Finding a good, authentic schnitzel around here is near impossible. J Betski's is your best bet(ski) when it comes to delicious and authentic German faire. They import an amazing, smoky German Dopplebock imported from Bamberg. The food and drinks are priced reasonably and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're really in an old pub in the middle of Frankfurt.

I had dinner there on Tuesday the 30th of October 2012, Ordered the Grouper with mustard seed crust. Outstanding flavor and freshness. I give this dining experience a 5 star rating, everything I tasted was superb, and layers and layers of flavor. Very innovative creations ! I will be back many times to try all seasonal menus. I have a discriminating set of tastebuds , dining in NYC many years. So excited to find this place right here in downtown Raleigh.

Note that the good reviews are old. We also enjoyed Betski's a year ago. Do they have new management or chef? Food at a recent visit was extremely disappointing. Some cabbage/grain side dish was so salty it was inedible. We had to send the pork tenderloin back - the outer 1/2 inch was cooked nicely - the entire center was RAW - not undercooked, but cold to the touch, red, raw. The beef sausage tasted like something out of a supermarket deli. Entrees are mostly simple meat dishes with small unimaginative side dishes yet very expensive. Finally, the service was adequate but the place was so noisy we couldn't hear anyone in our party except those immediately adjacent. Won't be going back there.

Great food with good service. I took my 91 year old father here for dinner for his birthday along with my 5 year old and hubby. We had a wonderful experience. Although there are no kids menus, our waiter, Brad, steered us in the right direction and my daughter ate everything from sausages to perogis to a chicken stew which was really good. My dad and I had the snitzel with salmon and a fried egg which was the special and the hubby had fish. We all loved our meals. The wine list is interesting and a good complement to the interesting beer menu. We had a wonderful experience. Although next time, it may be a nice date night, we appreciated how nice the staff was that we had our daughter who is pretty well behaved and did not want to miss her grandpa's birthday. We made a reservation and were promptly seated. There is ample parking which is a relief compared to some other downtown restaurants surrounded by predatory parking practices. Overall, a wonderful evening. Thank you, J.Betskis's!

Always Great. I visit often because i'm never disappointed. The food, great; Service always exceptional and the setting is just the best. It is small and cozy. They have a creative menu that will work for most everyone. Their small plates are great if you just want a night out but don't want to spend much. I just love it!

Fantastic German Fare; Great Staff!. I have visited J Betski's on 4 separate occasions and each time, the food has been fantastic and the service, exceptional! A small setting with a great bar; interesting wine and beer selections and creative dinner specials make it an culinary adventure each time we go. I love their "small plate" selections as it makes it possible to try more great food without overeating....You can truly tell when owners are dedicated to their business, these people know what they are doing when if comes to german cooking!

Great Food!. Great Food. Everything on menu is incredible. You have to get the pierogies, whatever ones they have on the menu. Wine and beer list is pretty good. Staff was great as well. The place is pretty small, which makes for a cozy evening, so you may just want to call ahead to make sure they have room.

Great food, slowish service. First time I have been there and it was really great. The food was tasty and very fresh. I tried lots of the pub plates and the appetizers in order to try a wide range of flavors...that was the way to go and was plenty of food. We also tried a few of the German beers and asked questions about the beers and the wait staff didn't seem to know too much about it. The service was pretty slow and it took a while to get drinks, bread, apps, and our pub plates. We were there on a week night so it was not super busy. I wish our waiter had been a little more knowledgeable about the menu and quicker, too!

The "Birthday Restaurant" for Everyone in the family. Wonderful German Draft beers and unique wines highlight a small, but amazingly satisfying selection of entrees. Try the homemade Kielbasas!

We have tried almost everything on the menu... you just can't go wrong. We typically go with 4 to 6 adults and share appetizers. The meals are well proportioned yet we seldom have room for dessert.

Our family tradition calls for the birthday person to choose a restaurant. For the four of us every choice has been Betski's for the past 2 years.

Excellent!. I've tried many of the food dishes here and haven't been disappointed. The flavors really stand out! The pierogies are wonderful as well as the kielbasa. I also really liked the duck confit I tried last time I was in. The chef switches up the menu so there is always something new to try. Now they have some small plate options which is great if you want to try several dishes with your friends. Also, the service here is excellent. I have been several times and the staff is always very helpful describing the menu since some of the items are quite unique to me. I take my friends here who are looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere and now that we're getting some warmer days you can eat outside!
