Good sushi, But. Sushi I have to say was good and tasty, actually lot better then their sister location Mura at North hill which I thought Sushi was just Ok. I wish service was as good as their sushi. Servers should be more attentive or management should have more servers when they are busy, like I needed another beer ten minutes a go? Food 4 stars, Service 2.5 stars and another 4 stars for decoration of restaurant.

Amazing Dinner. Absolutely delicious meal. This is my new favorite spot for sushi in Raleigh. No other sushi restaurant even comes close. I can't rave enough about it. Try the Omakase menu. You will not be disappointed. can't wait to go back!! Shumai and Gyoza are amazing!!!

sleek and sexy sushi!. I've been to SONO several times and never had a bad experience.

My first time was for the $25 four-course dinner that they have on Monday's. It is so good and such a great deal! A starter course (when I went it was a shrimp bisque with seared sea scallops), a special roll of your choice (usually runs $9 to $14 just for this portion), a third course (petite steak, 5 shrimp on a skewer, asparagus and wasabi mashed potatoes) and a dessert course.

Each time I've visited I've had a very knowledgeable server who is happy to make suggestions and answer any questions my friends or I may have had.

I personally recommend the Red Dragon or Sono rolls. They are delicious.

I keep coming back for more - seriously, make it part of your weekly/bi-weekly/monthly routine also!

One of the best sushi in Raleigh. # of Visits : several

The Good :

First of all, they have real wasabi. I'm not talking about the tube stuff, the real root! I've not seen any other sushi restaurant in this area use real wasabi root and grate it for you freshly. They also had two other variations of real wasabi, this is very impressive. Even when I was in L.A. there wasn't many restaurants that carried this many variations of wasabi.

Their fish has always been very fresh everyone time I have dined here. I don't think I've had one bad experience as far as the quality goes. I was quite please with their nigiri sushi and sashimi presentation as well. Because of the "not so traditional" atmosphere, I didn't expect it but their sushi and sashimi is probably one of the best in town. Their special rolls were good as well, I especially enjoyed their screaming o, white tiger, and one other roll that was not on their menu which I forgot the name of...but it had seared scallops on top with sliced lemon. I've had the screaming "o" rolls at another restaurant but the spicy tuna mix and the sauce was better here. The chef that created the roll originally is the chef/owner of this place so that might explain it. If you get a chance, have him prepare your sushi meal at the sushi bar, it's quite a experience. He prepares your sushi couple pieces at a time and it is so much better that way.

I tried some of their hot items from kitchen as well and they were also delicious. The gyoza that they hand make was especially good. I don't know many sushi restaurants that makes their own gyoza from scratch, but you can definitely taste the difference. Their tuna and sea bass entree's were also quite good. Very well seasoned and plated.

The Bad :

I once dine here on a weekend and it was chaos! Not that my food or service was bad, it was just really loud and crowded. I'd definitely recommend weekday dining if you are like me and enjoys a more relaxed atmosphere.

The valet service is sometimes ridiculously slow. It's free at least but I do not like waiting 10 minutes for my car. I recommend giving the tickets to the valet people a few minutes before you are ready to go.

Summary :

I grew up eating sushi in Japan and adapted to the American style sushi in L.A. where in my opinion have the best sushi restaurants in America. While there is better sushi restaurants than Sono in other cities, they are pretty much the best in town in my humble opinion and taste buds. Make sure to try the real wasabi with your sushi and if you see the owner (forgot his name but uses an American name) in the sushi bar, have him prepare your meal omakase style.

Great Sushi and Presentation. The food and the service is wonderful. I used to dine at mura and waraji regularly back in the days before they went down hill and found sono to be step above them and the rest. I am glad I found this place. Their sushi is well prepared and presented. The rolls (screaming o, white tiger, crunchy diablo, french kiss) were some of the best sushi rolls i've had and sashimi was very fresh and tasty. Their menu is very diverse and has something for everyone. I asked for their recommendations and it paid off. Price is on the average side for such a nice establishment. Nothing but love for this place.

Great place. This is a great place for sushi in downtown. I go once or twice a month and always happy about my experience. The mood is hotspot and fun is great without breaking the bank.

Chic City Dining Vibe. I adore the sushi and sushimi at Sono! Everytime I'm in town this is the go-to place for late lunch, early dinner, dinner, and drinks with friends. Reminds me of a swanky lil lounge in Atlanta, NY, or Miami. I high recommend you giving it a try. You won't be disappointed.
