Dr. Duncan. I went to Dr. Duncan for many years! I do not know why I kept going back but I was young and didnt know what else to do I thought thats how all doctors would treat me. Boy was I wrong. Thank God i went to another doctor because I have been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis a very serious autoimmune disease that affects the SI joints and Spine. How could a BACK DOCTOR not catch something like this? She was insensitive and completely out of touch with the reality of her profession. People have back pain and are not drug addicts. There are real conditions out there!!!! . I am so glad I got a second opinion or my disease would keep progressing to a point of no return. I see her in whole foods sometimes and seeing her face again makes me want to cry....she was just horrible.

THE place to go for your pain!!!. I have been a patient at Carolina Back Institute for 10 years now and I have been NOTHING but pleased! Before, I had horrible back and leg pain but after just one visit to CBI I felt like I could run a marathon! Turns out I had a more serious problem, that luckily didn't require surgery. The doctors and the PA's are so informative and, unlike other practices I've been to, actually spend the time to talk with their patients and make sure they understand what is going on. The front desk staff and the nurses are phenomenal! They are all so friendly! Back pain is a serious problem and I would HIGHLY recommend going to Carolina Back if you are serious about helping yourself. I have been late to appointments in the past and have gotten seen by either another provider or at a different time. Carolina Back Institute has helped me live my life and they can help you, too!

staff are more important than patients. It was my first appt. and because of a train and getting lost i was 12 min. late to my appt. I had all my paperwork filled out ahead of time. The receptionist said she had to check with the P.A, to see if I would have to reschedule (without even asking why I was late). Apparently the P.A. said I would have to reschedule. I had been in pain for months and finally had both the money and the day off to see someone about the pain, yet they couldn't be bothered... 12 minutes late - the P.A. probably decided to use the extra time to have breakfast or enjoy a cup of coffee. I told the receptionist instead of rescheduling I would find somewhere else where the patient is valued more - and did so. Not a great way to start a "trusted" professional relationship,

BEWARE, this could happen to you!!. I would have written a good review 60 days ago, but things have changed and you may want to understand that what happened to me, could happen to you as well. I was a patient of CBI for 13 years, it took years for them to convince me that pain meds were the only way to maintain any quality of life. Only 60 days ago, when I called in for my meds refill, I was informed that I was no longer a patient at CBI. I understand that they were frustrated with my insurance co, but to drop a patient with 2 days of pain meds with no way to get a refill is unacceptable. I was not dropped due to anything I did, it was strictly due to lack of income for CBI.

When I sat across from Dr Duncan at my last appointment, she never indicated that there was an issue. No notice, no recourse, just a kiss off.

I went through withdraw alone without any medical assistance. I will never take pain medications again, nor will I ever rely on a doctor again as I did Dr Duncan. If any of you are relying on medications through CBI.... just know that this could happen to you.

NO, I never abused my meds. I only missed 1 appointment, cancel but rescheduled a few appointments, did whatever I was instructed by Dr Duncan. Freely took drug screening every time requested. So if that is what you are thinking you are dead wrong.....

Thank God, I now have a wonderful caring physician that is willing to do whatever it takes to help me without pain medications. If any of you need a wonderful caring physician, email me at ncminpinrescue at yahoo dot com.

It is actions such as those by Dr Duncan that can make a responsible person turn to illegal drugs. I was lucky to have family support through this most horrible period in my life.... not everyone is that lucky.

BTW... those of you on pain medications with CBI... IF this happens to you, please file a complaint at NC medical board. And understand that there are not many physicians out there that are going to pick up where CBI left off and write you a prescription. You will have to start over and probably go through withdraw as I did, so be prepared.... you have been warned. You don't have to do anything wrong, you just have to be a victim between your insurance and your doctor.

As a side note...... I would like to thank Kathy Odem and JoAnn for all the kindness they had shown me in all the years there.

Super Help with Migraine Pain. Wow, this practice is amazing. I had suffered for 10 years with Migraines and have taken maintenance medicines to control the onset; however, I continued to suffer with debilitating Migraines. These would come on out of nowhere & I would have to retreat to a dark room & lie down in agony. I heard wonderful things about this practice so one day when I had a migraine I called in and was seen by the afternoon by Dr. Gwinn. He could not have been nicer or more compassionate with me. It did not take one long to see he was a thorough Physician who was confident in the treatment options he presented. We decided together that Botox injections for my migraine pain was the right course of therapy.

That was 2 years ago & I have not suffered with one migraine since. The staff was friendly, welcoming & a nurse that made the whold process easy. In addition, the practice was really clean. Thank you Carolina Back Institute for changing my life.
