Tips for Romano's Macaroni Grill

January 15, 2013

I've been eating here for years and I love the food. BUT the last time I was there the waitress was so rude I'm debating on never going back. It was the most unpleasant dinner experience I've ever had. She obviosuly had something better to be doing than to be waiting on us and she made that very clear from the moment we sat down.

ROMANOS MACARONI GRILL. We go to Romano's maybe once a year, mostly for birthdays or Christmas Eve. This past weekend, Feb.21,2012 we went (a party of 6) for my wifes birthday. It seems that the place had some changes made since we were there last. The atmosphere was fine,as usual, but the menu had changed a little. The offerings were fewer, but we usually just get spaghetti and meatballs (3 of the 6 of us). So, our waitress was wonderful, she also had to work the bar and still was able to be very attentive (yes, I tipped her well!) but the spaghetti was closer to being under cooked than el dente and the meatballs had to be store bought frozen and they were like rock and almost burned looking. I don't know what happended, we got there at 5 p.m. it wasn't crowded yet, so the kitchen wasn't rushed so we don't know why the food was so bad. None of us mentioned it to one other, so as not to ruin the birthday, but we all got to go containers and then ended up throwing the contents away. It all cost over $112.00 for 6 people. Right across the street is Ragazzi's and although the atmosphere isn't as good, we never had a bad meal there and would've cost a whole lot less. To be fair, as I've said, we have gone to Romano's for special occasions, and never had a bad experience before, BUT, there does to appear to have been some changes in management or chef's and this time our experience was terrible. It may a long while before we go back, just because of this visit I regret to say.

Love it. This is one of my favorites. So things go wrong once in a while. So what. People are human. I just love the Chicken Portabello and the salads. We went recently for my granddaughter's birthday (9th) and everyone sang to her. Sometimes the drinks arriving from the bar are slow but remember the server has to wait for the bartender and sometimes there is only one.

Servers work hard and deserve your patience and your tip. Don't be so fast to pass judgement.

Performing chefs cook up rustic, home-style Italian entrees at this buzzing family restaurant.. In Short
A boisterous, all-ages crowd of pasta lovers pack this energetic Italian spot, where chefs clad in white hats and red scarves keep diners wide-eyed by showing their moves in the busy open kitchen. The menu boasts family-sized portions of hearty traditional fare, from antipasti, chicken and pasta dishes to seafood, steak and wood-fired pizzas. Signature plates include grilled pork chops, lobster ravioli, and penne rustica with shrimp, grilled chicken and smoked prosciutto in cream sauce.

Lousy Service - OK food. I used to like the restaurant but my last two visits turned me off and I don't plan on returning. The food is OK but the service is terrible. First visit for my daughters birthday the waiter just plopped the birthday cake on the table and walked away, very disappointing to my young daughter after there were several other birthday groups there that got the full staff birthday greeting.

Second visit the waitress was inattentive, slow to take the order and sat down to chat with some customers/friends at a nearby table while we waited... and waited for the check.. Only when we ask her for the check did she finally bring it over. This was no kid either, it was a waitress in her 50's.

For my money I'd rather go to Biaggi's in Cary.

Overpriced Food, Lousy Service. My wife and I went to the Macaroni Grill in Cary this evening and found the experience to be most unpleasant.

It's loud, the food is overpriced for the quality you receive and the service was horrific.

Apparently our waitress, Patricia, was new to the whole dining experience. She wasn't aware that people used napkins, silverware and appetizer plates...all of which we had to track down. Also, you're going to need to order all of the drinks that you are going to want with your dinner at the beginning. I didn't realize one beer was going to have to last me my entire meal. To her credit, she did ask us if we wanted water...when we were already leaving. What angered me most was that I didn't have exact change so I ended up leaving her a tip because who knows how long I would have been there if I had waited for it.

My wife and I will obviously not be returning. My advice to the Macaroni Grill is to find a better wait staff or they'll be posting a new sign in their window...OUT OF BUSINESS!!!

Horrible Service from the Managers!. I went there last night with a 2 friends after working a VERY long day. I had the worst service in my entire life. And I thought I already had the worse service here before. The managers were horrible. They had an in your face attitude and literally got into my face. Then they refused to give me the general manager's name and I just left. Completely rude and insulting. I will never go back and anyone I know won't go there again either.

Going downhill?. Unfortunately, Macaroni Grill is not as good as it used to be. They have taken a lot of items off the menu, including most of their great vegetarian dishes. At least they still have the "Create your own pasta", but I found them to be quite skimpy on the toppings this time.

They also seem to frequently forget to place silverware and napkins when resetting a table. More than once, our salad and bread has arrived but we have no utensils to eat them with.

Great place. I've been to many Italian restaurants and this restaurant is one of my favorite place to eat. The price is right and the food is great.
