Pleasantly surprised!. I just moved from Seattle. My old hairstylist was AMAZING...(only after he did my hair) I would be bombarded with whistles and the like. :) As you can imagine, I didn't think anyone would match up to him. Fortunately, I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!! Mary knows what she's doing. I like how she listens to what you want and caters to what is practical to you. At the same time, she gently throws in her suggestions/ideas, without being pushy. She cut my hair dry..(a sign of a good stylist). Then styled it into a beautiful hair concoction. :) The haircut she gave me is perfect for my face shape/hair texture. Also, she made/showed suggestions of how to put my hair up and style it. Also, did I mention, she's a pleasant, intelligent person to talk to! It's a nice bonus. I almost don't want to write a good review because I want her to be my secret fabulous hair stylist haha. :)

Mary will fix your head inside and out .... A haircut by Mary will leave you looking fashionable and beautiful on the outside -- with a style that you'll love even when you're doing the styling yourself - and feeling hopeful and peaceful on the inside. Mary is amazing and when you leave her place you'll look and also feel amazing too - everyone should check her out.

Best haircut I ever had!. This is absolutley the best haircut I have ever had. Mary is so caring and really listens to what you want. I was not used to having someone cut my hair dry (she assured me we would wash it when she was done) but I believe this is at least part of what made a difference! Once she explained why she was doing this, it made perfect sense. There are parts of my hair that tend to flip up (which I hate) and she would not be able to see those parts if my hair was wet. Mary is all about helping you get a style that flows with the way your hair grows, rather than just chopping away and then styling it her own way when she's done. How many times have you had a haircut that looked good when you left the salon, only to get home and not be able to duplicate it, or to find out that there are pieces that are not even but the stylist managed to hide that during the blowdry process. It has been almost 3 weeks now since my cut, and I have not had one "bad hair day" since! Thank you Mary for your kindness and for sharing your talents with those of us who so desperately need them!

You will leave there feeling and looking GREAT!. Been in Raleigh for 5 years. I DREADED finding a new hair stylist. First place was a disaster, second place was so-so, third place was ok, 4th place was good but out of my way...Then by luck after over-spending for hair cuts that I either hated or was somewhat satisified...I found Hair By Mary. Just picked her out of the phonebook.

Mary:

1) knows her stuff from Cut, Color, new techniques, great product

2) Constantly offers advise, help, and great pointers

3) is respectable about YOUR time

4) Very competitive

5) Innovative

6) Fun to go to

7) My mom is jealous that she doesn't live here and can't go to her.

8) and Honest...always will do what makes you look your best and will tell you if your ideas just might not work.

9) If you bring a picture of a style you like....you leave there with your hair looking like that style.

10) She listens

Give her a try, you will love her.

Wouldn't Trust My Hair to Anyone but Mary. I moved to Raleigh about 3.5 years ago. I went through about 3 different hair dressers before I found Mary. I went to Mary in December 2007 with what was beginning to look like a mullet (not cool). I have curly hair. All you curly girls know we need a hair stylist who knows what they're doing with our curls. I think that's what I love most about Mary...she understands my curl.

Just tell Mary how you like to syle your hair, what you do, and what you need, and she'll take it from there. Mary is, afterall, a professional. She's not just some chick with scissors. She may not do exactly what you thought you wanted, but I've never left Mary's chair with a bad haircut. And, that's the most important thing when choosing a stylist, right?

Wonderful experience. I was skeptical after reading some of the bad reviews and because I am very picky when it comes to my hair but Mary ended up knowing her stuff and gave me a great new do! I love the makeover concept because that's exactly what I needed! She listened to my ideas and mixed them with her own for an amazing product. I definitely will be returning and recommend her services to others.

I feel gorgeous. . .like I belong in a magazine!. I heard about Mary through some ladies that I work with. Impressed by the makeovers my colleagues received, I had Mary work her magic on my hair. Wow! What a difference! I didn't know that I could look this good. I really feel like I stepped off the page of a magazine or something. Anyway, I am so glad to have finally found a look that works so well for me and my styling ability.

Really, really like my new cut!. Mary gave me a great cut and color that helped update my look. I've had complete strangers compliment me on the cut - you can't beat that!

Worst Hair Cut I've Ever Had. Mary gave me a haircut that resembles a mullet- i left her salon looking a lot worse then when i arrived. My hair was long and she was going to take 2 inches off of the bottom and ended up taking off twice that amount to adapt to the layering she did which was too short and looks terrible- this is feedback that i've gotten from everyone that's seen my hair (not a fun week). This is the typical nightmare that most women have about a hair stylist- i would not let her near my hair with a pair of scissors again. Beware of the previous reviews (many of the dates seem contrived and in response to the bad reviews posted).

Saving Grace.... The first time I called Mary (who was recommended by my boss) I needed an appointment for the next day, which she was able to do by fitting me in during off hours. I came in a bleached out mess and was desperate for someone to fix the damage done by an EVIL hairdresser. She listened and talked with me about what I wanted (because I didn?t know exactly) and was able to come up something FABOULOUS! She showed me how to style my hair at home and also some alternative looks. Mary is a truly talented stylist and colorist, and has an amazing personality to match. She made me look gorgeous; and I have gotten so many compliments. She is truly talented at what she does! Thank you Mary!
