Raleigh >Skin Sense A Day Spa
Save your money - this is not a "spa" experience. I have been here before and to several other spas before and this isn't a spa. It is being *very* poorly managed - looks like economy has hit it hard. Miss matched, cheap and worn out "chairs" in the messy and disorganized waiting room. Table legs in the waiting room were falling off. Biggest seating area were floor level futons that belong in a well used college dorm room - didn't want to sit on those. Chairs, tables, etc weren't even neatly placed and straightened. The "quiet room" was crowded, messy and uncomfortable with very shallow chairs that were not comfortable. No good snacks. Water and their tea were the only highlights. Two of us didn't get anything other than your standard pedicure even though we paid for the more expensive "spa" treatment. My polish was so poorly applied, I am certain it won't last a week and was so sloppy it looks like this was her first time. Did I mention that it was the wrong color? Over $200 for what should have cost half that anywhere else. i would never go there for a massage! Ack! - won't be spending money there again - that's just an obvious, cold hard fact. The people that did the work were very nice - hope they find a new employer.
Amazing Spa. I went in today for an aromatherapy massage and it was heavenly. The atmosphere of Skin Sense is relaxing, the staff is friendly and overall it was a pleasant experience. The facilities are nice- the steam room is such a treat and paired with a cup of their freshly made tea, is a recipe for pure relaxation. I only wish I had the money to come here more often!
Probably the Worst Spa I've Ever Been To....
I wish I could give less than 1 star. My experience has been with Skin Sense of Brier Creek (I've never been to any of the other locations).
My first dealing with this spa was last year when my now husband and I wanted to register with a day spa for our wedding. We chose Skin Sense because they had multiple locations and an online wedding registry.
Their spa wedding registry wasn't working properly, and I let them know via email. At first they were apologetic and said they were working on their site. After a couple of weeks it seemed to work and we registered, sending the link to the spa registry site out to all of our friends and family, co-workers, etc.
The website turned out to be a nightmare and several folks told us they tried to purchase items for us but the site just wouldn't work. I emailed Skin Sense again letting them know how unhappy I was with their spa's website...I got no reply.
My coworkers did go in person to the spa and purchase a gift card for us. We used if for a couples massage at the Skin Sense Brier Creek location in Raleigh. I have to say, it was the worst massage I've ever had. I actually felt rushed!
Nearly a year later, last weekend, I decided I really needed a massage for my sore back, and I was going to give them another try. I showed up, and one girl was working the desk at the time, and she was very slow, and had a line of people, which caused me to be almost 10 minutes late for my massage. Rose, my masseuse, was wonderful, and she gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. I was so happy with the massage that I booked a Shiro Dhara treatment for the next Wednesday while I was checking out (with the same incompetent gal who checked me in).
On Wednesday, I showed up for my 6pm Shiro Dhara appointment. I was so looking forward to it.
When I checked in at the front desk of the spa, the gal was super nice and cool, but she was having trouble finding my appointment. She asked if I had called to make it, and I told her I had actually made the appointment in person last Saturday when I was at the spa for my massage. I immediately tensed because I've never had a smooth appointment at Skin Sense, but I was so sure it couldn't possibly happen a third time, poor naive little me. It did.
The young woman took me aside and was sincerely sorry, and so apologetic. She said she didn't know what happened, but my appointment wasn't in the system, and she wanted to help. She said she could get me in for my Shiro Dhara treatment at 6:30 in the North Raleigh Skin Sense location, which was too far away for me to get there in time.
I explained to her all of my issues with Skin Sense and that this was ridiculous. I thanked her for trying to accommodate me, but I no longer felt like giving Skin Sense my business.
She insisted she would have the director call me and that she was so very, very sorry. I believe her, but Skin Sense doesn't seem to be too concerned about customer complaints, based on my previous experiences with them...of course, I never received that call from the director.
Poor Customer Service. My husband and I had a very bad experience at this Spa today. A gift card of $150 that we had never used, which I purchased in January for a couple massage, had a balance of $0 upon checkout. ??? I am waiting for the owner to call me and resolve this issue before I provide any additional details on just how bad the service was. I have to wonder, based on the experience we had today, how the owner will handle it. What ever happened to real customer service anyway??? With as many spas that there are in the area, the details on how customers are treated do make a difference. Arguing with a manager after a relaxing massage RUINS the experience!!
Very Good Day Spa in the Raleigh-Durham Area. I have been going to Skin Sense for the past few years for all my waxing and facials. The staff is very good, and I trust them to do the waxing and facials right! I have also very much enjoyed a few body treatments and massages--the massage therapist was excellent--but I have only so much money to spend on myself and they are a bit expensive, so I don't really do those often. In general, however, it is the place I go regularly, and as for unwanted product recommendations, I have also found that a simple "no" works fine. And, besides, the BEST skin product I have ever used (Skinceuticals Retexturizing Activator Serum) came from my facialist's recommendation--so they might just be right in their suggestions! In any case, I would give it Five Stars, if it were just a little less expensive!
A Full Feature Spa in a strip mall!.
I had a great massage with Andrea who really took the time to listen and focus on my trouble spots. She did great work and kept the atmosphere relaxing and enjoyable. I took advantage of the sauna, steam room, and all the luxurious shower gels provided. I made sure to use the facilities before and after my massage and it made a world of difference.
The product sales pitch is easy to deflect with a simple "No, thanks." Saying no seems really hard for some of the reviewers here and I bet that translates into all aspects of their lives. Either way, by the time the sales pitch comes you are at the sales counter paying for services so the tranquil mood is already fading.
It's completely gone when you step out into the strip mall that is Brier Creek and get into your car.
wasted money. I must say my 45 min massage was amazing. only for it to be ruined by the fact that my therapist recommended like half the boutique to me. I get to the locker room and the towels looked very dirtly. I decided to air dry after my shower. Then when i get to the check out counter the front dest recommends the other half of the boutique. I feel pressured into buying a 75 dollar bottle of eye cream that has yet to do it's job. I"m so exausted after that experience..... i need another massage..
excellent couples massage. My wife & I had an awesome couples massage. My wife had Nina, and I had Laura. Can't wait for another treatment...Laura's hands were so warm!
not worth the money. I went to skin sense for the first time a few months ago, and the therapist, Mitali, was great. I called to make an appontment with her and was told she is "no longer with us." They wouldnt give me anymore info. (If anyone knows where she has gone, please tell me!) A co-worker suggested I see Renee, so I made an appointment with her. When I got there, I was given a different therapist than the one I was scheduled with, and she must have been the new girl, because the massage was blah, she finished it early, and she did not ask me anything about my muscles, any problems I had or the pressure of her massage. When I complained to the staff, they could care less. I will not be going back.
I just recently moved to the area. Being a big fan of spas, I have gone to many around the country. I tried Skin Sense for the first time when my sister-in-law recommended the spa to me. The moment I walked into Skin Sense, my body relaxed and I felt taken care of by the friendly staff. The ambience was zen and peaceful, and I could have slept for hours in the relaxation lounge. I had a hot stone massage with Jen. About 15 minutes into it, I fell asleep. I can't believe I actually was able to let go....my mind is always racing. At the end Jen gave me tips and stretches on how to carry my relaxation home with me - what a nice touch! I felt like she cared about me taking care of myself and had a plan for me until my next visit.
After my massage, I had a facial with Sahana. She looked at my skin and made some recommendations on the facial that would be best for my skin type and what she was seeing. I liked this personal attention, and I was glowing when I left. I have already scheduled my next spa day and I'm bringing a girlfriend!
