What People Are Saying About YANCY'S

In Short – The jazz-infused hotspot that once drew crowds to City Market is now heating up the scene on Fayetteville Street. The space serves dual purposes: a restaurant for diners who can't get enough of the Po' Boy sandwiche or the Cajun-fried oysters - and a bar for the late-night crowd that craves regular doses of sax and piano. The grey booths lining the room offer plenty of space for large parties, but most of the action happens at Yancy's marble bar.
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- Parking on Fayetteville Street can be tricky. There's a parking deck nearby on Wilmington Street if you can't find a space.
- The Extras:
- In addition to an outdoor patio, Yancy's also offers a private dining room that can be reserved for large groups.
- When to Go:
- For the downtown lunch crowd, Yancy's offers a buffet for $7.99 during weekdays.
AWFUL!

The venue is very nice. But the "niceness" stops there. Honestly I don't know how this place stays in business. I thought I'd be doing a good thing by having my event at Yancy's to throw some business their way (since it's notoriously empty). I regret making that decision. The service was HORRIBLE. Persons in my party received their food an HOUR late with no apology. The manager threw us in a "Private" dining room then proceeded to leave the premises for 2 hours. NO ONE knew how to operate the sound system to get music playing for us. There were several instances where persons ordered things ON THE MENU and were told, "We don't have that," including a request to see the dessert menu which was met with "We're not serving dessert tonight." Where is THAT common for a RESTAURANT? The cover charge at the door was ramped up to $10 in anticipation of my group. I'm not sure why he thought it was acceptable to charge people $10 to enter a RESTAURANT. For $10 per head we should have gotten much better service. Add to the debacle the fact that upon arrival, the management started introducing new terms that we did not discuss prior to the event. The business dealings here are quite shaky. All things considered I would suppose it's a lesson learned for me—get it on paper (and go somewhere else).
Not all it's cracked-up to be

I was very disappointed when a group of us went to Yancys. I was forewarned this place isn't all that, but I still held out hope.
When we got there is was 8:45pm and we were charged a $10 dollar cover, because there was a band playing that night. However, the band wasn't set-up. The band didn't begin their mic check until 9:15 and began their set around 9:30.
When it was time to order, I order a hamburger and the waitress replied "we don't have that". The waitress did check and they did have the burger I wanted. Although the burger tasted good it was more like a slider than a burger.
We didn't stay very long after getting our food, which came pretty quickly. We heard two songs from the band. The lead singer even pulled someone from the audience to sing and that was a wreck...I was sitting there thinking "I paid for this?!". Other than that the band Sweet Dreams was good (what we did see).
I would not recommend this place at all.

I visited Yancy's 2 wks ago on a Thursday night. We paid the expected $5 cover for open mic night as we did back in August on our first visit. Back in August, my friend and I shared an order of crab cakes and a warm seafood dip. It took @ least 30 minutes for the food to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. It was freshly prepared and it only cost us about $10 because the appetizers were half price.
We expected the same good food for a good price at our most recent visit. Our party of 3 decided to order...I wanted the dip, but was told it was no longer on the menu. One friend ordered a seafood pasta and the other asked for the crab cakes. I chose shrimp & fries to replace the dip. The server returned a few min later to say that crab cakes werent available that night because the cook wasnt satisfied / the taste (?). I remarked that " at least its only half price." The server, who was very pleasant the entire time, told me we were too late for that price....thats only 6-8pm. Who is there 6-8 on a Thursday evening? Open mic starts @ 9:30, which actually was after 10 that night.
The food arrived about 15 min later. My fried shrimp were rubbery and warm, the "homestyle" fries were limp and various sizes. The pasta was reported as "tasting funny", but I didnt test it to find out. The friend who ordered it took a few bites and pushed her plate away. Some type of nachos were ordered to replace the crab cakes...my friend said it was good, or maybe she was just hungry. The server eventually removed the shrimp and pasta dishes from our bill due to our obvious dissatisfaction with our food.
1. why would the food be excellent in August, but disgusting 2 months later?
2. why charge $5 cover and still charge full price for food during the time you know the crowd will be there? we paid the $5 for entertainment, not to purchase a full price meal of low quality.
3. I probably will return for the music and drinks, but I WILL NOT EAT THERE AGAIN! Fix the kitchen and put the apps on special again. A restaurant won't survive if customers don't purchase food!
Horrible. So disappointed

OMG... Where shall I begin? My boyfriend and I visited Yancy's on a Friday night. 1st issue was $10 per person cover charge... What? (Jazz Band..So, So --DIRTY JEAN AND A WRINKLED WALMART BUTTON DOWN. ARE YOU SERIOUS) OK, however my boyfriend really wanted to go so we proceeded. The lady waitress...horrible, rude, unprofessional, ect... 2.) She wanted to seat us in front of this large speaker and we very nicely asked her if we could be seated to another table( MANY TABLES AVAILABLE BY THE WAY). TOTALLY ATTITUDE. Why would we want to sit in front of a LOUD 5 ft speaker while having dinner?
3.) FOOD--- OVERPRICED!! AND NOT VERY TASTY AT ALL.
4.)a)-- They were out of different "meat" items at 9:30 on a Friday night. Are you serious. My burger was OVER DONE and DR.
4.) Waitress didn't check on us after the food was delivered to the table nor did she ask if we would like another "DRINK". She gave us our ticket and ran! totally disrespect US when we left her a 20% tip that she totally DIDNOT DESERVE.
I could have overlooked the covercharge, and so, so food if the SERVICE was not so BAD!!! "OUR" people have to do better, if you can read between the lines.
So much more, HOWEVER TO MAKE IT SHORT. WE HAVE VOWED TO NEVER REVISIT THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED!
NEVER EVER AGAIN!
