Cary >New York Bagel & Deli
I love this place. This place is delicious. It feels like New York. I guess no ones reviewed it in a while, but its a great place to get bagels and yummy Italian desserts. I make excuses to head out to Cary just to stop by. I'm moving soon to Cary and I am hoping it will be nearby!
DO NOT GO HERE. My co-workers and I have been here several times and every time they manage to mess up our orders. Today we called ahead to place our order over the phone since we had a big order ahead. When we called the lady that answered the phone proceeded to tell us that she was too busy to take our order and we would have to come in. So we did, when arriving they screwed up 2 of our sandwhiches. We ordered 2 reubens and ended up with two plain bagels with cream cheese. Not to mention the salad was very skimpy..sandwhich cheese sliced, turkey/ham lunchmeat shredded..i do NOT recommend this place. They have a very bad attitude
Caryite90 are you that much of a doormat? OMG!. Caught them on a bad day? That's an excuse for treating customers that way and slamming a door in their face? That incident had nothing to do with the fact that they ran out of Taylor Ham. I was there and NO customer should have to witness the owners "verbal assault on his staff". That is no way to run a business! How about you give me a break! If thats an environment you would like to enjoy a meal in then I guess go for it, you deserve it! He was out of line and embarrassing! I dont give a sh*t if he's from NY or not, you respect your customers. Whatever happened to customer service?
OMG eddied01...R U guys that thin-skinned ???. Good Golly Molly eddied01...yous and your wife that thin-skinned or what? Yes, you caught them on a bad day in short supply of your Taylor Ham, but crying about the owner's demeanor? Give me a Break! I've been in several times and have heard that boisterous, verbal assault on his staff...but that's just his character, for Pete's Sake...just enjoy your food and get over it.
read this then decide if you want to go....
My wife, 2 of our children and one of their friends, went to NY Bagel & Deli on Sunday, 5/24/09. This was my 3rd visit. We were returning again because they offer something that we can’t find at very many places in the Triangle: Taylor Ham on a Bagel. We had noticed on previous occasions that our sandwich preparer was not always too sure of how to make the bagel sandwiches but with help from other preparers and watchfulness and input on our part, the Taylor Ham sandwiches were finally prepared correctly.
On this visit, we wanted to place orders for 5 Taylor ham sandwiches on bagels, but they ran out of Taylor Ham after 2 sandwiches were prepared. Alternatively, the kids ordered two pastrami and swiss sandwiches and one rueben, all on rye bread. After receiving the sandwiches, my daughter, who ordered the Rueben, realized that there was no sauerkraut on the sandwich and we mentioned this to the salesgirl who was ringing us up. After discussing the matter, we just decided to just take the rueben w/o sauerkraut and have it charged as just a corn beef and swiss.
At this point, the owner of the business arrived behind the counter, and, I guess, after hearing our comments shouted to his staff “Why isn’t someone watching (name withheld) make sandwiches??!!! She didn’t put sauerkraut on the reuben and used stale bread!!!”. The workers were instantly silent and, in my opinion, had fearful looks on their faces. It made for a tense situation for everyone.
The owner then cut 6 slices of rye bread from a new loaf of rye bread and requested that we take the bread and re-make our sandwiches “unless we enjoyed our sandwiches on stale bread!”. He made no offer to re-make the sandwiches on the fresh bread. We took the bread and my children and their friend, “re-made” their sandwiches with the fresh bread.
After all this upheaval and confusion, we spoke during our meal that the owner’s outburst to his staff in front of us as well as how he handled the error in the preparation of the sandwiches was humiliating and that we would speak to him after our meal.
My wife knocked on the kitchen door and requested to speak to the owner, in private. When he arrived, she told him that she was embarrassed by his outburst behind the counter and how the error in the sandwiches was handled. He responded that he didn’t “yell” at his staff. My wife advised him that from her viewpoint - a customer’s viewpoint - he certainly did yell. He asked what we wanted him to do. My wife said was that all she really wanted was an apology, but based on his attitude, he should give us our money back. He responded that we should give the sandwiches back then. My wife then responded that she was unsure if she would ever patronize this store again, if this was how he planned to operate his business. The owner’s response was “I don’t care – don’t come back!!” and he slammed the kitchen door closed, which banged my wife’s arm and leg. After seeing my wife almost severly hurt by the slammed door, I was angered and banged on the kitchen door. He ran out and harangued us to “leave his store now and never come back!!”
I hope anyone thinking about patronizing this establishment reads this account of our last visit before they make their own decision.
Awsome Breakfast Sandwiches. I LOVE this place! They make the best sausage & egg on a roll! They use authentic flat sausage patties which you can't find down here! Their pastries are awesome! The only downer is that if you get there too late, there's no bread left :(. And, their breads are fantastic!
Great!. This is favorite place to get breakfast. The bagels are always wonderful and fresh, the best around. I have tried all kinds of "sweet treats" from this place and I am never disappointed. The cannoli's are the best. This is a family owned and operated place and they are always so kind. Truly one of my favorite places.
New York Bagels a big disappointment. my husband bought a dozen rye bagels today at my request. we haven't been to the shop in a long time and I was horrified to see that the bagels had been blown up to gargantuan size and the taste has been totally taken out of the product. the rye bagels used to be my favorite but these bear no resemblance to the ones we ate before nor to any bagel I can remember except H&H in NYC who did the same thing and ruined their product. what a shame!
I think these are by far the greatest bagels - and I grew up in NY! They are better than Rockland Bakery! The best Challah bread, the best Italian bread on the weekends and by FAR THE ABSOLUTE BEST bakery treats in the Triangle! The family owned atmosphere cannot be beat! Tommy & Josephine are always there with a smile- and sometimes so are their parents! The meatballs are OUT OF THIS WORLD! Oh, and the ruebens- best around! For a party I always get their subs by the foot- and there is never anything left! Every one of my guest raves about their subs- and ends up a customer of NYBDlll!
The BEST Deli/Bagels and Bakery around!
NY Bagel, it is not. As far as NC bagels are concerned these are OK. I moved here from Brooklyn about 3 months ago and to compare these bagels to NY bagels is a total joke. Believe me, they are nothing like real NY bagels. These so called NYers that are raving about these bagels must be from Long Island where you can't get a decent bagel either, but they think they're good. I'm not sure of their baking process, but to bake authentic bagels you first have to par boil them and then bake them. If they are not making them that way, then it's a totally different animal. Never mind not using NY water, which has a distinctive taste. I knew it immediately, even before I bit into one that they were different. They were about half the weight of a real bagel. They were light and fluffy. NY bagels are a little weighty and dense. Glad to see they have Boars Head products though. I also had a black and white and a few danish, all were very good. Anyway, I thought I finally found a decent bagel shop judging by the reviews but the search will have to continue. Never mind trying to find a good bialy.
