I decided that I wanted to try to have a child while my body was still able. I started the process at one fertility clinic in the Durham area and did not have a great experience. The staff were all very nice but I only saw my doctor during the consultation and never again. I only saw residents and nurses after that who were all very nice but I had no continuity of care. When I tried to schedule an appoint with my doctor to discuss all my failed insemination attempts, I could only get an appoint 5 weeks out or had to pay $140 out of pocket to have a 30 minute phone consultation. I decided to switch to Carolina Conceptions on the recommendation of 2 friends who experienced the same frustration that I had. Carolina Conceptions was the complete opposite experience. My doctor (Dr. John Park) was accessible via e-mail for questions whenever I had concerns. He even responded to my e-mails when he was on vacation! I could schedule time to talk to him within a reasonable time period. The staff was all very nice, supportive, and had positive attitudes. They were flexible with my hectic travel schedule. My doctor at Carolina Conceptions also discovered a uterine polyp that was missed at my other doctor. After it was removed, I immediately became pregnant the next month. I recommend Carolina Conceptions to any single or coupled woman who is trying to conceive. It is a great practice. I had a great experience. If I decide to try again on my own, I will definitely go back to Carolina Conceptions!
Making Dreams Come True.
We went to Carolina Conceptions in late summer-early fall of 2010 for our initial consultation on recommendation from friends. We met with Dr. Meyer and instantly loved him. At that consultation, we decided the best route for us would be IVF. My husband and I began our first IVF round in November. I began the injections November 1 and on December first we had our first positive pregnancy test!
The care and compassion shown to us by not only Dr. Meyer, Dr. Couchman, and Dr. Parks, but by the entire staff is amazing. Every step of this process the entire staff and doctors at Carolina Conceptions felt like family to us. I was actually sad to leave them and look forward to being a patient in the future when we are ready for our family to grow again.
Dr. Meyer is an amazing doctor. My husband would send an email at night so Dr. Meyer would get it in the morning... Dr. Meyer would instantly respond! In fact, Dr. Meyer emailed my husband on November 30, 2010 to see how I was doing. I of course was extremely anxious waiting to see if the IVF took for us. Dr. Meyer had said to take a pregnancy test in the morning (which was before I was due for my blood work). It was positive. 3 blood tests and one ultrasound later, our pregnancy was confirmed. We had implanted 2 embroys on day 5 and had success with our first IVF round! We were so blessed and happy. Dr. Park had performed the confirming ultrasound at 6 weeks (which showed triplets), and Dr. Meyer came to see us at checkout and congratulate us on the pregnancy as well as refer us to a perinatologist. Dr. Park had mentioned spontaneous reduction, which happened in our case, however we have a beautiful, healthy and happy three month old daughter now. I am sure it is not an easy thing to do - look at a couple who is overjoyed about their growing family and tell them it may not remain that way. The doctors at Carolina Conceptions have a gifted way of telling patients what they need to know, even the hard part, in a personable way. I felt Dr. Park wasn't telling us what could go wrong to be a downer, but to be honest. We left knowing the risks but also knowing the doctors genuinely care about us as their patients.
Carolina Conceptions made our dreams of becoming parents a reality and every moment we look at our daughter, we know how blessed we are and that it wouldn't be possible without them. We would definitely recommend Carolina Conceptions and will use them in the future when we are ready for our family to grow again.
Very happy with the people and the process!.
We had our first consultation at Carolina Conceptions in July and found out we were pregnant in early October.
From the front office staff, to the nurses, doctors, and even the billing department, we were greeted with friendly, sensitive professionals. All the information was explained to us fully up front, and we felt comfortable with the process the whole way through. We worked mostly with Dr. Couchman, who was very straight-forward and knowledgeable. We especially appreciated her follow-up calls after procedures. We also had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Park on a couple of occasions. We loved Dr. Park who was very sensitive and thorough. In addition, the nurses were extremely helpful. Soon after finding out I was pregnant, I had some worrisome symptoms and called the nurses' line. Within minutes, I received a call back assuring me that everything was okay. That kind of response is much appreciated by a newly pregnant woman!
Once I got a positive home pregnancy test, I appreciated their close follow through of two blood tests to confirm, and then two ultrasounds over the next few weeks. From there, they quickly sent all of my records to my OB and expressed their excitement about our pregnancy. We were very pleased with the process and the people at Carolina Conceptions. I feel they're doing great things there!
We are pregnant, 1st IVF round!.
We actually hit a milestone yesterday, our 30 week marker! My husband and I are so thrilled - it is still hard to believe that after years of trying to conceive on our own, we have a little girl to look forward to meeting the end of December. First round of IVF with 3 eggs implanted (our choice) on day 3 = our little miracle.
I am writing to try and put other reviews in perspective that I have read on this site... First, I would like to start by thanking Drs Meyer, Parks and Couchman and their staff for their expertise and for giving us the encouragement to proceed forward and begin our family.
We were referred to this clinic from numerous friends that have had success there. Initially, I will admit that we felt some of the same frustrations that others have written about. However, we researched all clinics on the east coast and found that the best of the best was right in our back yard - so we gave it another try, went in for a consult and have never been happier. All 3 doctors have different personalities that compliment one another well (Meyer has a dry, but ever so funny sense of humor - Couchman is sweet and comforting - Parks is personable and enthusiastic), but work well together as your IVF team. The response time to our questions (I always emailed) was excellent and to the point and they were willing to think outside the box and be reassuring based on our thoughts and concerns.
I think that this process is so emotional - you want someone to hold your hand and tell you it will be okay and that, unfortunately, is not going to help you conceive. The doctors at CC are honest, professional and straight forward. They have the difficult job of telling you what you NEED to hear, not what you WANT to hear, and then recommending the best individual approach.
Yes, the office IS a business - they are in the business of making dreams come true. We will be starting our family sometime the end of December with the arrival of our first daughter and look forward to going back to try for round 2 in the near future. The doctors at Carolina Conceptions and their staff are specialists at working with each individual person based on their circumstances. You have to trust their advice, even if it is hard to hear. It is the quickest and best way to begin your family... I wish I hadn't delayed as long as I did.
Several women I know have gone to other clinics without success only to conceive the NEXT time after changing clinics to CC. You may find a more "comfy" approach at another office, but if you want the best in the area, give Carolina Conceptions a call - you will be making the best decision for your family in the long run.
Thats just another business. I have been to carolina conceptions and all they know about is money. they are not concerend with the persons dificult situations. they are not ready to listen to any one particularly their financial coordinators. they should be a little more accomodating to the peoples emotion and problems.
Amazing staff and extremely happy with results.
I had a great experience with Dr. Meyer, Dr. Couchman, Dr. Park, and the nurses at Carolina Conceptions. I would highly recommend them to anyone facing infertility issues as they are professional, highly-skilled, and personable…they really care about their patients! They even give out their email addresses and personally respond back to your questions and concerns. I don’t know of any other doctors that would offer this kind of service. And with their lab on-site, they can give your blood test results in less than a day…and will personally call you with your results. (*Note - If you authorize them to leave messages on your voicemail, then they will. Make sure you read what you are agreeing to when filling out your initial paperwork if you don't want test results left on your vm.)
I came to Carolina Conceptions back in April 2010 after finding out that I had several fertility issues. I was probably the typical stressed out I-want-to-be-a-mother-right-now patient and even walked into Dr. Meyer’s office with a huge notebook of my health history, surgery pictures, etc. He was very patient, positive, and straight-forward, but with a bit of humor that was meant to relax me and my husband. I was so on-edge that he recommended that I consider seeing an acupuncturist, Kolleen with Triangle Acupuncture Clinic, as there have been studies that it can help with the stress of infertility and IVF success (if that’s an option).
After several months of tests, surgery, medicines, and acupuncture, Dr. Meyer recommended in August that we start IVF. He even commented on how “relaxed” I was and said the acupuncture was obviously helping me. I was assigned an IVF nurse, Meghan Markman, who was so patient with me and answered all my questions throughout the IVF process. I probably emailed and called her with questions almost every other day! So, we had very good results with the egg retrieval and implantation process…we got pregnant on the first round of IVF! We had several ultrasounds at CC before they turned me over to my regular OB-GYN. I was actually disappointed that I had “graduated” onto my OB-GYN since I was getting such personalized, weekly service at CC. My IVF nurse gave me a hug on my last day.
I am just over 39 weeks and due to deliver any day now. I am 100% convinced that I would not be pregnant right now without Dr. Meyer and his team’s help. I recently reached out to Dr. Meyer to see how soon I can start again for baby #2 (due to insurance reasons) and he responded back almost immediately via email despite being on vacation!
*Note – I will say that while Dr. Meyer and his team are fantastic, one of the front desk staff is not as friendly as she could be. She rarely smiles and is short in her replies, so I’m not sure if she’s over-worked or she just isn’t as happy with her job as the rest of the team. In any case, everyone else is great so it doesn’t bother me. As far as the finance department, I worked with Susan who was very patient and helped me with all my insurance questions. I even received a $500 reimbursement check after I was done with my IVF process due to my secondary insurance overpayment to CC.
So Disappointed.
I was highly recommended to this practice from my OB-GYN and a close friend. I met with Dr. Meyer and he was very straightforward which is what I needed. He advised that once the test results come back I would know what my options were. I followed up just like he said and the following day I received a phone call from his staff. The staff person left a message on my VOICEMAIL with my test results and followed up with "If you want to consider egg donation just give us a call back."
How disappointing and heartless. My hopes and dreams were shattered in a voicemail. It's bad enough to receive bad news, but that way was unacceptable.
Wonderful experience!!!. We had a wonderful experience with Carolina Conceptions. Dr. Parks was always thorough, patient and knowledgeable about every aspect of our IVF journey. My husband and I felt well informed about the whole process, Dr. Parks was available and patient with any of our questions or concerns. I felt he always had our best interest in mind. He provided us with every available option and remained optimistic about the probability of pregnancy success. I am blessed to say we are pregnant after one round of IVF and had been doubtful about my chances of having children at my age but Carolina Conceptions made our dreams a reality. I especially found the financial counselor(Angela) to be very helpful, patient and always willing to stop whatever she was doing to assist me with any issues or concerns I had. I felt she went out of her way to make sure we had a great overall experience. The whole process can be emotionally overwhelming and we are glad we chose Carolina Conceptions and would recommended it to anyone.
Financial staff not as helpful as you'd hope.
My husband and I met with a doctor at CC several weeks ago. Afterward, we met with someone from finance. She was OK. Sort of rushed through her spiel on costs, but the place is a business and she goes through the costs with potential clients probably a hundred times a day. She's totally on autopilot. Anyway, I recently had four very quick questions, wanted to clarify a few things, so emailed her. Her answers were incomplete, almost incoherent. And she didn't even respond to one of my questions, which really was simple and straightforward. Required a 'yes' or a 'no.' All she had to do was read my SHORT email and respond. But it felt as though she couldn't be bothered.
Sure, she's busy. But so am I. And I'm about to spend thousands and thousands of dollars, so maybe CC could be a little more responsive and COMMUNICATE CLEARLY. And if they don't want to be emailed questions, then the staff shouldn't hand out business cards with email addresses and tell potential clients to email them with any possible questions.
If we end up using CC I'm just going to have to accept that it's a business and I'll likely be treated as if I'm buying a new car.
Nice Physicians & Nurses. Let me start off by stating that I'm waiting for results and am writing this review prior to the results so it is not biased one way or another. Also, if you are a local celebrity, I strongly advise not attending this practice as one of the doctor's disclosed a local celebrity was a patient - so they may well violate your confidentiality. The Physicians and nurses seem extremely competent, but fail to communicate important details to the patient. They are extremely friendly and accommodating. They do fail to discuss concerns or issues with the patient directly and make choices as they see fit. Not that the choices are bad, but after paying thousands, I'd expect to know what is going on. Perhaps I am expecting a bit too much? The front desk staff is a mixed bag. There is one really sweet one (light blonde) that is a joy to see when checking in, however the other's are like lions ready to attack and have attitudes...so beware and don't expect a smile (think Rosanne Barr on a bad day). The financial ladies appear to be overwhelmed as they are extremely slow to respond, but I will say they are very very nice and will eventually get back to you. I felt this practice is like the assembly line dental offices you go to. Parking is crazy if you have an 8:15 -Noon appointment. I wouldn't recommend this place as they are not very thorough with testing. Also, be prepared to be flexible for their schedules...they don't do monitoring appointments in the afternoon. Unfortunately there is no emotional support if you are having issues or difficulties with medications side effects and will have to seek help elsewhere.
