Great new Menu! – Husband and I had a fabulous diner last night at Solas. This was our first visit and will not be our last. We had the mussels for an app and the sauce they were cooked in was delicious. For main course we had the salmon and the lamb. Both were we're really good. We were too full to try desert but the menu looked very good.
I would recommend going a little early for a quiet dinner because the club crowd started to come in when we were leaving around 10.
Cool place . – Always enjoy going here !
Food is great
Face at moment is the mussels or lamb ,
I prefer going mid week , less busy .
The new restaurant manager, Ryan is on top of things! – We were in for dinner, not the club scene, and had some service issues, and were incorrectly charged for some items. However, the food was superb as always, and Ryan was quick in resolving the issues we had when I contacted him. He turned our experience around, and changed my mind on whether I would dine here again or not. With his dedication, I am confident in recommending Solas again for dinner.
Embarrassed for Solas dining – New Years eve dinner started off fine... With a 7:00p reservation we were seated immediately which was much appreciated. Within 5 minutes our drink order was taken and from there it went from, frustrating, to just comical, to annoyed and then "what is it going to take to get me out of here".
When making reservations a week prior, we were looking at Angus Barn, Sullivans, among others, but wanted to be downtown so went with Solas and there $55 per person dinner. It's probably just easier to bullet point the experience:
-Took 45 minutes to get the 1st drink after ordering (this was the only drink we were able to get)
-3 different servers brought us the wrong appetizer/main course 4 different times. Each time it took over 20 minutes to get the right order. So by 9:00p we were eating our main course.
-At this point I didn't even mention I was eating my filet with a butter knife because I knew it would take ANOTHER 20 minutes to get a steak knife.
-Server bumped into our table and spilled drinks everywhere, required taking everything off and redoing the table cloth.
-Every server came out "auctioning" food off
-At 9:30p I asked for the manager to just bring us our check and desserts in a to go box. Another 20 minutes later we finally received the check and our desserts.
-We did receive 50% off for the meal, but honestly even paying $100 for this meal seemed ridiculous.
It was embarrassing to see a restaurant so out of its element to handle a new years eve dinner. Our table and the ones around us couldn't help but just laugh at how bad it had gotten, like out of a comedy movie, I mean at that point what else can you do.
Will never ever return here, worst service I have EVER received, would have done better going to Applebee's.
Two Thumbs Down to the New Menu – I dined at Solas for the first time, in May of this year, for my anniversary and it was hands down the best dinner I have had in my 10 years here in Raleigh. I left wanting more, and could not wait to visit again.
On Saturday night I returned to find that Solas had a new menu, which did not include either of the dishes that we had in May. After reading through the new menu I also noticed that the entrees are more expensive and no longer come with a choice of two side items.
Along with a higher entree price diners now have to pay $3 for a single side item or $7 for a "family size" portion of a single side item.
I remembered how delicious the food was on our first visit, so I decided to order and hope that the food would be worth the price tag. It was not. I am saddened that my second visit to what I thought was my favorite restaurant will be my last.
I will never understand a restaurant that redesigns their menu only to raise the prices. I also do not understand the point of charging extra for a single side item when I do not know a single person who would eat a steak or piece of fish alone for dinner. Just tack on $3 to an already exorbitant entree price and allow diners to choose a side, that way you don't look QUITE as greedy.
Totally disappointed! Solas went from number one on my list to not even on my list.
THIS PLACE WAS OK.. – I went to Solas last night with a dear friend(GUY) so we walk in, great hostess, but when we sat down,(in the dining room) it took us 15 minutes to get some water. Our Server was not interested in asssisting us with getting a simple straw. Then when we ordered champagne it took 20 minutes, not only that when we was ready to order it took our server 3 tries to get the order right. The food came out cold, and the dj was TERRIBLE... The champagne was really great(had me feeling great) I ordered the Seared NY Strip, very bland... It was cut up into small pieces(still dont understand that) my friend purchased the Lamb, it was 10 times better than my steak. Overall my experience would be that I would go back, defiently eat the LAMB, and drink, but that's all. I wont be trying anything else, because it all looked and sounded funny. Before I went I read the reviews, everybody has to make their own impression, but mine is that it is defiently OVERRATED.. KANKI is better than this, and cheaper!!!!
Don't waste your money. – My husband and I are (used to be) regulars here. We usually invite out a bunch of friends and get a VIP table. The table waitresses WERE always amazing. The last two times we went.....well, we won't be going back again.
The quality of the service has dropped. The crowd is rougher. The 3rd floor where all the VIP tables are used to be a little quieter (you could hold a conversation). Now it has a very loud, not very good, DJ. Don't get me wrong, I like loud music, but it's nice to have a place to retreat to (especially if we're paying a lot) where we can comfortably socialize.
The 2nd floor with the main DJ has become....well....less upscale, less pop/rock/dance and more.....bump and grind and rap type stuff.
One of the Best Fine Dining Experiences in Raleigh – I was first attracted to Solas by the really cool decor of the building, so was really tempted to get inside and see what this place was all about! I was floored by the posh, beautiful interior. Really beautiful hardwood floors, lines, use of stone, everything; especially their signature white curtains that hang between tables.
I've taken friend after friend here, and everyone's been impressed. Great for dates (or so I've been told by a dear friend!) The food is expensive, but totally worth it for the wonderful experience...AND IT'S SOOOOO GOOD!!! The fondue is worth the trip alone!
Great desserts, too! I told our waitress once that we were going to the theater afterwards, and she was so understanding and really worked with our schedule. Comfortable booths! I've only ever eaten here in the daytime for early dinners, but I'm sure it's gorgeous at night; never been up to the rooftop either.
If you want a really cool Raleigh fine dining experience, definitely give this place a try!
Parking lot across the street, and valet parking too.
Are they discriminating a little? – Went there with respectable Chinese couple and seemed if servers are ignoring our table at will, I was humiliated and wanted to hide between my legs. I hope manager will correct and hire professional servers instead of discriminating members as their staff. Food was just average for the money we spent but was one of worst experience we had in entire life.
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!! – Solas is the worst establishment I have ever dealt with! They are unprofessional. We had a party booked there for a Saturday night and they told me last minute that had to get us out in 2 hrs because they booked another party for that room the same night!! They did not care and did not think twice about it. How can have 30 people in and out for dinner in 2 hours?? I will never, never go back there again. There are so many other great restaurants in Raleigh other than Solas! I wish I could give it a zero star. That's even too much for them!
