The Very Best – The Gourmet Factory is by far my favorite restaurant in Raleigh...Take that back...it is simply my favorite restaurant, period. I can be found there every Friday night (and I mean every Friday night...without fail) sitting down enjoying the food, atmosphere, and unparralleled service.
The atmosphere at The Gourmet Factory is very quaint and unpretentious. There's a large fireplace in the center of the space when you walk in and a bar area in the back with a couple of tv's. The tables have wax paper over the cloth with crayons for kids (or you...when's the last time you played hangman or tic tac toe?) to draw on. Very relaxed...very nice.
By far the best pizza and wings in Raleigh. They make their own dough, bread, sauce, dips...All with fresh ingredients. The prices are downright reasonable...Especially for what you are getting. I eat a pretty clean diet during the week and wont "splurge" on much...I can tell you that The Gourmet Factory is the only place I would "spend" my splurge meal...
The service at TGF is phenomenal. The manager and waiter, Thomas, will go to any length to make sure you have the best possible experience at his restaurant. You wont find the kind of service that you receive at TGF anywhere else in Raleigh...I gaurantee it.
Given, I am a little bias because I do love this place so much, but I can tell you that if you try it once you will find yourself coming back again and again.
Very Good Hidden Gem – The Gourmet Factory is a hidden gem. You might drive by it if coming from the beltline . . . get in the right lane after the 1st stoplight and drive slow. Look for the umbrellas above the tables on the outside patio. The sign is on the front of the building (due to city codes) and you can't see it when driving on Western from the beltline.
The pizza is upscale (like Mellow Mushroom or better) and top notch. Good Italian food; good sandwiches, and really good fries. The 'hidden gem food' is the kebobs. I usually have Adana kebobs, but chicken, and lamb are also available. These are authentic. That was not Mexican-Spanish they were talking in the kitchen, previous reviewer. It was from a country that borders the Mediterranean Sea (get out your geography book).
You can call ahead so the food is ready when you get there. Nice!
There is a very nice bar with 2 flat screen TVs. Beer on tap, bottled, and wine. I opt for the Blue Moon with an orange slice in a frosted mug. If no one is sitting at the bar or watching TV, then my son (they have a kid's menu) sits there and we change the TV to Nickelodeon (sorry previous reviewer...but that entertains my son). If you have a crew and want a good place to watch 'the game', this is a great spot.
The host is 'hair challenged' (sorry again previous reviewer). Lots of us are. I am too. I hope that doesn't offend you, and if it does then stay home and have the food delivered to you. Request a delivery driver with lots of hair! This guy is the nicest person you could ever meet. Ask for something (eg: change the TV channel) and he'll provide it.
He may have a tattoo. I have not noticed in the many times I've been there. I don't know why that would matter. Lots of people have tattoos.
So go there and have a pizza with some delicious toppings (kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers), kebob, sandwich, or Italian fare and a beer; and relax. Stay as long as you want as they don't make you feel like you need to leave as soon as you finish eating. I've been there many times and never left disapointed.
Check out their online menu before you go if you want to be sure, but they have good food. Try the kebobs.
authentic place with great service – The other day I happened to have dinner at this very authentic place. Mediterranean pizza and salad were so delicious with the best service in Raleigh!
Not good – I was recommended this place by the staff at the hotel I was staying at, so I decided to go in for some pastaFirst off, I missed the entrance and had to turn around wait at the light and try again.I was looking for a sign, but did not see one.It is very easy to miss this place if you are not paying attention.I finally made it and parked out back,It was a dark almost spooky place to park...especially for women I would assume...I must say that I was turned off by the man who had greeted me and sat me down.He looked like a skin head and he had visible tattoos on his neck...But aside from that, he seemed friendly, but somewhat nervous and unsure when I had asked him a few questions about the menu.I decided to get the chicken marsala.Let me tell you that is tasted good, but there was hardly and spaghetti served with it and I felt like it was more like a chicken marsala soup!I was upset that I had spent nearly $20 on a skimpy, misleading meal.To top that off...I had to pay $2.00 more for a tiny little salad with hardly any lettuce and one little cucumber and a tomato. It was rediculous!I wanted some garlic bread to go with my meal, but I did not want to pay the extra $4.50 for it...Every other restaurant that I have gone to has included atleast bread and/or salad...I settled for the complimentary homemade bread...It was bland...and kinda hard..I guess that's why it was free. This was definitely not worth what I spent.During my meal, the music was loud and depressing...It was just a bunch of awful instrumentals that sounded...just AWFUL and UNPLEASANT...I heard some yelling back in the kitchen as well..Not sure what language it was...I don't know what was going on back there, but whatever it was, it didn't sound good.To be quite honest...I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone...I didn't have to wonder much why I was the only one in the restaurant...I WILL NOT be eating here again...
Think twice before you order – I called tonight to place an order. First, the person answering the phone barely spoke English. I asked him what the spinach pie was and he couldn't tell me. He said it was just a spinach pie. I asked what was in it. He asked one of his co-workers and the response I got was, our chef left for the evening and we don't know. I should of taken a cue from that answer and not ordered. I will say that delivery was speedy. I think the spinach pie would of been good if it hadn't been burnt on both sides. Don't think I'll be calling this place again.
TERRIBLE, VERY RUDE!!!! – I was so excited about this restaurant because the menu looked great and it was very close to our house.
The food is good......BUT you have to deal with incredibly rude people that work there. The men that work there act like it is a hassle to take your order and get annoyed by simple questions.
They accidentally charged me twice for food and when I called to tell them (and was very polite) they got angry and hostile and told me it was my problem and to call my bank!!!!! I DID and my bank confirmed they charged me twice and took one of the charges off.
Some of the worst customer service I've experienced!
Versitile, Affordable, and Delicious – My husband and I either get delivery from here or eat at the restaurant once or more per week as we live very close and love their food. I am a vegetarian and I especially like that I have never had a problem with getting specialized orders (i.e. chicken dishes w/o chicken). We bring family and friends whenever they're in town, and everyone, even an especially picky sibling, has loved it!
Overall, this has definitely been the best tasting Italian food for the best value out of all the restaurants we've tried in the area.
great place – we went the gourmet factory 3 days ago and we really liked it. Will go again.
Awful! Terrible, bland food and HIGHLY MISSLEADING webpage – We went to eat here because it was very close to where we live. Honestly, I am not quite sure what anyone means about dinner rush, because the place was deserted. We walk in, and after 3 minutes of waiting around, finally had to call out to see if anyone would answer. Another 2 minutes later or so, someone finally came out to seat us.
The food was bland, and not very good. The alfredo sauce had no flavor, and nothing else seemed to have any seasoning to it what so ever. The fries were about the only good thing.
Don't expect to be able to reference the web site for anything. The hours of operation are WAY off, and the prices are 2-3 dollars more expensive that when you arrive. The entrees state that they come with free salads and garlic bread. When the waiter was asked he shrugged and no. They come with no such thing.
On top of that, given that we were the only people there, the service could have been a bit more attentive. He forgot that I had asked for a side of something extra. Not that I would expect anywhere else to remember, but there were no other patrons at all.
There were also children just sitting up at the bar watching the Disney channel. I love kids, and don't mind them at all, but I feel like the bar is not exactly the place for minors to be sitting.
Prices were ok, for sandwiches etc, but the entrees were a bit over priced, especially with the 3+ dollar gouge from what is being advertised online.
The atmosphere was decent, but the music was darn near depressing. They could be a nice place, but they have LOTS of work to do. We were both sorely disappointed.
What a great place to eat! – I was nothing but impressed with my entire experience at The Gourmet Factory. Good Food that is reasonably priced. I am completely satisfied with this restaurant and will be returning to this place again and again!
