Great business. The Q-Shack is a really great place! My husband and I really love going here because you get quality food for a great price! The food is fantastic. We really like the beef brisket, onion rings, and baked beans. Tom, the owner catered our wedding and we could not have been happier. I got so many compliments on the food and we were so thrilled that he was able to make our vision a reality. The owner is a really nice guy and a hard worker. I highly recommend giving it a try and know you're supporting a great local business--not some ho-hum chain.

Best I have had in Raleigh, but still not great. We ate at the Q shack today. I was the only person in line and it took about 5 minutes for someone to walk over and take my order.

We had the brisket and the smoked pork shoulder sandwich. The meat was tasty, but the brisket tasted closer to a good pot roast rather than a smoked brisket. Don't get me wrong, it tasted fine, but coming from the midwest, it did not taste like smoked brisket to me. It tasted like it was started in a smoker, but then finished quickly in a oven more like a smoky roast. Tender, but not fall apart in your sandwich tender like I am used to.

The pork was tasty, good flavor. Not really smoky, but tasty.

The slaw was hardly dressed, and we received really small portions of slaw. It tasted like they had just pulled it out of the bag before they gave it to us. Very cabbagey. For a $2 side, it was like 30 cents worth of dry cabbage.

The sauces are so so. One vinegar based, one sweet thicker sauce.

The other sides were okay. Nothing I would crave for a future visit, but nothing that I would not eat if it was on my plate.

They got our bill wrong, but after restating my order three times I just paid for the extra side I did not order. For two it was just over $20.

Portions were average. It was okay, just not great. That said, I have had mostly bad bbq in Raleigh. So if you are just looking for decent bbq in Raleigh, it's probably worth stopping by.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate.

I will make sure to review our smoking procedure with my team. Our brisket should be a bit smoky, with a classic smoke ring around the meat. Art more than science!!

Our slaw is served drier, for sure. Happy to provide more sauce if you'd like- anytime. We use locally grown, organic cabbage and hand cut our slaw- no bags, I assure you!

I hope we have a chance to meet and appreciate your comments.

My best,

Tom Meyer

EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!!. We had a catered lunch today from The Q Shack, the meat was digestible but the rest of the food was horrible!! The hush puppies tastes like they were two days old, the macaroni & cheese was dry, the BBQ Beans were terrible!! worst lunch we have ever had. I hope we never get food from this place again!!!

Thanks for posting a review. I would appreciate if you would let me know where we catered for you and I would be happy to make it right. We hand make everything, everyday from fresh, local ingredients and I have a long list of very satisfied customers. I would very much like for you to be among them- but at the very least, I'd like to make good on a lunch that obviously wasn't good for you. I may be reached at theqshack@gmail.com or at 919-308-6665. Thanks for caring enough to post a comment and please let me know how I can make it right for you-

Q Shack. really have to disagree with the previous post. My family and I eat at the Q-Shack once a week and have always had positive experiences. They have catered parties at my home as well as my office and the service is always prompt and friendly. Being a Texas native, the biggest draw to the shack for me is their delicious and authentic BBQ that is really hard to find in this area. Brisket tastes like it came from my favorite restaurant in Dallas! It is served fast, but still fresh. Not only is the food great, but the employees. I regularly use them for large office orders and the food is always ready when I pick it up and I am in and out fast which is good when on a busy work schedule. Having my hands full one trip, an employee that was not even on the clock carried my order out to my car. Many other employees at my office and friends share similar experiences and have nothing but positive things to say!

Thanks for the positive feedback- I appreciate that, too! Customer Service is number one for us and it always disappoints me when someone isn't treated well- so I take the bad experiences and use them to retrain with the team. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Best-

Tom

The Q Shack - North Hills. Today was the second time recently that I have had a bad experience with The Q Shack at North Hills. Last time was just horrible service - I had to wait both times for them to stop socializing behind the counter in order to take my order. Both times I was the only one in line so it wasn't like they were so busy. They never ask if there is anything else you need or say thank you!!! Today Luke was just flat out rude and tossed my bag up on the counter with no thank you - NOTHING!!! I'm done with that place for good. This is two times in a row and I am not the only one this has happened to. Bad service and rude employees = no more business from me. Plus today they shorted me my side dish!!! Too expensive for crappy service and to be shorted!!

Thanks for your note here about your recent experiences at my restaurant. I was not aware that you had had bad experiences with Luke and I will make sure to address this with him immediately.

I have my name, email and phone number on the wall and on our frequent diner cards and I welcome you to contact me anytime something isn't right. I always have time for my customers.

My thanks for letting us know and I hope you'll give us another try or contact me directly so that I can have you as my guest.

Poor Management & Beware of Coupons for this Place. After ordering meals for 4, I was told that they would not accept a restaurant coupon which was specifically for their location. They said that they had cancelled the printing of it three months ago. My coupon was printed 6 months ago and it said it was good for one year.

They said "too bad" but there was nothing they could do. They would not even give us free sodas to go with our paid order. The man in charge said "I can't do that". Hmmm. I think he could have. But I can't go back there! (neither can my coworkers who also have coupons)

Thanks, Morma, for your comment. I understand your frustration- I would have been too. These coupons were not printed by my restaurant or authorized by me to go beyond the date I agreed to with that company. Despite my attempts to get them to cancel, they still have not removed the coupons from their site. They now say they will by mid next month. Their refusal has cost me goodwill with my guests and thousands of dollars because they didn't honor our contract.

I have personally dealt with many of my customers over this issue and always make my guests happy. I am sorry you left unhappy. I hope you'll give me the chance to make it right for you.

My thanks.

Love it -- not kid friendly. I honestly love love love the Q shack. The que is sensational, but when I saw that it on a kid friendly list -- I had to speak out. They have no changing tables! You cannot be a kid-friendly restaurant and not have a changing table. Besides having a kid meal on the menu, there is essentially no child-friendly aspect to the place. No crayons, limited high chairs, etc. Enjoy it on a lunch break from work -- but do not bring the kids unless they are potty trained.

Thanks for posting your review. I'll see what I can do to upgrade the kid experience. You are right. My sincere thanks.
