Love. Love. Love. Can't get enough of this place. I work across the street and have spend happy many a lunch hours here... but this weekend I went to check out the "bar scene" for the first time. The bar was packed but we still didn't have to wait long to be served. The shots were perfect, the draft beer selection was very nice and the crowd was a great mix of all Raleigh types. The Oxford has won me over and I will be back again.
Awesome place to start a night on the town! – My husband and I don't get to go out without our kids often but we were headed to a musical at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium last weekend and we wanted a nice place to eat beforehand. A couple of friends had mentioned that they enjoyed the Oxford a while back so we decided to give them a try despite the mixed online reviews. We were not disappointed!
This was one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. We had made reservations and were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive but not annoyingly so. We ordered appetizers and they were brought quickly. We highly recommend the sweet and spicy shrimp. Although they are pretty pricey for what you get, they were awesome!
We were both in the mood for steak so my husband got the NY strip and I got the filet. Both were cooked exactly right and were very flavorful. We will definitely be back!
Thanks for a great start for our night out on the town! (We also loved that this place is easily in walking distance to the auditorium.)
Oxford missed the mark – Attended the NC Symphony Event at the Oxford last night. Seldom am I inspired to write a negative review, but this was hands down the worst food, beverages and service that I have ever seen at a catered event showcasing a business. Thanks to the Oxford for co-sponsoring the event, but ..... Did your really want patron's feet to stick to the dirty floor in the event room? Did you really want to serve room temperature (the hot ones were not hot, cold were not cold!), bland, tasteless appetizers to showcase your cooking ability? Did you really want to understaff with only 1 bartender (who did as much as one person could possibly do) so patrons waited in line only to be told the beer was just brought in and was not cold? Did you really forget to put a bus tray out for the drink glasses and people got frustrated and threw them in the trash? We saw all we needed to see last night. We won't be back. BTW the NC Symphony gets 5 Stars for their performance!
Could Have Been Better – Sunday Brunch: Primarily for this amt. of people, they hae very little seating - you must make a reservation or wait a very long time. We were hungry, didn't really want to wait for a regular table, so the hostess sat us @ of the the high tables in the foyer/ front of the restaurant - eh, but @ least we got seated quickly. We arrived @ 1p. The food wasn't that great @ all. Just wasn't what we expected. They didn't have the biggest selection for a brunch either. They definitely need more than 1 waffle iron - you have to wait like 15min. for a made-to-order waffle. On the bright side, there omelettes were greath & cooked quickly. My young son had 2!
Would not go back there again - 'been there, done that.' Bogarts down the street is far better for brunch, or even the Crabtree Marriott.
I had a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – I was in there on New Years Eve, and now Im hooked!!!
Anyone who has been and didnt have a good time should get there head examined (and a life)!! The menu is so amazing, with so many options!!! The Tomato and Stilton bisque is to die for! The server told us that almost everything is made in house, and it showed in product quality and presentation.
The band they had rocked it out all night, and the crowd really got into it! The champagne toast was a great addition! I will definitely be back to The Oxford!!
Bad Reviews are Crazy! – I love The Oxford!! These bad reviews are ridiculous! Everything from the staff to the food to the atmosphere is awesome. I've never had a bad experience here, and I'm in regularly. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly (my favorite servers are Deana, Brandon, and Chris) and Chef John has created an amazing menu. Mark the manager always goes above and beyond to ensure my experience is pleasant. Keep up the great work!!
Meet. Eat. Drink. – The Oxford is a great place to eat a meal or just grab just to a couple of drinks. The menu is extensive with something for everyone and stellar presentation to boot. You can't beat the arugula salad with salmon and a cup of tomato bisque. On the other hand the beer list is insane and during my last visit the gentleman behind the bar made me the most perfect kettle one dirty martini. The service staff is friendly and helpful and it doesn't help that they're also good looking! With a crowd consisting of more upscale people that make the environment more pleasant with a lot of young professionals. Friday an Saturday nights in my experience get crazy but luckily they're one of the few bars offering cocktail service as an alternative to the bar, not to mention they serve food until 2am!! The Oxford is definitely a must visit in downtown Raleigh whether you're looking for a great place to eat, a few drinks after work, or a hotspot on the weekends.
Good food. Nice Bar. – I lived in Raleigh for several years before I got around to trying this place. I wish I had stopped by earlier. I like the atmosphere. It's a nice place to get a decent dinner with a date or a group of friends, and if you're looking for nightlife it really picks up steam later in the evening, (on the weekends of course).
The food is kind of an upscale twist on yout typical pub fare. What I've had so far has all been good. It's a little pricier than your typical fish and chips sort of place but you can taste the difference.
If you tend to wander down Fayeteville street, or if you work in the downtown area try them out. It's a good spot.
I highly recommend the oxford experience!!! – The oxford is a wonderful place to dine with a staff that is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I have dined there several times trying different things and have found all the dishes to be amazing and so full of flavors that blend so well in your mouth. And I love the concept of an upscale restaurant combined with a bar!! There is nothing better then finishing an awesome meal and then walking a few steps over to a bar that offers a warm and inviting environment with an equaly friendly staff!!
Cheerio? More like cheery ... no! – What could be more horrible than the food? The service. The service. The service! Incredibly rude management and lackluster staff make this one of Raleigh's worst spots. So many amazing restaurants these days ... don't waste a single penny (or breath) here!
Came over the holidays with friends to "Eat. Meet. Drink." Talk about a major letdown. Felt like I was in a sardine can .... stuffed at a claustrophic table near the entryway. Crowds were swarming as we struggled to eat the inedible food (that arrived at different times for each of us). Waiters were less than knowledgable. And the menu brought a whole new meaning to the word "overpriced."
Let's just say ... Raleigh's "first" and most-likely LAST gastropub. I don't think we're in England anymore, folks!
