Issue Balancing Toyota/Lexus Tires.
I really wanted to love this place, they do appear to have a somewhat courteous staff. Unfortunately, I think they are incompetent when it comes to balancing Toyota/Lexus tires. Let me explain...
I purchased 4 new Michelin LTX tires and had them balanced 3 times within the space of 1.5 months at the Wake Forest Discount Tire location. We were never able to get rid of a wheel shake issue we had at high speeds (65-75). The 3rd attempt at a balance was on the road-force machine and that didn't help either. I'll leave out the snide mechanic remarks to me about this. I suspect all the problems I had with discount tire's inability to fix my high speed vibration issue were due to how they mount the rim to the balance machine. I suggest everyone google the difference about HUB-centric vs LUG-centric balancing, especially if you own a Toyota/Lexus since therein lies the problem.
I took my car over to the lexus dealership and asked them to check the balance of my tires. They saw an issue with the current balance and re-balanced my tires again. This totally fixed my issue. Why? Because they LUG-balance the tire as recommended by Toyota/Lexus. I called back discount tire and told them this. They didn't seem to care about WHY this worked. Actually, they didn't even seem to understand the difference between HUB-centric vs LUG-centric balancing. They told me that Toyota's were notorious for having balancing issue. Then they asked me to bring the car in so they can check it out (really?).
Hopefully, Discount Tire can correct this issue which I find to be quite fundamental. Until then? I wouldn't recommend them for Toyota/Lexus vehicles.
The only place for tires.
I originally picked Discount because they were the only local tire place that carried the Falken brand that I have had good results with in the past.
I've bought 5 sets of tires from them, and every time I'm treated well. I had one occasion where a gentelman who worked there (and may have been a manager or owner, I'm not sure) had an associate from another store bring my tires to him at a t-ball game that evening so I could have them the next day.
I've had them replace lugs on my car for free. They have good prices, and offer a free tire replacement if it's damaged. They are always courteous and friendly. You can call ahead to be sure they've got what you want in stock, and can even set up an appointment time so that you aren't stuck waiting for hours on end to have your tires replaced.
I would strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for tires, especially if you may not know as much as others about this kind of thing. I've never had the staff try to sell me on anything that wasn't reasonable, and they are very open to explain any of the charges or fees.
Editorial Review. A multitude of choices in tires and wheels are offered at the country's largest independent tire dealer.
They know their stuff!. The prices at Discount Tire are very competitive with most places. Their online info and ordering is great, and you can schedule an appointment at one of their convenient locations. They treat your car right, using torque wrenches for the final torque, so you don't have to use a breaker bar later or snap a lug. I get the impression that this place was created by someone who had a bad experience at a tire store and wanted better, because they seem to value their customers greatly.
