Outstanding color, cut, experience

by dleffler27 at Citysearch

I love Alter Ego! From the moment you arrive, you are treated with respect and made to feel welcomed. I have been there three times in three months, and have always had an excellent experience. Meghann Holland (Meggs) is my Alter Ego stylist. Her professionalism, talent, creativity and the the quality of care and service she has given me as her client has been consistently amazing every time. She consults with you. She listens, she makes suggestions, and she works with you to see that you not only get the cut, color, styling you want, but also what she honestly believes will work best for you. If you want an amazingly good cut, excellent color, and a stylist that you can relate to, see Meggs.

Real Professional and a consistent experience

I have been there several times. They give a solid cut and style and the conversation is good too. The price is high but you get what you pay for.

Bad Hair Coloring, Even Worse Customer Service

by Troyusrex at Citysearch

My girlfriend had the WORST salon experience ever at Alter Ego Raleigh!!! Not only do they lack coloring skills but she had never been treated so rudely by a salon manager, Stephen Ridolfi, and owner Dana Hunter or by any business for that matter. She wanted strawberry blonde hair blonde highlights and brought a picture of how she wanted to look. The stylist consulted with the manager, Stephen Ridolfi, and he explained what she should do. After processing, it came out a dark, dark brown with no highlights. Stephen was very condescending and told her that after a few washes it would be the color she wanted. She wasn't pleased and wasn't leaving until it was right. He then instructed Hannah again on how to fix the color, but was extremely rude to me the entire time. After my second process it looked exactly the same …dark, dark brown with no highlights. Hannah put highlights in but the color was horrible. Stephen came over and made up excuses as to why it didn’t work…such as her hair texture or maybe she didn’t understand what he was trying to communicate to her. When she brought in the picture as reference, they should have told her if they can do the job or not.

She was very upset and said she hated it as it was nothing like she wanted. She has never had a bad color experience even after years of having her hair colored. The stylist Hannah told Stephen and Dana that she didn’t feel like she should charge her since she knew this is not what she wanted and saw how upset she was. They were incredibly rude and non-sympathetic at all. Who treats customers like that?! So Dana told her that she WOULD pay for the color job, even though it wasn’t what she wanted! Because they performed a service she would pay for it …REALLY???? They tried to convince her it looked better then when she came in. She was certainly not looking for opinions at all and felt it was extremely insulting. She told the owner she was not paying and that they should actually pay for her time since she was in there from 5:00-9:30 (4 ½) hours. Dana said that if she didn’t pay for the horrible service she would call the police. My girlfriend told her to go right ahead. She was in disbelief that they screwed her color up then wanted to charge her $92 knowing she was unhappy. I guess they don’t understand the phrase “the customer is always right”. So the police officer arrived and she explained the problem. She looked at the picture and at her hair and said unfortunately by law she had to pay the $92. She paid and asked them to validate her parking ticket and she was out of there. Dana told her that they do not charge for parking after 7:00 pm and it was 9:30 pm. She got to her car and they were indeed charging, so it cost her yet another $5.00. I just want people to know that when a business makes a mistake that my past experience is that they are apologetic and will do whatever to correct the mistake so the end result is a happy customer. This was the absolute worst case scenario ever.

She went to “Gel” in Cary the next morning and the owner, Nikki Wilson, was so sweet and told her she had Mark Ritchey, who is a color specialist from Manhattan was in today and would fit her in to look at it . She went over there and they again could not believe her experience and how far off her hair color was to the picture. Mark was very nice and comforting and said he could correct it. He corrected the color and it now looks great. Mark has been in the hair business since the 70’s so felt bad that a salon would do that to a customer.

So to get her hair colored it cost $92 at ALTER EGO, $5 for Parking , $120 for Mark to correct the horrific color, not to mention the 4 ½ hours wasted at ALTER EGO Friday night. The funny thing is my girlfriend was referred by a co-worker, so you would think they would be a little bit more conscientious about the power of word of mouth advertising.

Great cut! Awesome salon!

by blatkins722 at Citysearch

This was my first time at Alter Ego, and I was extremely pleased! It had a great, relaxed atmosphere, and I felt very comfortable.

I saw Meghann Holland and she did a FANTASTIC job! She asked me lots of questions before she started to make sure she knew exactly what I was looking for, and even offered up friendly suggestions, and explained her reasoning behind the suggestions. I have very thick hair and it can be a lot to deal with and it makes me nervous to have others work on it. She handled it with care and did an amazing job. Everyone loves it, and has been complimenting me all day :)

If you want a great, professional stylist and a fresh look, then go see Meghann! You won't be disappointed.

I wouldn't go anywhere else but Alter Ego in Raleigh

by Lizlou at Citysearch

I have had my hair cut twice at Alter Ego, both times by Dana, and both times I was extremely pleased with the results.

She cut my hair so that now, more than a month after my last cut, it's still fairly easy to style.

During the cut, she kept her focus on my hair rather than conversation. For me that's a big plus.

She was friendly and professional, and I will be loyal as long as I'm in Raleigh.
