Warm inviting environment, excellent yoga
by mindfulwanderer at Citysearch
I feel lucky that I know about this place -Gateway Yoga and that I?ve met many of the teachers and Lila the senior teacher who owns this place. I?m always recommending this yoga studio to my clients (I?m a hairdresser)...it?s a great place to learn how to do the yoga positions...but the thing that keeps me coming back are the people there..they are open and ...well...happy! ...I think that says it all!
Citysearch only offers 5 stars...but I give it a 10!
- Pros: everything is groovey
My favorite yoga experience

Whether you're a newcomer to yoga or to Anusara, or a seasoned yogi, Gateway Yoga offers a welcoming, supportive and transformational experience. All of the instructors are committed to the practice and to the students, and are genuinely interested in helping each individual realize her/his potential.
Owner Lila Brown, who instructs many of the classes, does an excellent job managing her beautiful space, with its pastel hues, candles, and bamboo floors. Her classes are a perfect blend of the spiritual and physical, the individual and the collective?a balanced and affirming mind/body experience. Her studio is an asset to the Triangle!
- Pros: on-site parking and bike-rack available, walkable/bikeable from five points, cameron village, and university, great atmosphere, instruction, and community
Best Yoga studio in Raleigh

Stepping into Gateway Yoga for the first time was like walking into a sanctuary of peace & positivity--I knew I had found a special place.
I was immediately greeted by a smiling, friendly & helpful lady who instructed me to sign in & to fill out a medical information form. Then I was instructed to walk through the beautiful hall to put my stuff in a cubby.
Then I entered the asana practice room for the first time and was astounded by the beautiful artwork, a Sri mandala & a painting of Quan Yin and soothing serene walls.
I borrowed one of their really nice and clean mats and set up my space.
Then the instructor & owner, Lila, took her spot & started class.
She asked us to take a comfortable seat & to start falling into our breaths. I took Siddhasana and let all the tension and worries from my day go.
Then we chanted ?Om? together to unify the class
Then we started the yoga asana practice.
In my first asana, downward dog, Lila came over and respectfully & skillfully aligned my body!
It was the most amazing life enhancing downward dog I?d ever been in.
This I would learn is b/c of the principles of alignment in the Anusara system--making it my favorite style of hatha yoga.
Anusara is based on skillful alignment, belief in the boundless potential inside all of us, opening our hearts, and trusting in the universe & ourselves.
I tell everyone I know to take a class at Gateway Yoga, and those that have continue going back and are now studio regulars much like myself.
Gateway Yoga also offers a FREE week every session where you can try any class with any instructor absolutely free!
I?ve enjoyed becoming a part of the community at gateway, participating in potlucks &service projects & making friends.
I?ve also participated in some amazing workshops at Gateway like Sound Healing, Qi Gong, The mystery of energetic healing, and many many more.
I urge you to stop by Gateway Yoga today and experience the BEST yoga studio in town!!!
