Complete office staff not too great!. I had problems with getting the staff to call me back. My surgery was scheduled for June 30, 2009 . I did not find out till June 29 that it had been approved . On June 29, 2009 Dr Enochs called me & asked me to be at the hospital at 3:00 p.m. Mine u my appt was not till 7:00 p.m. The pred nurse tried 6 times to get the needle in my arm & hands while i was advising her that I am a hard stick that she needed the get the IV team, they came & could not do it. Dr Enochs came & told them to take me on back. The person that puts u to sleep tried to get the iv in my arm & he had me screaming to the top of my lungs. He finally told a nurse to give me a knock out shot. Dr. Bruce was the dr that was doing the surgery. He came to me before they knocked me out asking me if I still wanted the surgery - that should have been my final straw but I let them do the surgery. I come out of surgery, went to my room, within 2 hours was carried to intensive care for 3 days. I was very sick, mind u I had numerous health issues that is why I was doing the surgery. Once coming back to my private room I was home within 7 days, stayed home 2 days rushed back to hosp stayed for 27 days, at which time the drs told me that I had an ulser to form between the two halves of the stomach. They were not sure if they were going to have to take the other half of the stomach out or not then they found that the ulser was healing with the medications they were giving me.. After this stay of 27 days, I went home for three days back to hosp for 21 days, home for 1 week back to hosp for 29 days at which this time I asked to be xfered to Chapel Hill - Dr Bruce told me that the only place he would transfer me to was Dix Hill - I told Dr Bruce never come in my room again, I got on the phone called his office asking to speak to Dr Enochs nurse Dr Enochs was there to see me that night. I explained everything to him he agreed to take over my case. When I went home on Sept 29, 2009 I was addicted to pain medicine I was in a mess - still could not eat - from Sept 29, 2009 to Sept 2010 I went to the hospital about 6 more times for short st ays where I could not eat and was so dehydratded. September 2010 I went back to Dr Enochs screaming in pain of which I had to wait for 2 hours to seen mind u I had an appt - He immediately put me in the hospital and performed another surgery, had 4 different things done during that surgery. I have since been in pain and he would not do anything else for me. I asked him to have home health theraphy to come in and help me - he would not. On my way back home I stopped at my primary dr's and informed him what had happened. He set up home health and gave me my pain meds. It is now Nov 30, 2010 and I still can't eat - I went from 300 lbs to 134 lbs, lost all my hair, my muscle tissue is gone, having home health theraphy coming in to help me three times a week, also someone to help give me a bath & a nurse that specializes in baratic surgery of which has helped me a great deal. Dr Enochs finally referred me to Chapel Hill, the dr there said that there is nothing that he can do for me thaI I would always be in what they call FUNCTIONAL PAIN. I am bed ridden, my husband does not know how to cook for me and he is also disabled. Would I recommend this surgery -well I was on about 20 medications at the time of surgery and now on about 13 - was taking 8 shots of insulin a day for my diabetices of which I may only take 1 a month now so that is about gone - my opinion is if you have alot of health problems please please think long and hard about it but one day I hope that I can get up and walk without aid - walk in my yard and smell my flowers and walk my dog-things that I love the most. I know that Dr Enochs is a great dr and If I had to have gastric bypass and had never had it he would be the ONLY ONE that I would let do my surgery. Pray Pray Pray before you make the decision and ask God for guidence.
You need to stay on top of the office staff..
I have not had my surgery yet so can not talk about that.
I had my first visit in Aug. I waited for almost an hour to be called back. When I went up to the window to find out how much longer, I happened to notice the sign in clip board and saw that, like 5 or 6 other people were scheduled to see the same doctor at the same time as me.
My visit with Dr Bruce was extremely quick. He came in, asked me what procedure I wanted and that was it. I guess they assume since you have already attended the seminar, they don't need to tell you much. He then sent me to see the girls, as he put it.
I then saw Jamie. She tells you about all the testing you will need. She was very nice but very hyper and seemed scattered brained. I guess they are just really busy and see so, so many people. She gave me my book and told me to get all those things done and then they will submit to insurance for approval. Well I made all my appointments that same day and had all my test completed within two weeks. That was two months ago. I even called at the end of Aug to let them know all my test were complete and ask if someone would call me back. I got no return phone call. That is another problem. You can never reach anyone by phone. You get an automated answering machine and you can leave a message on the main message line and they state, to give them 24 hours to return all calls. They hardly ever return any calls, at least in my experience. In the beginning, when I just wanted to get in for a consult, it took over a week for someone to call me back. That should have been my first sign. Ok now back to my story. Two months have past since all my test were completed. I have heard nothing from them. I finally called again the other day and got a real person. WOW, I was shocked. I think now they have hired a receptionist, who actually answers the phone. Anyway, I asked to speak with Jamie. The recpetionist told me she would have to email Jamie and she would call me back within 24hrs.
Jamie did call back the next day. I told her that it has been two months and I have not heard anything. She pulled my chart and said, "oh, well I don't have a copy of your EKG". So how much longer would my chart have sat there if I had not called. I immediately called the hospital where I had the EKG, ran down there, got the copy and took it to Bariatric Specialist. Do they not stay on top of this stuff????? How come it took two months and for me to call??? I am really not happy. They say now they are going to submit to the insurance. I have my doubts. I am concerned that my chart will continue to sit there for another couple of weeks or more before anything is done. Oh you also pay a $250.00 non refundable fee upfront out of pocket for paper work etc. They say it covers materials for their free seminars etc. Which actually is not free, since we are paying 250. They get your money and forget all about you. We will see what happens next. I will post again. I am going to hang in there with them since I really did like the doctor. He did my endoscopy, and he was wonderful. He came out after the procedure and spoke with me and my husband, he has a great sense of humor and is just extremely nice.
My advice to anyone going to Bariatric Specialist of NC, is to stay on top of everything. Call, Call, and Call, make sure you ask questions and know what is going on with your case. I think they see so many people and don't know who is who or what is what. So stay on top of them. Good luck.

Great Experience!. I recently went to one of Dr. Enoch's informational workshops. He is very warm and caring and answered all of our questions in that group setting. I will definitely choose him for my bariatric surgery.
