Hair extension made feel beautiful again. My hair was really short and was a bad hair cut before I met Karen. I was told by many salons she was the person to get hair extensions from. Karen was awesome. I felt completely at home at the lounge and my hair looks like a new me. She explained in detail everything I needed to do to manage my new hair and I have so much confidence with how she layered the hair. She also helped put some makeup on me that matched my fair skin and I felt amazing. After being sick for such a long time I feel renewed by this makeover. Plus she was soooo kind enough to give me a ride home when my rides phone was not working. This is my new favorite salon and I look forward to my follow up. Thank you Karen
Allright, not exceptional.
I purchased their livingsocial coupon for a highlight and cut. I called almost 2 weeks before to schedule an appointment. When I arrived for my appointment in the morning the had not placed me in the books but they rescheduled me for later that afternoon.
Pros. The atmosphere was nice. They offered me something to drink when I arrived and the stylist came to greet me nicely. The color selection was awesome and the stylist was patient with my uneasiness on changing my hair. The haircut was good as well
Cons. The stylist seemed a bit green as a colorist to me. When I asked for balyage highlights she did not quite understand what I meant.The color faded after 4 washes to an ugly brown color. This was a great disappointment. When I called a week and half after the stylist ask another collegue about why my color faded so fast. They said the color would last about 2 weeks on my hair. I have dyed my hair with red color before and it has lasted way more than that. Aveda color did not work well on my Hispanic hair.
Overall, it was not a terrible experience but it was not exceptional either. The color faded so fast it made me think it was worse than box color. I liked my hair for less than 10 days.
I agree with a previous reviewer. You can get better service at a lower price elsewhere.
I would not recommend. Called Hair and Face Lounge before I bought a coupon to make sure I could get an appointment. I made the appt and was told not to buy the coupon online they would honor it. I took off work for my appt and when I got there they would not honor the price. The coupon was Tuesday, my appt was Thursday I had time to purchase the coupon if needed. They should have honored the price quoted on the phone. I got lucky and found someone to cut my hair before my vacation. I will never go back to the Hair and Face Lounge. I did not feel they were honest.
NOT RECOMMENDED. My hair was extremely damaged by a completely incompetent color service. I asked specifically for someone experienced in the service I wanted and was given the probably least experienced stylist. She destroyed my color and called another stylist to help "fix it" and the results lead me to believe the more experienced stylist wasn't all that competent either. I would not trust anyone here to do my hair again. I should have colored my own hair, I would have done a better job. Perhaps this is why the salon was deserted.
Go to Great Clips, you'll be happier. I visited the Hair and Face Lounge after reviewing their online portfolio that featured some really nice innovative cuts. During my visit I had my hair cut by Karen, the owner. She repeatedly did not listen to what I wanted, and seemed to be in a rush to get me out of the chair so that she could get to her next client (hair extensions). I had to stop her several times from drying my hair, when she thought that it was done, to ask for more length taken off. At one point she replied, "Oh, you really were serious". When getting my hair cut, I generally do not try to mislead the stylist, as I have to live with the haircut. I wanted something a little funky and out of the ordinary; instead I got a very plain, boring haircut. She couldn't even remember that I didn't want my bangs cut straight across, even though I repeated this request several times. There are other, far superior, stylists in the area that charge a lot less. I will defiantly be taking my business elsewhere.

I've gone in a handful of times over the past 18 months for various work: cut, color, style, and your basic touch up by various staff of the Lounge between both locations. The staff has remained steady with a few moving on to other ventures and a couple new smiling faces. The locations have been full of personality; the first place was cute and charming, and a little creepy in a Scooby Doo haunted house way and the new place has a cool retro / funky strip mall thing going on... and being bigger, it definitely has more then enough room for some new talent should they need to expand the staff.
From the time you call or walk in to the time you leave... it is warm and personable, yet highly professional. Tasty beverages are always on hand and are complimentary. The pricing is on par with salon standards... you definitely won't feel robbed (I have yet to get extensions, so I can't speak personally about that - but I feel for you.) This is not an uptight salon by any stretch of the imagination; it is a fun, energetic and a personal favorite place to go in downtown Cary. Conversation is candid and almost any topic can come up and while it certainly isn't church, I have never seen or heard anything that has made me uncomfortable. I have certainly had my "off" days... and while I have never seen it happen, if one of the staff were to have an "off" day; you would not know it because I have never seen a bad haircut leave... if you have any issue with the hair, I am certain they would fix it up with no problem.
Sites like City Search are great for getting out the word on local businesses around town: good and bad. A downside is that it is very easy to defame someone's name with no reprecutions. It is very unfortunate that the few negative reviews below seem to be poorly masked, personal jabs more then anything objective. People are definitely entitled to their opinion, but you should be a good person and be responsible with the power of anonymity the web provides.
In response to you Karen... from Eryn. First of all, I think it's unprofessional of you to call ANY client of yours ignorant. I did not make any scheduling complaints. In fact, YOU suggested for me to come in on a Monday, not me. and I appreciated it. I was unaware of your child needing to be picked up nor did I make any complaint about you using your phone. Actually while I was there, one of your male stylists came in with relationship drama and when you were done with my extensions you TOLD US that you got a text from your stylist having drama and that he's at the bar and you were going to meet him. Also, you did not take 6 hours to do my extensions... and I did not complain about that either. It took you 4 hours and 45 min. I don't think you understand what I was upset about. You told me you would get me that brush to take care of my hair, and you ignored my phone calls and no one called me back after I left a message. About not straightening my hair, I said that I didn't know how that type of thing goes.... then you explained in your response.. don't you think I should have been told that the day of my extensions??? Why am I just learning that now? And I did not want to just change my hair after I got the extensions.. I actually kept them in for 4 months before I got them taken out. You think I'm ignorant, but you are just being defensive because I wasn't completely satisfied. I didn't deny giving you a hug, but I was VERY unhappy about being ignored is all I complained about. I was unhappy at the FOLLOW UP not with the extensions. Giving someone $1500 for their service deserves a returned phone call.
What is wrong with people anymore?. I've been going to this salon since November and am appalled at the immaturity of these previous "reviewers". Its pretty clear to me that these are fake - what's up with the personal attacks on the staff? Just remember, karma is the REAL b*%^$.... As far as the staff goes, I've never been around for foul language, and the fact that the stylsts are talking about their KIDS is a great thing considering that everyone in the place is either a parent or has a parent, you know? You might as well have said that you don't like that they talk about the weather. And the two receptionists that I've met have been awesome - maybe there was a third? Who knows, but one thing is for sure - the hair & face lounge puts out good hair. If the quirky decorations are keeping you away, you're just missing out.
What a terrible shame!. What a horror- this place has nothing to offer remotely close to the Aveda brand; I went to The Lounge for a cut and was greeted by a bunch of foul mouthed women who were more interested in talking about their kids than my haircut. I was terrified by the entire place; from the tacky waiting area, to the back room with plastic astro turf. Honestly, I do not know what the owner was thinking, but it did not involve interest in the salon or staff. What a disappointment. And it's worth mentioning; who ever it is that schedules the appointments needs to go back to school for some lessons in manners - why would anyone who is suppose to be helpful with scheduling an appointment, be such a beast. Do yourself a favor and don't even consider going here.
In Response to Eryn, with an added Update. Hi Eryn! I haven't heard from you about any unhappiness that you may have been experiencing. When I did see you out well after your extensions service was performed, you hugged me, & you & your friends told me how much you loved your extensions. To clarify about the professional application of extensions, they are straightened pre-application & are shaped/blended using professional tools to help create a natural appearance after the application is complete. Styling extensions after the application can cause a premature breakdown of the extension bonds. Once your extensions were applied & the blending was complete, your hair extension application service was also complete. To address the matter of personal slander in your review, your extensions were applied on a day when the salon is closed to fit your bartending schedule. Typically, we don't allow any cellphone use in our salon, but the day we did your extensions was a special circumstance. I opened the salon just to fit your needs & performed the 6+ hr. service graciously on my day off. You were made aware that I had my cell phone beside me in case my child's atypical after school provider needed to get in contact with me. You were also informed that you were my only guest and that I was closing the salon following the completion of your service so I could pick up my child. I was NOT going out drinking instead of picking up my daughter, nor before completing your service . Your review reads as a personal attack - you feel cheated a further relationship did not exist between us after the service was completed... Update: We're happy to have worked things out with Eryn.
