No one but Allison is allowed to touch MY hair

by Marythompkins at Citysearch

I never write reviews. I should because sometimes people are AMAZING and never hear it.

After reading the ridiculous review for my favorite stylist, Allison, I had to speak up.

I have been looking for years for someone to do what I wanted to my hair - three years ago when I walked into Haircolorxperts at Cameron Village - I found that person.

Allison is the only one who will take the time to do exactly what I ask and make sure that I am happy. I have had compliments on my hair since she became my stylist and believe me, with my problem hair, that speaks volumes. She understands my coarse hair and gives me perfect layers and highlights every time.

I even started taking my young son to her because all the kid shops want to give him bowl cuts. She makes him look amazing and he loves how sweet and fun she is!

When I read the last review on Allison, I was appalled at first but then i ended up busting out laughing. Anyone who has been her client would know how strange this review is. There was a mention of drinking? Ha! Last October Allison and I discussed how we both had alcohol allergies and how rare it was. Who is this lady talking about??

Everyone at that shop is wonderful and helpful. When I have my hair done, they make me tea and after my son had his cut - he gets a treat. We both always leave smiling.

Absolutely Awful...Beware of Allison

by SPGirl123 at Citysearch

Let me start by saying I used to like this place, but man has it gone downhill. Before, I would refer my friends, but now I'm begging them (and you!) to stay away from this joke of a salon, especially from a "stylist" named Allison.

I got stuck with her for an appointment, and she seemed nice enough, though being a bit dishelved in personal appearance. After she starts going to work on my hair, though, she talks about how she hasn't been getting much sleep lately and was just out sleeping in her car before coming in to do my hair. Of course, this was very unprofessional and made me wary of her abilities, but I kept my mouth shut (bad move on my part). She was not interested in what I wanted (highlights) and didn't take the time to really study the very curly texture of my hair, which requires special technique when highlighting. Any real stylist would know this.Anyway, we had zero real communication, and I was wary but I let her go ahead and do the damage. During the entire process, she did not give me or, more importantly, my hair, her full attention once. She was too busy talking loudly and rudely (about drinking, etc.) with the other stylists and ordering a huge lunch from a nearby restaurant. She actually paused, my hair in her hands, and read the menu!

My hair came out with very visible roots and not at all what I wanted. So, after going home and getting mad, I booked another appointment. Let me just say that the appointment had to be done at the salon's convenience...not mine. At this second appointment to fix what she'd done, Allison barely said more than two words to me, though she did run her mouth (of course) to other stylists. She didn't even ask me how I wanted my hair styled at the end of the appointment! She just blow dryed it and parted it in a way I wouldn't have. And, worst of all, my roots were still awful. Oh, and they tried to charge me for a blow dry on the way out, which I flat out refused.

I sent an email to the manager telling her all this and even included photos of my hair and the roots, and she did not bother to email me back. She obviously does not care about good customer service or about the horrible, rude way in which her staff acts. It's okay though, because I won't be back, and I'll see to it that none of my friends are either. And, even if that does not make a dent in business, enough people will eventually realize the truth about this joke of a salon.

Junior Stylists not recommended

by CaryMom125 at Citysearch

I visited this salon about a year after moving to the area and was absolutely horrified. I don't know if the stylist is still there, but all I asked for was blonde higlights. Easy right? You'd think, until they turned out brassy. In turn, I got a toner put on, which left gray and purple tones in my hair. I had a coupon, so granted, they probably gave me the newest gal in the place. Not to mention being looked at like a moron for using a coupon. So, haircolorxperts, if you don't like people using them, stop offering them. You should've used that to your advantage to gain a loyal customer who gets her color done every six weeks. I wouldn't recommend this salon, but hopefully they've spruced up their standards a bit. Also, the stylists' boyfriend and kid came in while I was getting my hair done... not a great touch.

Don't Be Afraid of the NEW Brazilian Blowout Treatment

by Barbara Zelter at Citysearch

Here is what I wrote to Kassidy of Cameron Village Hair Color Xperts after I finally dared to try the new generation of Brazilian Blowout to tame my explosive, cowlicky aging hair. I was stunned with how well this second-generation of the Brazilian Blowout (this one using fruit enzymes, not formaldehyde) worked. Do try it. Kassidy does it very well. See my letter to her below:

July 21, 2011

Kassidy,

Yesterday you gave me today a color treatment (#3 of adjustment to fix bad color), and then I asked for the Brazilian treatment to tame my frizz and crazy hair.

Here is a report after coming home and not doing anything with the wet hair but letting it air dry.

Formerly, I could not go out in public with air-dried hair, which was very frizzy, unshapely, and awful, like Bozo the Clown (see 1950’s TV). It would be flat on top, garishly flaring on the sides in odd and a-symmetrical juttings. Not cute. While taming this frizz with dryers and flat irons, I lost my curls and “self.”

My fear had been that if I tried this Brazilian treatment, my usual hair identity would disappear into newly too-straight hair. This fear was unwarranted, as you said it would be. After your treatment, my hair kept its body (as you guaranteed). In the air dry, I still had the usual waves, flips, and bends, but it all did not explode in its usual frizzy post-wet ugly bush. The “personality” remained, while the unruly mess was tamed.

This morning I washed my hair and blow dried it. The result was perfect—plenty of body and a bit of wave, but no frizz or giant triangle shape. It is soft and shiny.

I am impressed that this new Brazilian treatment allows both a reduction of explosive frizz and the maintenance of my unique set of waves, bends, body, and identity. This is very unlike the “straightening” technique of old, which left me with spaghetti noodles—flat straight hair, not me.

Kassidy, you are trustworthy. Thanks for your good guidance. You are very good at what you do!

Finally... The right stylist!

by tpo4 at Citysearch

Well everything I read on here about Sarah Pohl is true. I went to see her yesterday for the first time (on the advice of a friend whose color is gorgeous and on the reviews here) and my cut looks awesome, the color is beautiful, and today I washed it and went. I didn't have to do a thing to it. During my appointment she spent a lot of time with me consulting. She was very pleasant but not overly talkative or intimate. I showed her pictures (Sienna Miller's short pixie btw) and she EXACTLY replicated it. She was QUICK (my last stylist was taking 3 1/2 hours to overprocess my hair). I have run the gamut of stylists having lived in the Apex area for ~15 years (truly have tried every "well-known" salon... Jay Andrews, Env, Liz Michaels, Salon Suzanne Marie, Mitchell's, etc.) and Sarah was worth the drive for me. I am truly AMAZED at how much I like my cut/color. I also found it to be reasonably priced ($140 color/cut) given how much she had to cut and shape and how much damage control she had to do with the color. I liked her personality, too... She's super sweet. Go!
