Friendly staff.....AWFUL haircuts!!!!!! – I recently moved to the area, and was hesitant to try and find a good stylist/salon because my hair is naturally curly--few people know how to properly cut/style spiral curls.
After a recent surgery, my husband decided to surprise me with a hair cut and color appointment at this salon. I was very excited to get a new look.
My experience at John Clay, started off okay, the staff was very nice, and the girl cutting my hair seemed very knowledgeable, said all the right things-so I thought I was in good hands. The whole time I noticed how rushed she was...she was constantly watching to clock, and barely paying attention to what she was doing. I was hesitant to let her blow dry my hair straight because I am very picky on how it's done. I can get my hair stick straight with the hair dryer--I told her I prefered if she flat ironed it because it might turn out better. She said she was awesome at blow drying hair, so it would be easier.....
The hair cut I was going for was a bob, the kind that's stacked in the back, angled forward. I have had this cut before and loved it, so I thought I would try the same thing....bad idea! I have never had a more UNEVEN haircut in my life...not even when I cut my own hair in highschool!!!! Its not even a bob, its short, uneven layers, that ended up uneven in the front too!!! one side is visibly longer than the other. The same in the back, the right side is about an inch longer than the left!!!!!!! Not only that, but the whole "Im awesome at blow drying" was a big fat lie! I came outta there looking like a mushroom!
I just got it done on Friday, so I have not gotten a chance to go back and demand a refund or something....not sure what to do at this point. I feel that going back to get it fixed might only make a bad hair cut worse!
I will never go back to that place again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I know....I might make flyers warning people not to go in there though...
I love Sue at SJK! – I re-discovered Sue Wagner here after losing touch with her a few years ago. Sue is really wonderful -- very talented with the scissors, but also a great listener who really tries to understand your life and how your hair fits into it. And just a cool person overall. Salon Jon Clay is a lovely salon, too -- everyone seems friendly. You can have a glass of wine while you get your hair cut... no pressure to buy products because they don't make commissions on them. I can't recommend Sue more highly... I can say she seems very happy at SJK (which says a lot about the place)!
I am coming back! – I come into town every couple of months to visit my daughter that moved here from the west coast and I always make sure that I go in and get my hair done every time I visit. For the last year, my stylist Ashley has always done a great job working with the color and hair cut that I get back . It always comes out fantastic and makes me look great.
I love my stylist! – Salon Jon Clay is a home away from home for me. I have been going there since they opened and they understand what i need. I can walk into the salon without having any idea of what i want to do with my hair and Lisa will have a briliant idea! I walk out loving my hair each and everytime.
At salon they truely work their hardest to make sure that the customers are happy. i have gone to almost every salon in the trianglearea and Salon Jon Clay is the best!
Stylist Jon is the best! – I have been getting my hair styled at Salon Jon Clay by Jon for at least the last 10 years. I have recommended Jon to several friends who love the job he does as well. He is so professional and has been cutting hair for 25+ years and is very very good!
My Wife Came Home Crying! – My wife came home crying out after going to this place. I kid you not! Warning to all those that are wanting to check this place out!
Please Beware Of This Place! – I recently moved to town and since I don't know anyone, I decided to google a place to get my eyebrows waxed. Little did I know that was a BIG mistake. John Clay salon seemed legit. It had fairly good reviews. So I made the appointment for my eyebrows. I came into the salon with thick eyebrows and came out with barely any. Claire was the girl who did my eyebrows and she did such a sloppy job. She didn't bother to pluck the tiny hairs that were still there. It was as if she could give a damn about me. If you are considering this place, DON'T! I will NEVER EVER go back to this place even if they were the last salon on earth.
A solid choice – I'm new in town and was looking for a trustworthy place to get a haircut. Salon Jon Clay was it. I had Jon, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me great hair advice. I ended up with one of the better haircuts I've ever had. It was more expensive than I usually like at $60, but worth it for the good experience.
I would definitely recommend it to friends. – I have never been blown away when I have been to Salon Jon Clay. However - I have never been disappointed either. The haircuts are solid - and I always leave looking good. Which I guess is really all you can ask for. The price is much less than you would expect from a trendy salon like this. Also I am reviewing this salon because my stylist asked me to review it - so they can improve their services.
I like my new haircut! – I went to this salon after seeing all the great reviews. It seems almost too good to be true, but while it has the atmosphere of a MUCH pricier place--thumping music, young, fashionable staff, city setting. The other plus with a less expensive place is that the people who work here don't come off as snobby, which can happen at some of the chicer salons if you aren't lucky. The staff is friendly and talkative and happy to let you know what works well for your hair. I am hesitant to post the name of the stylist I saw, if only because it already takes a week and a half to get an appointment. (Ask for Allen.)
