I guess I am the first person that had a problem with service. It might also be because I am African American and I think they have a mostly Caucasian clientele. Anyway, first the place is very nice and everyone is very friendly. Be prepared to Pay much dinero. I went for a basic color to cover some grey and a trim. Molly is my stylist and is extremely nice.
First I will say I didn't take the best care of my hair, so I tipped her for having to straighten it out.
My problem came at the trim...I mean Hack! With natural African hair, if you cut an inch that's actually like 3. So she basically gave me the big hack when I only asked for a trim. And she asked, are comfortable with the length? I'm like what are going to do, somehow glue it back on?
Then she tries to reassure me that it will be easier to come through now that she cut off all the dry hair, and I was like anything is easier to come through when it's 2 inches.
And the whole reason I went with the darker color was she told me it would be a gradual lightening to lighter auburn at the top. After she cut the 2 inches off, you can't even see the highlights so now it's just all dark brown...pointless.
I mean I really couldn't make a scene and she was already late for another client due to working on me.
The other problem is that somehow she didn't know how to prevent the dye from being all over my hair line. I didn't really see this until I went to the bathroom. So know I look like that chick from Star Trek with all the freckles going down her body.
Bottom line, I have to wear a wig to cover up my $132 ($165 before the 20% discount from city search) do.
I hope to see the wisdom in the hair in the next few weeks because I am not seeing it right now.
She's very nice...just maybe not for me
This is a lovely salon with friendly warm people. Molly is so talented and spent 3hours on my first visit discussing style and color repair. I cut my hair shortnformthe first time in 30 years and it rocks! And the prices are reasonable!
AMAZING!! HEATHER is AWESOME – I was supposed to get married on the beach but hurricane Irene hit, I had to re-schedule everything!!!!! We ended up getting married the same day but in Raleigh. I called Bottega to see if it was even possible for someone to do my hair and makeup for my wedding which was scheduled for the next day. They talked with Heather and said no problem. She even came in an hour early to do my hair and makeup. She is NO rookie!!!! I was so impressed with her skills and I looked amazing when she was done. Heather was so sweet and thoughtful and really helped me to relax (if that was possible to do during a hurricane on your wedding day) but she did. I highly recommend her to anyone, especially brides. I will even continue to drive and see her and keep her as my regular stylist! Thanks so much Heather and to the other helpful, nice stylist and staff at Bottega!!!
Chic but not pretentious – I have been to Bottega for 2 years now. I have seen jenn, michelle, rachael, and heather and all have been fabulous and sweet. They make you feel comfortable and pampered. Rachel also does my husband's hard to tame curly hair and made it look the best it ever has. My most recent stylist was Heather who is a new member of the team and i was floored by what a fantastic job she did on my hair. She was sweet and definitely deserves a chance for anyone who has had bad experiences and is afraid to try "emerging talent". I felt like she was really paying attention to me and she was meticulous in her work. Overall it is a fantastic salon and I cant say enough good things about it.
Great cut! – I have been wanting to get my haircut for a while now, but I have been afraid to try out a new salon (my favorite salon is in DC!) in the Raleigh area because my hair is naturally curly, thick, and frizzy, but I want a sleek haircut that I can straighten and still manage. I was a little skeptical to go to bottega because they call rookie hair stylists "emerging talents" however I figured its $20 cheaper so why not! Heather did my hair like a pro! She totally called the type of style and gave me bangs and fabulous layers, I feel like a movie star :) Definitely recommend this salon. Great place, friendly staff, and they serve beer and wine if you want to relax. Don't be scared by the "emerging stylist" description, try out bottega for your next cut! :)
Mary Taylor is Fabulous!! – Mary Taylor has been doing my hair for 4 years and she always hits the right combination of stylish and trendy for an over 50 woman that doesn't want to look her age!!! Her color skills are amazing and friends have come to her for the perfect fix to their hair trauma!
HIGHLY Recommend Mary Taylor!!!!
Rachael Ford: Fringe Fashionista – Rachael has been doing my hair for four years, and I can assure you that she will be doing it for many more. Rachael's talent is pure genius; when she starts coloring or cutting, you can be sure that your finished 'do will be divine.
Rachael is patient and tenderhearted, and her style is flawless. Best of all, she is 100 percent passionate about what she does.
Love love love this salon! – This salon is amazing! I have been using Michelle to do my hair for a while and followed her from her old salon to Bottega. She does fantastic coloring that fits each person individually, as well as recommends ways to color and cut your hair that fit you. The salon's atmosphere is super trendy yet laid back, they provide you with water, sodes and wine, and the people are super friendly and nice. Its a convenient location for walking to lunch spots downtown or hopping on the R-line. I love the place and am a true follower! If in need of a stylist/hair cutter, Michelle is your woman!
Great salon! – My stylist yesterday was Michellel Scaraglino and I wanted to change the color of my hair to something warmer for fall but wasn't sure what to do so Michelle brought out a couple of samples and we talked and we decided what to do and anyway, my color turned out great - it's a nice, warm, blondish, brownish, coppery color which is exactly what I wanted for this time of year! Thanks, Michelle!
A Super Salon – Jenn came highly recommended from my former stylist who moved out of the area several years ago. Since then I've followed Jen from salon to salon until she launched her "dream" salon in Bottega. I really disliked the texture of my hair and as I aged it became more dry, course and unmanageable. But with a precision cut, intricate color and the use of quality products, I now manage my hair rather than allowing it to manage me. People are so complimentary and I look forward to my next visit to see what we're gonna do next.
And it gets even better! Now Jenn has recruited and assembled a team of talented stylists who work together to make sure each client has an unparralled experience. Once I had a special event and at the last minute decided I wanted a blow out/and style and Rachael Ford stepped up to the plate and went way out of her way to accommodate me! Her work was excellent! Aaron Meyers has done the same and is wonderful too!
Truthfully, you can't go wrong with Bottega!
