chick instead of a bunch of guys would of made it a lot better. Won't ever go there again...there's a million better places worth my time and money, but it was definitely a night that I wont ever forget. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you...go up the street to solas or cashmere...something with a little more class...just my opinion....
Black Flower Rocks!. Good place to start off (and end up at) on your Glenwood South Night Out!...We got there last week on a Monday and did not leave as hotties kept showing up. And then there are the Bartenders! It's the only place I know where a girl can dress like a whore and be loved for it!
Like this bar but doorman is an way out of line!!!. I had a couple rounds of drinks and tipped well. When I looked at some pizza that some other people had ordered, the doorman got really shitty and kicked me out and threatened me with one of those extentable billyclub things. This was really messed up. Maybe I was drunk, but this guy was all about beating me up for no reason. He wouldn't listen and was a total psycho. The Black Flower could be a cool bar but this guy was way out of line
It's impossible to leave this place unhappy. The Black Flower puts a smile on my face. I don’t know why, it jst does. I think it must be something about the energy in that place. People are happy, happiness is infectious. I don’t know if the employees are so nice to the customers that it puts the customers in good moods, or the customers are so nice that the employees are always happy, but overall it’s just a really genuine warm and upbeat feeling at the Black flower. Warm and upbeat works for me, much more so than snobby, moody or bored energies that can easily be found at many of the nearby bars.
The Beautiful People. Being a single guy, I wasn't sure at first about a place with flowers painted on the walls, and a mostly male bartending staff that look like they work their day jobs as personal trainers. After spending some time there I realized that girls like flowers, and guys with muscles. The Black Flower always has a group of pretty girls in there. In my opinion, alcohol is alcohol, my Budweiser is going to taste the same anywhere, so why not drink it surrounded by eligible members of the opposite sex.
